Title: Baselworld 2018
Post by: D'Andy on March 16, 2018, 04:11:57 PM
So, are we getting a new Datejust, or perhaps a GMT-Master ii stainless steel in Pepsi format with Jubilee bracelet? Only time could tell...

Yea, one more week to go. But don’t think we will get GMT SS model in Pepsi bezel.

Too near to the SD43, that way they can't put a premium on the SD43 so chances of your proposed 42mm Sub Red-liner is lower. They already can't sell enough of the Sub, so why re-invent the wheel? Previous, SD4k was like a nobody's child in terms of sales (yup, could get it with a discount even), and the SDC range only picked up with a premium after SD43 was launched. Having said that, it's high time that Sub gets the 3235 calibre in similar fashion as SD43 had last year.

Asked my AD about the Coke GMT s/s and they informed me that it was quite a real possibility and had started taking names for that piece.

Kind of sure that they will launch submariner or GMT master with jubilee bracelet.

Discont of DEEPSEA and DEEPSEA D-BLUE? What say you?

Discont of DEEPSEA and DEEPSEA D-BLUE? What say you?

Read from another Rolex forum that a collector was informed by his AD that D-Blue would be stopped due to low demand, so there could be some truth there. The GMT Coke is something that many would look forward too, and one of my blog readers said that he had accidentally seen an advert on this at an AD. Pretty sure that they would also update Caliber 3235 into the Sub, although don't think that the red-liner would be incorporated. Oh well, good for another few days of speculation...

Yup, the cake is out of the bag now with the S/S Pepsi GMT, and other pieces. And the original WG Pepsi GMT has gotten a new blue dial and WG GMT hand. And those slimmed down lugs on the DSSD made the piece more wearable and less on steroids now. Me likey!

Well, you do get that new laser-engraved wave dial and newly-redesigned helium control valve in the SM300 *yawn*
Looks like you're right, BM, it is rather yawn-worthy!

Better than what Omega have revealed, but it's not stirring any excitement in me.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180321/f2df4aa81852185be39c03961e573e9f.jpg)

Well it's sort of a heritage piece. Look at those Rolex GMTs from the 50s and 60s and you'll see where they were heading with the design cues. Sans crown guard, etc.

8800 CHF puts the Pepsi at about the same retail price as Hulk, meaning we can expect same premium prices at about RM45-48k ... maybe ?

Considering previous Pepsi references depending on vintage, are hovering averagely in the mid-30k, I guess this is a good sign for collectors.

Ya I think so too, maybe to also give further extend the Tudor stable.  If they had launched this design under the Rolex badge, God knows how that would affect prices of the original GMT ref. 6542 which has now become super rare & expensive.

Hmmm..... Looking at the Tudor GMT carefully I'd say Tudor would have got me at Hello if they had implemented the Gilt dial instead of the white markers. Liking it a little less now.

A bit underwhelmed by this Baselworld!

I expected something on the Explorer series. Even the Subs keep their old 3135 movement.

I quite like the Tudor Pepsi.  And a lot of the other releases.

Notables to me, other than the Pepsi/Diet Pepsi:

- the blue GO, as well as their skeleton perpetual
- the Omega 70th anniversary collection
- the steel Bulgari Octo

One of the best Baselworlds in recent times, IMO.

You're kidding right? The new SM300m alone is worth it imo. It's just an improvement in every way! Master Coaxial movement, display case back, luminated bezel, ceramic wave dial (FUCKING FINALLY ITS BACK) and a redesigned helium valve (pointless but cool).

Can't wait to see it in the flesh this coming July.

Well one man's yawn is another man's lawn I suppose. The 300 didn't work for me when Pierce Brosnan wore it and doesn't work for me now. I do love the 2500 Planet Ocean though. I would be ecstatic if Omega could somehow make their coaxial movements slimmer but hey, what do I know. Glad it floats your submersible. To each his own and a toast to diversity! Cheers buddy!

Rolex should have a sky dweller in 39 or 40mm.  It's current size in my opinion is too large unless you have large wrists.
