My watch collection
« on: February 23, 2011, 05:36:07 PM »
As I am coming to the end of my watch collecting, I decided to post my entire collection here. I hope you guys don't mind (at the same time I am trying to improve my watch photography). I will try to post a couple a day, based by brand or theme or collection. I don't think the collection will change much, changes being additions or subtractions via my current streamlining process. Please note that I will only post the photographs and what the watches are. Also the watches may not be fitted with the original straps or bracelets or may even just be the head only. Hope you guys enjoy watching them as I am posting them.

I will start with the following:

Panerai: from left to right, PAM183J, PAM00111H AND PAM00003B.

There's only 3.... no, 4 reasons why someone will stop collecting watches.

1. There's nothing out there that excites you any more. Everyone's churning out the same old same old. Seen that design, already own that design.
2. New hobby. Photography, collecting foam cups, rediscovered the love of collecting stamps, etc.
3. Retirement. Prefer to make use of the retirement fund by sitting on a beach on an exotic island sipping rum.

;D

Looking forward to more photos!

I'm a 70% recovered watchaholic.

Having said that;
a) I'm also coming to an end of watch collections, now left having 2 sport rollies, a tool watch, a dress watch and a beater watch for preservation purposes.
b) Discover a new hobby in cycling
c) Near retirement age (unless the company extends my services). Invest 3/4 retirement fund for return investment for daily 'kueh' expenses.
d) Use 1/16 fund for one last fling on one holiest grail.
e) Use 1/8 fund for stand-by emergency expenses.
f) Use 1/16 fund for extra pocket expenses

After official retirement age, if company still needs my services - fine.
If not, look for jobs that pays 2 square meals a day would be sufficient. Crumbs that left over from the 2 square meal will end up looking for the balance 30% unrecovered watchaholic.  :Laughing_on_floor:

No reason for me to stop collecting. Just that I think I have what I want in watches. I am sure there will be additions but it will be something that I really want. Anyway the Canadian connection....

The Orsa boys. No model numbers but inspired by military watches from the 60s and 70s. Cheap and great value.

The Marathon boys. From left to right, Marathon Composite Navigator, Maratac Pilot Automatic, Marathon SAR (Search and Rescue) May 2005 contract and ADANAC Navigator II (ADANAC being CANADA backwards).

Thank you for the kind words. Next up is my homage watches. These watches were assembled by me using parts sourced from the Internet. Some came from Germany, some from the US and some from Hong Kong. All are powered by original Swiss ETA movements. These watches have been timed and water resistant tested to 6 ATM. I am considering selling these watches but will see how things goes.

From left to right, homage to the Italian military watch from 1936, a mix of submariner and snowflake homage and finally my left-handed homage to the watches issued to the German military B-uhr.

ck77,

Lots more parts not shown in the photograph. No, no more projects.

Panerai1950,

I don't think I will be selling my Panerai at the moment. Anyway the PAM00111 is available new at AD.

On with the show.

My only Citizen. The Citizen Oxy Military Camo reference NH 7350.

takashi78,

Sure. The Benrus Type 1 reissue watch, reference Benrus BR763 Type 1 watch is a reissue of the Benrus Type 1 Class A watch. A bit of history. The Benrus Type 1 Class A dive watch was issued to members of the UDT-SEAL, Green Berets and Special Forces towards the end of the Vietnam conflict. These watches were very durable and some consider it to be the ultimate military dive watch, hence the Class A nomenclature.

You can read more about the original here:

http://www.50717.com/us/benrus-1-76.html

Back to the reissued watch. The watch is currently available only in Japan and from my understanding stock is very limited. It is selling for unbelievable prices on the bay. It is made in Hong Kong. It comes with a mil type black strap. There is a Type II reissue as well but I understand it was sold off in just a couple of hours (collaboration with a Japanese fashion house, Beams if not mistaken). I was told (but not confirmed) that the Benrus name has been sold to a Japanese firm.

The differences between this watch and the original are as follows:

1. Quartz movement (Ronda 513) in the reissue and mechanical on the original (perhaps a modification is due....)
2. The Benrus signature on the dial on the reissued watch. The original is sterile.
3. The choice of luminous material on the hands of the reissued watch, being the Tritium tubes as opposed to applied on the original.
4. The case back can be opened on the reissued unlike the original where access is from the front (although the original was a 2 piece case design).
5. Fixed bars on the original and spring bars on the reissue.
6. Water resistance rating with the original tested to 1,200 feet while the reissue rated to 10 ATM.
7. The original is anti-magnetic, the reissued is not.
8. Military markings on the original and none on the reissue.

More pictures.

The case back.

It is a nice watch and maybe one day I will an original Type 1.

A Roskopf 1896 Geneva Switzerland Expo Pocket watch. Not too sure if this is original or not. Still running. The chain is not original.
