i think it's good to narrow down your collection at start  Not just brand but also the "type" too... that's part of the fun too to keep you hunting the right one :)

Then, the next question is, quality versus quantity... personally, instead of getting few look-a-like-brand i will save enough to go for the one i really really wanted... this way, you might end up saving more in long run...

another good brand i like will be SINN, like Yen pointed too... reasonable price (compare to other brand la) with good quality and build... b&r is good looking watch but in my opinion a bit too much on their limited collection... too many colors now a day, you can get phantom, green, orange, yellow, blue, white, etc... just too many  :P

Another low profile military watch, Hanhart. Maybe can check this out too ;)

+1 for B&R and panerai since i own one also. But agree with scott about the various limited editions of the B&R. Best to stay with the basic model.

WAH! too many rich collectors here.......all start with Panerai....and all! hahaha!

anyway! yeah! if looking at the trend...an affordable panerai basic one would cost about RM12K-15K, brand new or pre-owned...well! now days..watch prices have gone up the roof......

well! Hanhart is a good idea...very good heritage...good history too..but well! expensive also...woh! if i have already own some watches like Rolex, and panerai...maybe i go for something like those.....

B&R...yeah! nice....the basic one..just to add to the collection...dont really fancy those phantom and all..just i think its a limited edition gimmick.....sorry if i have offended any B&R ltd edn owners...just my 2 cents.

hmmm..sinn is my all time favourite...but not so much their pilot series...i prefer their Diver ...U1....wow! a must have..if i have the money!....

thanks guys! appreciate the suggestions....maybe i should also add diver to my collection..hahahah!

hehehe, well as 4 me i keep 2 a very simple rule fr a online pro watch person

1. work watch - formal n simple yet elegant
2. sport/leisure - sporty/big case/durable
3. evening/special function - highly branded/visible n noticeable/blink-blink
