WTA Explorer 1 39mm

Is Explorer 1, 39mm a hot item? Is it hard to get ? How much premium is the market norm?

It is ok. Not the hottest model around. Premium also not too high seeing as they don't really move quick in the grey market. Buy it only if you love it.

Got an offer at RRP but unworn 2 years old watch. Dunno if it’s a good buy or not.. not really a big fan to explorer but it’s a Low entry for me

Just don’t want to be slaughtered. As long as it’s a fair price will do.

Looks like you are paying RRP for a 2 year old watch. I dont put much stock in the "unworn" status of the watch. Is it a good buy? Honestly, I would not buy it myself.

Buy a watch only if you really like it, not because it's a good price.

But the way prices of ROLEX sports models are going on the grey/used market, any ROLEX won't "lose" money. See how the grey dealers are pushing the prices of the Air-King now to over RM30k, more than 6k above RRP.

The Explorer 1 is not a bad watch, nice 39mm size, easy to wear, no date so just wind up, set the time and ready to go. No fiddling with the date if you've left it too long.

If it's new or like new and you are happy with current RRP, why not? A 2 year old watch means it should have the 5 year warranty, with 3 years or so left. Plenty of time to fix anything wrong with the watch unless someone has tampered with it.

Absolutely right, buy something u like and not because its cheap. But you must also decide whether its for investment or own wear or both.. most likely it will fall in the 'both' level..

which is buy something u like and cheap... haha... my two cents

The other posters in this thread are spot on correct (as they usually are...) -- don't get the watch unless you love it 100%. Right now the market is weird and lots of models are strangely overpriced. (Perhaps you may want to wait till February/March 2021 when the economy finally collapses to get a better deal).

I bought a 39mm Mark 2 Explorer 1 early July for 26.5k from a reputable grey market dealer. The model was from Feb 2020 and complete set and had already seen a few owners. I had been monitoring prices for a while and I got it within hours of the advertisement's publishing. Prices have increased substantially more since then. I think at the current level the prices are especially retarded.

I really like the watch. The lumed digits are cool. I wore it for a while and then passed it to my wife who prefers sporty watches. I prefer sports watches over datejusts because of the legibility. Anyway, I never sell watches and so I'm keeping it for life.

Personally, I doubt prices of desirable watches will drastically drop “when the economy finally collapses” because buyers for these aren’t really affected by the economy. You don’t buy watches on a 0% easy installment plan. Or do you?

You will see price corrections on some models but it’s not likely going to crash. Everyone was hoping the riots in HK and COVID pandemic would drive down prices but it’s not happening.

From what I’ve heard, stock deliveries from ROLEX are actually dropping...

'don't get the watch unless you love it 100%'

It's a bit hard to get unless willing to pay premium. With this constant no stock or waiting list, how can a newbie like us will be able to get the watch that we love 100%?
My cousin aimed DJ black dial fluted bezel. End up bought a smooth dial coz after months of waiting, finally a call from AD and this is the only available watch. Take it or continue to wait.
Not to mention those wanted a submariner...

explorer 1 not my first choice.. i will just pass  :)

Has the warranty been activated? Will you get full 5 years warranty or will you be left with 3 years?

Don't mind me asking but what's the retail price for a 39mm explorer 1 now?

buy if you like it, skip if not your choice. Would suggest spent a little more for something you like, more worthwhile

I'd say this watch is a good daily driver. Not too expensive. Easy to care. So if you have the cash to spare why not.

It is a classic for sure. I was tempted between this and the Explorer 2 but went with the Explorer 2 instead for the date and GMT functions. Not much premium if bought used so I would not classify it as a hot item.

Follow your heart, dont look at those forum comments of what to buy, why not buy that.
They dont have to pay a penny to leave a comment, its not their money. They said whatever they want to say~lol

A watch is for yourself, you will look at it as much as you did. ;) ;)
