Hi all,
I've been looking for a Rolex Explorer 2 (40mm) and finally found one I'm happy with. Problem is, I also found a JLC Master Geographic, and a Zenith El Primero 1969 for sale (all preowned). I love all of them and they're all going for about the same price.
Which would you pick if you could only buy one? I know its all about what *i* want, but I'm just fishing for some thoughts.
I already have a few chronos, one of which is the speedmaster (my daily right now), but the zenith is a little dressier and its the one that fits my wrist the best out of all the three options.
-
Over these three, I will personally pick the Explorer II.

Rolex Exp 2 for me since the demand for 40mm is getting higher. Perhaps you should ask yourself if this will be your first/only watch?
-
Appreciate the thoughts. Thank you!
Maverickcw, no this purchase isn't my first/only watch. As previously mentioned, I have several chronos including my daily beater moonwatch.

Interesting. Why Jaeger, saprozeldo?

Pics of the JLC and Zenith would help...but i’d do the JLC as well. Its a premium brand no doubt..and maybe i’m wrong but there are less JLCs out there? So you can be a bit different..

From ur stmt, my assumption is that u dont want something stereotypical in a rolex, so u're really toying between zenith and jaeger..
To me, jaeger packs the most value for money for a preloved unit.. brand & feature wise, i rate it higher above zenith.. history wise, movement wise, its at par..
Also dressier and a watch for special occassion compared to zenith..
Just my 2cents uneducated opinion

Such a shame that the sub-dials overlap each other as otherwise the dial is superb.

1. Explorer
2. JLC
Follow by Zenith..

As much as I love all these watches for their pedigree, history etc...I would vote Explorer. Not because it’s a Rolex, but because I’m a simple man. I have simple tastes and I love watches with simple dials. The JLC and Zenith, as sexy and gorgeous and as wonderful as they are, have dials that are just a little too busy for my simple liking.
-
The explorer 2 in my opinion is the more versatile watch. With its Steel Bracelet there probably isn't much it can't handle. I've had mine for over 20 years now, and I've used it while playing tennis, golf, swimming, hiking, etc and its never had a problem.
I've also worn it with a suit and formal functions. I doubt the JLC and Zenith will be as durable and versatile.
So get the explorer 2 if its going to be your only watch. Get the other 2 if you already have a collection (maybe you have another Rolex like a Sub?-then you don't need 2 rolexes).

Good advice  . My thoughts too.

Jaeger make beautiful time pieces with great movements , some patek makers weat jaeger watches, that i read from some article a while ago,
Rolex is a good tool watch , kuat , reliable and solid.
Zenith , is slightly behind both of them.
-
Judging by your post, I would say, go for the Explorer, even though Im not a fan of the watch.
Personally, I prefer the other two,JLC is a great dress watch, and the tri color Zenith is another superb watch. Both are on my 'hit list'. But when it comes to watches, the heart wants what the heart wants. Its not about price, movement etc.
Since youve always wanted an Explorer, go for it. Chances are you wont regret it.

Personally prefer jlc

Rolex explorer 2
-
1. Zenith El Primero 1969 - a real classic sexy beast
2. Rolex Explorer 2 - a recognizable sturdy daily beater

Thanks very much to everyone for the very valuable insight and thoughts. I finally settled with this beauty. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180314/bf6d6ca995e0b31d31825763a3e7b9fd.jpg)

I have variants of all 3 (42mm Explorer 2, current Master Geo and 42mm tricolor). I'd pick the JLC or the Rolex first - depends on whether you want something dressier or more rugged.

rolex is always my first chocie.
good 2nd hand value too
