Experience...
Check the seller's references.
And for peace of mind, get the watch checked at the brand's service centre.

Hanz is generally correct. A few years ago I was examining a pre-owned 16800 submariner in Singapore. The weight did not feel right and the bezel felt too flimsy. The seller (many references, appeared to be forthright and honest) told me he had a certificate for the watch. My only response to that was that if the watch could be faked, that piece of paper which he claimed was the certificate could also be faked.

Hahaha...you mean at 11:50pm at an abandoned warehouse on some unnamed road and that you are required to come all alone and not let anybody know where you're heading?
Add: Forgot to mention that you should then bring along an Uzi or some automatic pistols fully loaded.

Hi.I always do the deep research about that watch first before met the seller.
Looks closely the picture of that watch in the official website. Zoom in. Focus on the hand shape, the dial, the date position/color, and the what written on case back on authentic watch.
See some review of that watch.
Fake watches will miss some of the detail of the authentic one.
Once you master the character the watch you lookin' for, You'll spot the difference.

Do it the next day. Perhaps you can arrange to meet at the service center and have the watch checked by the service center. At the end of the day, you need to do your homework when it comes to buying preloved watches. Buy the seller is the normal advise you will hear, but that does not always guarantee that it will be all fine and dandy.
