Below is my short review + sale post for Panerai 992.
This is my most feature-packed Panerai to date and it is with a heavy heart that I have to let it go in order to squeeze some extra funds for crypto investment. This is the Panerai PAM 992. V series, dated early 2020. The true-to-size 45mm case with wire lugs is what made it very wearable despite the size. As you can see from the attached pictures, the strap does pull down from the lugs and lug-to-lug length is only 45mm.
Before stating out with the specification details, It is a worthy mention that this is a BOUTIQUE EXCLUSIVE model with LIMITED PRODUCTION (Not limited edition) and is not available via ADs. The is the one of two models in the entire Panerai catalogue featuring the “patina” case. While normal Panerai cases only went thru one polishing step, this triples the work done by firstly polishing the case as usual, then micro sandblast the case, and then finishing off with another round of polish. The result is the semi-matted finishing you see here. It still has the sheen and shine of a smooth polished case, but will be able to hide scratches very well. It is worth mentioning that the pin buckle is also done with the same finish.
On the dial one cannot miss the 8 GIORNI BREVETTATO at the 3oclock position which translates into 8-DAYS-PATENTED in English. The presence of this logo balanced up the dial nicely with the sub-second dial at 9oclock. The hour, min, and sec hands of the watch is heated Blued, which means firing up the temperature on the hands and stop the process on a pin point temperature to create this mesmerizing blue color. Be ready to indulge yourself playing with the reflection of light.
It is needless to say that a premium Panerai like this comes with their Signature Sandwich Dial construction, which they are reserving only for their mid to high tier watches nowadays. The crystal is made of sapphire and the domed sapphire crystal here adds a touch of layer effect to the watch. As for the movement encased within a sapphire case back, it is the updated P5000 movement. This is the first watch that feature the updated P5000 movement, which adds hacking seconds function, and increased accuracy compared to the previous P5000 movement. As you already know, 8 GIORNI BREVETTATO means 8 days of power reserve on this movement.
