Hi, dear all, I have the following queries for Omega Planet Ocean 45.5mm with the latest 8500 movements.
Between the PO Stainless Steel (SS) version and its Titanium Liquid Metal (LM) cousin. I would like to know their aesthetical differences and their comfort levels when putted on wrist. I will treat it as a daily beater.
Since I am unable to see a real Titanium LM version. I hope to gain some forumers'(expecially PO owners') opinions.
Thanks and regards.

apparently Ti is a lot lighter compare to SS, plus the shiny dial looks real great ! if you love a solid feel, SS is the go, wasn't really that heavy but standard weight for such a big watch. best if you drop at omega boutique to try out both so that u have a clear picture of it
i myself currently thinking to flip my SS to Ti, Ti is way too poison but way too exp as well :-\
-
What is the price difference between the two?cant seem to find the titanium one in perak
-
I have more love for the SS. SS is shinier new but once there are scuff marks, dings etc on it, it will look battered. On Ti, it will look dated when new but scuffs are harder to see. So a Ti that is well taken care off will look the same 5-10 years down the road even with slight scuffs and hairlines. Same cannot be said for SS. Still I love the shine on SS more.
-
IIRC, the Ti version is about RM5k more.
The PO8500 on SS is one heavy beast, i can definitely see the attraction of Ti for it unlike for the PO2500 which is still bearable in weight in SS.
then again, one can always put the PO8500 on a rubber strap :D
-
Hehe.. Just try to have some fun by adding the polling section. ;)
-
davidtth has the steel and Enkidu has the Ti...
Ask both of them
I'd go for the titanium as I've tried out both at an Omega AD but the price differential is quite huge..
I've always like the grey look of titanium watches..esp for sports watches
-
After getting poisoned by Enkidu's post of his PO LM Ti, I checked out an AD and tried the 45mm and 42mm versions in rubber strap. The 42mm version is extremely comfortable, light yet does not feel insubstantial given its thickness. I really like the 42mm although the 45mm is more rugged. If budget permits, go for Ti over SS - Omega uses grade 5 Ti now.

Thanks davidth, I tried the SS, and agreed that the weight was bearable actually. Kind of fear that the Titanium version will be too light for such a big watch. Therefore might not feel "exclusive" or "expensive" on the wrist. >:(
Looking forward to try both when having the change.

Thanks for pointing that out. Never have a Titanium watch before. But when you mentioned Titanium is dated when new. That puzzled me a bit. As I remember I read from someway that it is quite difficult to differentiate the SS and Titanium PO by just looking at them. Apparently the Titanium finish looks shinny too. But that is waited to be justified.

Don't intend to use the rubber strap as a way to get around making the watch more comfy. I love a watch to be comfy no matter what strap or bracelet I use on it. The kind of strap or bracelet to use should be for aesthetic or functional purposes.

Well, having the chance to put the titanium Tudor Pelagos on my wrist. It looks "humble" and "nice". And even classy at times. But shinny SS PO with matte Ceramic Bezel just look a touch better on my wrist. Probably due to the way I dress.

I find both the SS and Ti versions equally appealing. The 45.5mm Ti version just feels slightly lighter than the 40mm Sub-date. It certainly does not feel feather-light to me. Just get any one of the two, you won't go wrong. The only issue is whether you prefer the 45.5mm or the more modest 42mm.
Here's an old picture. Sorry, I am out of the country right now and I don't have the watch with me at the moment.

The titanium PO is nice.
Its lighter than the steel version.. but the price difference is huge.
It would be up to your preference, whether you prefer a Black or Blue dial.
For me, I prefer the black dial version.
Wearing a steel version, I adjusted the bracelet so that it wears closer to the wrist.
This way the watch doesn't feel so heavy.

All this Liquidmetal talk have got me wondering, does the aesthetic appearance differ much between Liquidmetal and Ceramic bezel?
-
I own the SS version and had a chance to handle the Ti version from the Starhill Boutique. It is definitely much lighter. I do not know if you are comfortable wearing bigger watches but I feel comfortable with my SS version on rubber strap, so I don't intend in getting the titanium version.
-
On the other hand, if it is the PO Chrono, it is no brainer for me. Definitely the titanium one.

Sorry, could have incorporated this into my post just now but anyways, hope this contributes to the minimum post requirements for me to put on sale some of my Omegas.
Hi Thirdman,
Pls check your PM

I have the 45.5mm PO SS version. Yes, it's a heavy watch, but after having it for the past few months I've gotten used to the weight and enjoy wearing it. It feels solid and the weight lends presence (in my mind at least) while wearing it.

Me wondering as well. ???

Not only the weight, the "thickness" of the PO Chrono is a huge deciding factor too.

liquid metal has a ceramic bezel, but not all ceramic bezels have liquid metal ;D
the liquid metal is only filled into the engraved markers and numbers on the bezel.
from what i gather, the liquid metal filled markers serve to make it more scratch resistant.
on non-liquid metal bezels, i have seen some itchy hands who somehow removed a minute marker by over-polishing.

Dear all,
I went to compare these two versions today and found the followings,
1. The Ti versions looks quite shinny. The bezel, dial and even the overall casing and bracelet. You don't feel that it is Titanium unless you hold it up. Amazing.
2. The Ti thus looks more classy. Compared to SS, which looks rugged, with its matte grey bezel.
3. The Ti, although same size as SS, looks a tad smaller on the wrist. Probably due to the darker color bezel and shinier dial.
4. Aesthetically, I don't think Ti has any clear advantages over SS version.
5. Weight wise, Ti is a clear winner.
6. Cost wise, SS is a clear winner. ;)

Steel for me:

I like the look and heft of steel, and I don't need the watch to be any lighter.

I upload the following photos for your viewing pleasure.
SS Planet Ocean vs Ti Planet Ocean on bracelet.
Please note that both watches have plastic wrap around them. The pictures are therefore skewed towards the shinier side. Especially the blue color one. i.e. the Ti Planet Ocean.

Does the Ti version come in black bezel and dial? I always thought the Ti version only comes in blue bezel and dial.

Judgement day : I decided to choose the Ti version because of the followings.
1. It is rarer for being blue in color. Most watches are black. (And I don't have any watch with a blue dial yet.)
2. First impression was the blue bezel and blue dial were too shinny for my liking. But after looking at pictures from the Internet and those posted by forumers, (thanks Endiku, amir1218 and jason_recliner), I was convinced that the real one will appear matte a bit after removal of the plastic wraps. And turned out I was right, there were two layers of them.
3. I was afraid that the weight of the SS version will wear me out eventually. I remembered trying out the Breitling Chronomat 44 a few times, and couldn't pull the trigger because of its weight.
4. The Blue Ti version looks great in blue rubber strap.
5. I was afraid that I will regret if I take the SS version, but I don't think I will regret if I take the Blue one.
Thanks guys.
Here you go.

Nice watch. My initial choice. in a perfect world, I would like to have both.

Well, no, the Ti version only available in blue bezel and dial. Maybe they will make the Ti version in Black bezel and Black dial in the future. Only Omega knows. ??? ;D

great decision ! now i'm getting more itchy, went to boutique self poison again but hack, still a big gap for me to step into Ti
nonetheless, congrats ! wear in good health and wealth

David, I think SS is equally attractive. For the amount of money saved, SS is a fantastic watch. I shall congratulate you for having one too.
P.S. Sometimes, when I looked at my watch, I have a funny feeling that its size and weight doesn't tally.

Congrats, GMTmaster, wear your PO in good health for many years to come!!!
I am sure many of us here will look forward to seeing more pictures of this great watch from you. Don't disappoint us....
-
Endiku, you said "great watch", "no regrets". These words kind of set up my fire in owning this piece. ;)
There is a proverb in Chinese, "sickness is from food entering the mouth, misfortune is from words coming out of the mouth"... Mind your words. :-\ ;)
Whatever, I am happier. :Dancing_banana:

Happy to see the amount of "which watch to get" threads have happy endings.
Wear the piece in good health.
It's an excellent piece.
-
Congratulations! The blue dial and bezel are really nice.

Another happy ending. Congratulation.
Great watch, good choice and wear it in good health.

Well, the color schemes on your SS PO had given me a tough time choosing between SS and Ti.
hanz079, bezelnut, thank you for your well wishes.
All this Liquidmetal talk have got me wondering, does the aesthetic appearance differ much between Liquidmetal and Ceramic bezel?
Liquidmetal or not, only applies to the markings on the bezels., it is hard to tell (maybe impossible to tell), by looking at the markings alone.
But the ceramic bezel definitely looks different aesthetically (besides its colors). The non liquidmetal i.e. grey bezel, is more matte compared to the liquidmetal i.e. blue bezel, which is shinier.

Congrats on purchasing the PO blue , I have one myself.

Congratulations on your new watch.
Looks good.

Sorry for the poor quality images, not much of a photographer.

wow.. nice collection pal... How many Omega you have??? 7? ;D
You must like the design very much. What is the diameter of the Liquidmetal LE? Although it is black, I find the bezel a bit glossy compared to the SS grey bezel. Is it titanium too?

Lol, just two PO and one Seamaster 300M. I love design very much, still wanting the PO Ti in blue strap. The diameter is 42mm on both, haven't got big wrists. Its stainless steel, which I think I might prefer over the titanium. I feel like I have to be more careful in what I do with the titanium version, because of its coating.
