Gosh! I am sorry and would like to apologise to everyone here.

My earlier comments may have been misconstrued with the absence of smiley emoticons and makes me look like a rolex "fanboy" who takes offense to every comment about the brand.

On the contrary, if you scroll back to the earlier pages of the thread, I am in no way defending the brand and abhors the notion that most ppl think the crown is the end all of a "worthy" watch collection.

Wear what you like cause at the end of the day, a watch is just pair of underwear. A cheap Y front does as good as a job as a pair of Calvin boxer briefs. Some ppl like to wear it as it is while others choose to enhance their strength by having it around their face.

Actually, I much prefer boxers than tight underwear. The free and easy feel is unbeatable!

Also wondering what happened to original TS....

I guess owning a Rolex is like owning a BMW or Benz, is common but not everyone has it and yet one must at least owned a BMW or Benz before venturing into Jaguar, Porsche, Ferrari and the list goes on...

As for Grand Seiko, is like Lexus, well built and rival the Germans however people still perceived as a Toyota.

Because it is still called Toyota. GT (Grand Toyota)

I m different from Tyler again
I nvr like Rolex Bcoz of its poor steel, poor bracelet and poor clasp, poor ar...

Till the new n improved Rolex
904L st steel case ( Jos - nothing special, just better salty water resistant than the 316L ) - much more solid than the old soft steel case

Bracelet - solid end link, solid bracelet

Double clasp - super solid bracelet clasp with secure clasp, some model with micro adjustment n diver with solid extension

Ceramic bezel insert - just much better looking n scratch resistant

With the improved all the time already good movement

How can u say no, I do love milgauss Tyler ! LOl

It is definitely not scratch proof and I would say it is more scratch resistant than the old aluminium inserts. The ceramic inserts can even be scratched by the green scotch cloth. Try it if you wish to verify..

Then u must be driving something very unique and dresses like the male version of Gaga  or else you'll just be a plebeian like the rest of the population.

Rolex is the super heavy weight in the watch industry. like it or not it is the undisputable most well-known luxury watch. but like a double sided sword, due to its over-popularity, many watch enthusiast find it "too common" with its mass produced product, and started to opt for other more sophisticated and exclusive "hand made" pieces...

Whether hand made is better than mass production, is another question.

Agree, they are big in many ways. Below is a link to a survey on the most valuable Swiss Brand (in terms of market worth)
http://www.persoenlich.com/news/marketing/bv4-die-20-wertvollsten-schweizer-uhrenmarken-310935#.UonY0MRmhca

JOS2012 previous post in the other thread sums up all the reason why I'm not wearing one. No doubt Rolex does great watches and one can't go wrong in choosing any of the models/range. I just want to reduce the chance of walking into a meeting room wearing a similar watch to the next person.

Tsk, you see, that's where you got it wrong. Watches in many ways are like underwear. You don't openly show it around, but sometimes you get a glimpse of it (chao gong), and you only share your opinions on it with someone close enough or has similar fetish interest. So obviously, one would feel more unique wearing something less common or more exotic (interchangeable with erotic in some cases). On the outside, you should normally blend in just like anyone else...

It's all about context...
man... i love the way you describe watches  :Laughing_on_floor:

May the condor of Rolex fly by and cast thousands of poisonous balls of flame on you who do not defend 'your brand'. Me no go to your gathering liao........ :Laughing_on_floor: :Laughing_on_floor: :Laughing_on_floor:

Found an interesting quote on another forum expressing the status of Rolex in WIS's heart.....it says something like this....

"If the Calatrava Cross of Patek Phillippe is the emblem of the royal, then the Crown of Rolex is the symbol of King to the commoners"

Happy Tuesday everybody  ;D

 :Laughing_on_floor:

I believe it was always touted as scratch resistant and not scratch proof.

ya i never understood the ceramic bezels done by rolex and omega.
afaik, the scratches that occur on them actually are on the coating of the ceramic.
i've seen itchy hands accidentally rub off the numbers on the bezel using a scotch pad before.

contrast that to other brands whos ceramic bezels are pretty much unfinished, like oris, and you can see which one will be more scratch resistant.

Appreciation of history.

904L.

Decent movements.

Charity.

Sponsorships.

Lack of knowledge about other brands.

Lack of imagination and creativity.

Brand more important than product.

Resale is #1 priority.

Status symbol and value retention for most people. For watch connoisseur, Rolex is likely not in the list.

Rolex is ALWAYS in watch connoisseurs' list, especially the vintage..

Try google Paul Newman Daytona in Christie's auction this year... :o :o

I think Rolex did a great thing in providing ppl with brand watch image. The first thing ppl think bout luxury watch, they will have Rolex in their mind. The finishing is good especially those vintage series. I begin to fall in luv with the vintage series oledi

No doubt the advertising is good but finishing is just OK for a mass produced watch.

Rolex watch is built tough, and relatively easy to maintain. but Rolex lose out on complications. Its first "annual calendar" only launched recently named Sky dweller, which come with huge and thick movement. Why not Rolex ?  in my next purchase.
