As I am coming to the end of my watch collecting, I decided to post my entire collection here. I hope you guys don't mind (at the same time I am trying to improve my watch photography). I will try to post a couple a day, based by brand or theme or collection. I don't think the collection will change much, changes being additions or subtractions via my current streamlining process. Please note that I will only post the photographs and what the watches are. Also the watches may not be fitted with the original straps or bracelets or may even just be the head only. Hope you guys enjoy watching them as I am posting them.
I will start with the following:
Panerai: from left to right, PAM183J, PAM00111H AND PAM00003B.

"The end"?
You gonna stop watch collecting?
Say it aint so !
-
C'mon... we all know that there is no cure for what we have here.
Well, see you in awhile... U know you'll be back...
-
Pardon me? You are saying you stop collecting PAM anymore, but not others, right? ;D
We are know how extensive your collection is
Come on, keep them coming! :Dancing_banana:
-
Bravo...You mean you have attained 100% cure of the diseases?...serious? The end?

There's only 3.... no, 4 reasons why someone will stop collecting watches.
1. There's nothing out there that excites you any more. Everyone's churning out the same old same old. Seen that design, already own that design.
2. New hobby. Photography, collecting foam cups, rediscovered the love of collecting stamps, etc.
3. Retirement. Prefer to make use of the retirement fund by sitting on a beach on an exotic island sipping rum.
;D
Looking forward to more photos!

I'm a 70% recovered watchaholic.
Having said that;
a) I'm also coming to an end of watch collections, now left having 2 sport rollies, a tool watch, a dress watch and a beater watch for preservation purposes.
b) Discover a new hobby in cycling
c) Near retirement age (unless the company extends my services). Invest 3/4 retirement fund for return investment for daily 'kueh' expenses.
d) Use 1/16 fund for one last fling on one holiest grail.
e) Use 1/8 fund for stand-by emergency expenses.
f) Use 1/16 fund for extra pocket expenses
After official retirement age, if company still needs my services - fine.
If not, look for jobs that pays 2 square meals a day would be sufficient. Crumbs that left over from the 2 square meal will end up looking for the balance 30% unrecovered watchaholic. :Laughing_on_floor:

No reason for me to stop collecting. Just that I think I have what I want in watches. I am sure there will be additions but it will be something that I really want. Anyway the Canadian connection....
The Orsa boys. No model numbers but inspired by military watches from the 60s and 70s. Cheap and great value.

Thank you for the kind words. Next up is my homage watches. These watches were assembled by me using parts sourced from the Internet. Some came from Germany, some from the US and some from Hong Kong. All are powered by original Swiss ETA movements. These watches have been timed and water resistant tested to 6 ATM. I am considering selling these watches but will see how things goes.
From left to right, homage to the Italian military watch from 1936, a mix of submariner and snowflake homage and finally my left-handed homage to the watches issued to the German military B-uhr.

Still have lot of movements, cases and parts.
Any projects in mind?
-
Well, if you ever want to reduce your PAM collection, do drop me a PM. I am building up my PAM collection and now looking for a historical PAM111 :-)
-
ck77,
Lots more parts not shown in the photograph. No, no more projects.
Panerai1950,
I don't think I will be selling my Panerai at the moment. Anyway the PAM00111 is available new at AD.
On with the show.
My only Citizen. The Citizen Oxy Military Camo reference NH 7350.

Benrus Type 1 Class A reissue.
-
Curious bout the Benrus, more pics pls? hehe
Tell us more bout this watch.
-
takashi78,
Sure. The Benrus Type 1 reissue watch, reference Benrus BR763 Type 1 watch is a reissue of the Benrus Type 1 Class A watch. A bit of history. The Benrus Type 1 Class A dive watch was issued to members of the UDT-SEAL, Green Berets and Special Forces towards the end of the Vietnam conflict. These watches were very durable and some consider it to be the ultimate military dive watch, hence the Class A nomenclature.
You can read more about the original here:
http://www.50717.com/us/benrus-1-76.html
Back to the reissued watch. The watch is currently available only in Japan and from my understanding stock is very limited. It is selling for unbelievable prices on the bay. It is made in Hong Kong. It comes with a mil type black strap. There is a Type II reissue as well but I understand it was sold off in just a couple of hours (collaboration with a Japanese fashion house, Beams if not mistaken). I was told (but not confirmed) that the Benrus name has been sold to a Japanese firm.
The differences between this watch and the original are as follows:
1. Quartz movement (Ronda 513) in the reissue and mechanical on the original (perhaps a modification is due....)
2. The Benrus signature on the dial on the reissued watch. The original is sterile.
3. The choice of luminous material on the hands of the reissued watch, being the Tritium tubes as opposed to applied on the original.
4. The case back can be opened on the reissued unlike the original where access is from the front (although the original was a 2 piece case design).
5. Fixed bars on the original and spring bars on the reissue.
6. Water resistance rating with the original tested to 1,200 feet while the reissue rated to 10 ATM.
7. The original is anti-magnetic, the reissued is not.
8. Military markings on the original and none on the reissue.
More pictures.

The Tutima boys. On the left: Tutima Military NATO Chronograph TL reference 750-02. On the right: Tutima Field Chronograph reference 768-01. I am not sure of the 768-01 is really called the Field Chronograph. I got this information from a Japanese website. This watch is very rare (nice word for unpopular?) but I like it has it has the same centrally mounted chronograph second and minute layout as the Lemania 5100.

Wow looks like you collect mil spec/type watches eh.
So what attracts you to those models?
-
Not really collecting mil spec watches but just collecting what catches the eye. Somehow it seems to gyrate towards military type watches. It is the simple dial, ease of reading the time and the fact that they are tool watches, made to be used.

takashi78,
Sadly Stocker & Yale is no more. However their designs lives on in the military watches under the Traser and Luminox brands. As for the 184A, it does appear time to time on the bay, but I cannot guarantee the watches sold there are all original. The other choice is to visit the sales forum of military watch forums. They go from between USD 50 to 150 condition dependent.

Two of my favourite Casio. They are not G-Shocks. These watches are a part of a three watch series under the MD-703 200 M Water Resistant Series. On the left, MD-703S-7AV and right, MD-703-1AV.

Hi mpower,

My Casio G-Shock DW-6600 watches. This is a very popular series with the military as it has one of the largest LCD display among the G-Shocks. From left to right; DW-6600C-1VZCI (has the 'G' in the backlight), DW-6600-1VZ and DW-6600B-1A (the original from years ago).

The rubber that is falling apart, best of all never even use the watch. Only started to use when the rubber started to fall off. Give me a Casio anytime. TAG solution is to change the case but no guarantee it won't happen again.

My Longines Reissue twin, the Legend Diver and the controversial W.W.W.
how controversial?
-
How is it controversial?
-
The watch had a difficult birth, coming in hot at the heels of the successful Legend Diver. After its first unveiling at Basel 2010, the watch received many negative comments. In fact some opinions on the watch were very strong, even with some suggesting they write in to Longines. The watch it based on the original Longines WWW, which itself is prone to controversy. The original is also known as the 'Greenlander' but questions have been raised if it did go to Greenland as part of the equipment of the British team to Greenland.
Anyway, after the first comments came in, Longines 'pulled' the watch from its website, but put it up again much later. Comments against the watch include the addition of the date complication, the 'small' sub-second dial, the small crown, the short hands and the list goes on. Additionally for the asking price, one could get the original (but not anymore). Many were against the use of the 'broad arrow' on the dial.
There was also the rumour that Longines used photographs of the original in its promotional brochure without giving credit to the owner of the watch or that the photographs were 'borrowed' from the owner.
It is currently rumoured that the production of the watch has slowed down to a trickle, but that remains a rumour.
-
So is the WWW still in production now?
-
Don't really know. Just like the Legend Diver, where the rumour says the non date version is no more and the current production (date version) is limited to about 100 pieces a month. Of course these could be marketing gimmick to help sell the watches.
However with the www, according to my watchguy, it is harder and harder to get the watch. Don't really know the situation.I do know the watch is popular in Japan. So maybe more stock is routed there as comPared to other countries. I do know that stock is wanting in Japan. What is the situation in Malaysia?
Also it is important to note that while the watch is under the Heritage collection, it does not come with the big nice box like the Legend Diver. Another point of contention against Longines by collectors.
As for me, I like the watch when it was announced and still like the watch.
-
More military love.
Mechanical G10 watches. CWC W10 (1979) and Hamilton Geneve 6bb (1974 RAF). Missing the Hamilton version.

Ya I do hear some rumours saying the LLD is limited production. The list price here is RM6,900
But I didn't see the www available here. How much is the list price in TW?
-

The list price seems to differ from time to time. Don't know why. The version with the leather strap use to be cheaper at NTD 40,500 while the version with the croco strap was NTD 44,500. But now, it looks like both versions are NTD 44,500.

I see it at the airport when i was at Taipei.
Also saw it in US.
Msia havent check yet.

Yeah The Longines Boutique has one as well.
On with my watch collection. Almost missed this one. My 'cheapest' watch. ;D

Yes it is. Basically the popular ones are the Dirty Dozen, they are commonly know as the W.W.W. watches. The top 3, Omega, IWC and Longines are the more well known as the Omega WWW, IWC Mk X and Longines Greenlander (don't really like to call it that).

I thought MilSub 5517 was also very well known for British soldiers then?
-
I thought MilSub 5517 was also very well known for British soldiers then?
True, the Milsub 5517 is well known as it was issued to the Royal Navy in the 70s. I thought you question was on WW2?
Anyway popular military Rolex includes the reference 5513 with the Mercedes hands or sword hands. Some came with the 60 minute bezel insert while others came with the standard 15 minute bezel. Both came with the 'T' on the dial. The reference 5517 were issued with 60 minute bezel and sword hands. They (5517) were normally double referenced 5513/5517. I am trying to get a 5517 homage built but we will have to see how things go...
If you are looking at British issued military watches in general, the list gets longer with CWC, Hamilton (and Hamilton Geneve) and Precista added to the list. Opps forgot Seiko and Pulsar.
-
Oops .. my bad ... during WW2 Submariner was not even born yet :HammerHead:
How you find Orange Watch Milsub?

Orange Watch? I know Dan but I have not seen his products. I know he is (currently) facing some heath issues and hope he recovers soon. He is a nice guy. I know that you can get a built Milsub from Bill of MKII (not into the HRV), but I want to assemble one myself. Will have to see how things go.
I even thought of getting a beater 14060 and have the hands and bezel insert changed out. That is another path and an interesting one as if the watch needs a service, it is not difficult to have the parts swapped over.
Anyway I am trying to learn more and trying to understand the difference between reference 5513 and 14060 and 14060M (all the 2 line version, pre-COSC). I have a line into all three and am still out on which one to get (if I get it at all). If I do get the 5513, the 5517 project may be on the back burner. Same may apply if I get the early batch 14060 (with the T<25 dial).

My Cyma Cymaflex watch from the 60s. It is in need of some TLC. I will be sending it in for a service and what ever else my friendly neighbourhood watch guy can do to it.

Very lucky to get this one as the dealer was going out of business and sold it at cost. The Limited Edition Glycine Incursore Black Jack Automatic Small Second. I do like the red small second and the number 21.

Not sure if this was asked earlier but how long did it take you to reach where you are now with your collection? How many years ago? And pushing my luck here, how did it start? Was there a watch that started it all? ;D

I have been 'collecting' for about 20 + years, but only going a bit serious in the past 3 to 4 years after I 'retired' (still young at 43). It was a slow process, buying a watch a year, sometimes 2. So it is an on-going process. At the same time learning about watches, what makes them tick, meeting people within the industry and outside the industry. At the moment, I am at the end of my watch collecting life-cycle, having too many pieces and only two wrist to use them. Also I have most of what I want, and the brands that I want. Some of the watches that I have were bought on a fancy and some are really old, having bought them a long time ago and never selling them off.
My Casio and military collection is pretty new, but I have stop as I realised I have way too many Casio G-Shocks. As for the military timepieces, you really need to know what you want and what is out there as it is a minefield. So I have what I think represent military watches from the British and the American. Perhaps I will keep them, perhaps I will sell them. I have sold of a few of my British military watches. So at present I am photographing them. I am still streamlining the watches and will continue to do so until I have the (what I believe) correct number of watches.
Anyway, I started from school, destroying a number of watches along the way, trying to figure how they work and so on. The watch that really started it all? Casio G-Shock? Citizen Ana-digi? Don't really know.
-
Its a long way down the road. A true collector indeed. I believe you are now a recovered watchaholic...retiring from watch collecting.
But I also believe old flame will once in a while ignite the interest to collect the grail for old time sake.

dc,
I guess I may not truly stop collecting as new models come out. However, with every passing year, the goal seems to shift further and further away. Prices are going up at an unbelievable rate. True that there is always the pre-love market, but there the prices are scary. Perhaps it is time to look at those under the radar brands.
Takashi78,
As requested, the photographs of the case back. Yes the watch case is PVD Black. But what I like is the attention to detail I sometime find lacking in better known brands. Just look at the notches when you would place the case back opener. It is not PVD. Why? Well imagine if it was and it got scratched (and it will) when you send it for service. Lots of case back replacement.
The case back and the movement. I like the Jack and Ace on the rotor.

Hopefully, the local guy @ Mont Kiara will bring it in someday - so that (we/I) can actually inspect it before pulling the trigger.

dc,
The Stingray is no longer available. As I understand it, all available stock has been sold. The rumour is that the Stingray will be replaced by the Tornek Rayville, but not the TR1000. That will will remain a limited production model. We will have to wait and see. I have to say that I am impressed by the quality of the watch.
As much as I want to stop, it is hard like when you are presented with the opportunity to purchase these watches..... (they are in that good a condition).

Anyway my Bell & Ross. BR 03-92 Steel Military Type. This model has been discontinued. Would have loved to take the pair (I have a BR 01-92) but can't because Bell & Ross Service center has to clear up the mess with my watch. They scratched the dial during service and waiting what they want to do. They are contending they did not scratch the dial. No worries as I have photographs of the watch before I sent it in.

My Aristo Navigator XL reference 3H59H. It has a 'hour angle dial'. Sadly it is not a true Hour angle dial as the hour hands turns once every 12 hours instead of 24 hours. Thought of modifying the movement but found out it is not as easy as changing the hour wheel.

Not something new but got my Cyma watch back. Happy? Well for RM330, I am. Redial, hands polished, seconds hand refurbish, movement stripped and rebuilt, now running +2 seconds a day and new 'croco' leather strap and spring bars. The only complain I have is that they missed out the minute markers, but no biggie.

Since I will be away for the next few days, I thought I post more of my watches. Back to Casio G-Shock love.
First up is the G-5600K-7DR I.C.E.R.C. watch. The bezel and band has slowly yellowed with age.
Next is the DW-5600B-1AVER. Got this one in UK. This is the original military version before the MS version came out last year. I just love the orange inside lining on the strap. Reminds me of flight jackets.

Next are the Dw-8XXX series, aka Gundam series. From left, DW-8140TC-6VT and DW-8150TC-3VAT.

And finally the DW-8300-1V aka the Stargate watch. This is the watch worn by the Stargate SG-1 TV series team members.

Tell us more about the Aristo.
Why is the inner circle numbered that way?
Whats hour angle dial?
Crap when i see Aristo i think of Toyota with the TT Supra engine hehe
The Aristo has a mock hour angle dial. It is not a real hour angle watch.
This is a real one.
The watch tells time by degrees. The inner radial is divided to 360° chapter. As such the hands rotate once ever 24 hours. The outer circle is divided into 60° chapter. The hands rotate once every 4 hours. In a real hour angle watch, there would be two more hands (some like the one by VC has 3), centrally mounted that rotates every 4 minutes, showing the angular minutes.
In the example above (OT the watch is valued at USD 1.7 million if I am not mistaken), the time shown in the image below reads 332° 8.5?, translating into 22 hours, 8 minutes and 33 seconds, the normal 'smile' face of watches being photographed.
Basically, the formula for conversion is 332 + (8.5 x 1/60). We are making it easy by taking it as 8.5' and not get it more complex to 8' 30". So that works out to 332.141666666666666666666...... Now to convert this to time as we know it. 332.14166666... x 4 (1 degree is 4 minutes) and we get 1,328.56666666... divide that by 60 (60 minutes in an hour) and you get 22.14277777777.... hours. So we know it is 22 hours. Convert the remaining 0.14277777777... to minutes, times 60. We get 8.566666666666.... so 8 minutes. To get the seconds, again times the 0.5666666... with 60 and you have 33 seconds. Must an easier way to tell time..... Basically to figure out the 'hour' hands, is made easier as the 60 would be 4, 120 is 8, 180 is 12, 240 is 16 and 300 is 20 and 360 would be midnight. So if the hour hand falls in-between these number, use the best guesstimation or agak-agakration.
So I guess I am 'lucky' to have the Aristo with the mock dial.
-
Man, if I have that watch and someone were to ask me the time,
it will take me at least an hour if he asks "BTW bro, how DO you tell time with that dial?"
And after an hour has passed, I'm not even sure if he'll understand!!! :Laughing_on_floor:

jacky8888,
The SAR is no longer available new. You can get them pre-loved and they do pop up in sales forum, particularly in military watch forums. I got mine preloved from a military collector in Singapore. Anyway the current model is the GSAR. The main difference is the use of the gas tubes, date at 4:30 o'clock position, Arabic hour markers and no cyclops. I could be wrong but some of the authorised distributor do ship international. I know one AD will only ship the SAR family of watches international. If you want to know more, just PM me and I can give you the details.
The Marathon SAR specifications:
Movement: ETA 2824-A2 Signed Marathon
Dial: measures 27.7 mm and utilizes Maraglo (Luminova)
Crystal: sapphire - 2.8 mm thick x 30.5 mm diameter
Case: is cut from 316L stainless steel
Case diameter is approximately 46 mm
Bezel diameter is 41.1 mm, milled engraved and filled
Case Height is 13.85 mm
20 mm lugs with drilled holes
Crown: 6.5 mm dia x 5.5 mm long, deep knurled
Weight of head 93.1 grams
All the best with your hunt.

Nothing actually, both share the same module. Well the display is different. The Ocean Grey has a 'mirror' LCD display and the Rising White has the reverse LCD display.

Bulova reference 96A102. This is Bulova 'homage' to the US Military 'ORD Dept' Ordnance watch series from WWII by Bulova itself. Too bad it is quartz powered unlike the original.

I am sure you guys must be bored by now. No worries, the entire collection should be up and posted by tomorrow. Once that is done, that is my entire collection and you can understand why I am no longer collecting.
More Casio G-Shock. One more batch to go, I promise.
G-101L-2AV. The original leather strap is long gone. Now fitted with a 22 mm blue 'Bond' NATO strap.
G-101-1AVMDS. I actually got this on-line from a shop in Malaysia.
G-100DM-8AJF. I guess Panerai was not the first to come out with a watch for the 'Chinese' market.
G-5700L-1JF. The watch comes with the beautiful leather strap you see. I changed it with the rubber strap. Hard to photograph as the LCD display has a mirror finish, which makes telling the time just as difficult.
DW-6100. Vintage G-Shock.

Another 25th Anniversary watch, the DW-5725B-7DR.
And finally my prized piece in the entire Casio G-Shock collection. The 25th Anniversary Project Team 'Tough' watch. This is the same as the ones you worn by the team that created the first Casio G-Shock the DW-5000.
Note the 'microwave' like LCD display and the Project Team 'Tough' on the dial. This is a limited edition of 2008 pieces.

ck 77,
Not really, just the outer AR coating is badly scratched. I could polish out the coating but I prefer to leave it that way. The Gen 2 does not come with the outer AR coating and replacement crystal also do not come with the coating. I guess Omega is learning for past experience.
Adrian,
Not really saving the best for last. :) Just 2 more watches to go and yes, they are the reason I have stopped collecting.

I knew you must be having a X-33, was waiting for you to post it ;D
Any velcro goes along with this beauty?

I have the kevlar strap and a locally sourced and made velcro strap. I understand it was very popular. They are no longer made, sadly.

Finally the end. My collection is complete. The final two piece in the jig-saw puzzle. I hope you guys have enjoyed this as much as I have posting them. Thank you for your time.
As you may be aware, my favourite brand is Panerai and I have always wanted to get a special/ limited edition watch to complete my Panerai collection. However, ever rising prices and limited availability has prevented me from getting one. Anyway all this ended today with this.
PAM00367.
Well I would love it if it had the 'pig' but I am happy with it this way. With the SLC.
And with the Incursore.
The other watch I was looking for was a chrono with a tri-compax design. Friends (or enablers) have tried to 'seduce' me with the PAM00072 and other Panerai with the Tri-compax dial design. I have resisted. I finally decided that the Speedmaster would be the best choice. The question was which one, the Alaska Project, the 50th Anniversary model, the new one with the meteorite dial?. So I ended up with this.
The beautiful font of the Arabic hour index markers.
The date complication at the 6 o'clock position.
The case band fluting.
The signed crown.
The brushed bezel.
The Breguet Type XX Transatlantique reference 3820.
So, I have finally come full circle and have completed my collection. Will there additions to the collection? I doubt so, unless it is one that I truly want and if it is reasonable priced. I suspect the opposite will be true. I will be selling off some pieces to streamline the collection.
Again I hope you guys have enjoyed this thread. Thank you for your time.

Thank you for the kind words.
Anyway after looking through the thread, I realised that I missed out 2 more watches. My BR01-92 which is still with Bell&Ross Service center and my wife's Cartier Tank Francaise Large Automatic.

I was fortunate enough to be able to compare the different versions before I got the Transatlantique Type XX. I was originally tempted by the Type XXI, not having seen the Type XX. I had all three watches side by side and decided on the 3820. It was a choice between the 3800 (Aeronavale) and the 3820. I wanted the date complication. So I went with the 3820. The 3810 (Type XXI) was beautiful but it did not do it for me. It sang but not as loud as the Type XX.
My friend even suggested I wait till the end of the month so that I can see the 3803 (Type XX Limited Edition), but that is way out of my budget. To me the best watch is to have the case of the Type XX, dial from the 3820 but matte, the white hands from the 3800, the bezel and crown from the 3803. That would be just lovely. But I am happy with what I got.
-
Just curious.
What's the difference between the Aeronavale and Transatlantique other than the cosmetic and date?
Are there any main differences between the 2 calibres? Also the history behind these 2 models?
Cheers
Love the Breguet ;D

Love the Breguet ;D
The major difference between the Aeronavale and the Transatlantique is the date complication. Because of that, the movement used is basically the same, the difference is again the date complication.
Other differences includes:
Aeronavale vs Transatlantique.
Polished bezel vs brushed bezel
Gray (?) dial vs black dial
Matte dial vs polished dial
White hands vs polished hands
The Aeronavale is fitted with the Breguet 582 while the Transatlantique is fitted with the Breguet 582Q. The movement is based on the Lemania movement and is exclusive to Breguet. It started life based on the Lemania 1873 (Omega 861). Ebel had a hand in the life of the movement with some modifications. When the Type XX was introduced in the 90s, Lemania created a fly-back movement based on the Ebel movement and removed the date complication (for the Aeronavale). Breguet called the the 582 (Lemania 1378). Later when the Transatlantique was introduced, the date complication was fitted (refitted?) and it was called the 582Q (Lemania 1372). Along the way, Breguet also stepped up the decorative finishing of the chronograph levers, adding straight graining and high polished beveling.
The type XX was introduced in the 90s when Breguet was in the hands of the INVESTORS CORPORATION. It was a sad time for Breguet as it was not doing well and retailers was dumping prices on the watches. The Type XX was reintroduced to arrest this problem and to have an entry level watch into the Breguet name. Sadly this did not work out well for Breguet as the reissued Type XX had problems with the movement fitted. Breguet's service channels were clogged with malfunctioning Type XX chronographs, soiling the Breguet name at the crucial entry level. This was later rectified when Swatch took over Breguet (?).
The Type XX has a long history in the Type 20. It was introduced in the 50s. The Breguet Type 20 chronograph (it was not known as the Type XX back then) was produced in small numbers until it won the official approval of the French military services in 1950. From 1954, Breguet was commissioned by the French government to supply the Type 20 to the Air Force, the Naval Air Arm, and the CEV (Flight Testing Center?). The Breguet Type 20s used stainless steel cases and screwed case backs.
The original type 20 are high in demand and there are lots of franken type 20 and even fakes. Many were redial Mathey Tissot watches.

Finally got my BR01-92 back from Bell & Ross Service. Now the collection is complete. Got this pre-loved and with lots of wabi-sabi. Have to say that the PVD can take a lot of beating.

Great looking BR01-92! And I have the exact same clock sitting in my studies!

Erm... Mr.Hobbit... just curious coz you said that the Breguet is the last piece of your puzzle...
What puzzle and what do you mean by a complete collection?
I'm just a curious cat coz for myself... my collection will be complete once I have myself a Rolex and a high end Minute Repeater watch.
Just an obsession that I have... :P

Hanz079,
The Breguet ends the collection, basically the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle. The BR01-92 has been away in B&R for a service (2 months), so I could not take a photograph of the watch. It is not a new addition to the collection. As for my collection, I consider it 'complete' as I have the watches I want. For example, take the chronograph complication, I wanted to get the ETA 7750 and Lemania 5100 as they are the 'workhorse' in the chronograph movement. But they are not of the 3,6,9, tri-compax design, so I wanted a watch with a Tri-compax dial layout and got it in the Breguet. I was going for the Omega Speedmaster Moon Watch, but was offered the Breguet (new, unused) at a very very good price, so went with the Breguet.
I wanted a big-date complication and got the Montblanc Timewalker Big Date. Added bonus the Timewalker series was design by the same guy who designed Panerai watches. Note the design cues of the Timewalker and the Panerai 1950 case.
Another example are watches that is related to the industry I love, Aviation, being a former aircraft engineer. I always considered the watches that are really linked to aviation are like the Rolex GMT Master, the Breitling Aerospace and the Omega X-33. For that matter, I consider the Aerospace and X-33 as 'must' get quartz digital display watches. And I am fortunate to have both.
Just like for Panerai, I only collect models from the historic collection, but only those with the sub-second hand. Hence the white dial PAM00003, the black dial PAM00111 and the Radiomir PAM00183. However, I do not have a painted dial historic model and also a limited edition or special edition Panerai. That was solved when I was fortunate enough (I was at the boutique when the watch arrived and the watch was not allocated nor did the boutique staff knew it was coming) to get the PAM00367 which satisfy the need for a painted dial and special/ limited edition. Yes, the Destro is still missing from the collection, but I am (sadly) not willing to pay the asking price for the watch.
And like you said, your collection would be complete once you get a Rolex (and minute repeater - solved by the Aerospace). I too think that any watch collection 'would not' be complete if it did not have a Rolex in it (as much as you like or hate the brand). Hence the Sea-Dweller and GMT Master (also fills the need for a true GMT watch and an added bonus of being a watch design in collaboration with pilots).
The story continues with the German watches (would be nice if I had one which is fully German) and the rest....
-
Thanks for clarifying... now I really understand...

hanz079,
All the watches were sold to a friend who have been asking me to sell to him the watches since I assembled them a long time ago. Good friend and sold on instalment plan. There will be other, and I will post them on the sales forum. However these are not assembled by me. I am consolidating the collection to just a couple of brands and watches.

Hahaha... seems like we are very much alike... some of my watches also sell to close friend by installment... :HammerHead:

Panerai PAM00243
Stage 2 coming.
-
I salute you, Bro TheHobbit.
-
Quite a bit of sacrifice to get the Pam.
Zitan,
Not really a sacrifice. I guess it is time to rationalise. It was not in the plan to get the Panerai. It just came about, so traded some of the watches (not all) for the Panerai.
-
Looks like a good move to me...
-
wah.....pengsan....
Just to take them out to share some luv will at least use up a couple of hours.. Salute hobbit..!
thanks for sharing. Really amazed at the collections.
Bro, with so many watches, do you keep the purchase/made dates of the watches just so that you can send them for service when the time is due?
For automatic watches, how do you rotate them on the winders? Categorise them or sometimes, just let it be awhile.
ah...I see Seikos, Casios, but why no Citizen watches, if I may ask...
-
bro peiseh,
citizen is no.4 on the master Hobbit list. ;)

Peiseh,
I have actually gone through 2 Citizen watches. Sadly both the watches are gone. Both have been sold (or traded). I still have a number of old Seiko and Citizen in a box, old and unused and in various state of repair and disrepair. :)
With regards to rotation, I do have all my watches data on a spreadsheet. I have the price, date purchase, from where etc. It is a pretty comprehensive spreadsheet. Most of my watches are not on winders, although I have 4 winders, able to wind 10 watches. I just pick out what I want to wear for the day (if I go out) and set and wind up the watch. All my watches are kept in the Hardigg StormCase.
The collection will thin down just to a number of brands. At the moment the brands confirmed are Panerai, Rolex, Tudor, Breguet, Breitling, IWC and Sinn. The rest are still on the chopping block, but might change when the time comes. Brands on the chopping block are (but not limited to) Omega (except the X-33), Longines, Precista, Hamilton, CWC, most of the Casio G-Shock (keeping vintage ones), most if not all the military watches and some other brands. I might even sell off the Marathon SAR and JSAR and even the MKII Stingray. Will see what happens in the next few weeks. Trades are also possible as there are 3 watches 'calling' out my name, 14060M, PAM00199 and PAM00219.
-
You even have a Breguet? wow
Was it posted here somewhere?
-
Sid Vicious,
Go back to page 11 of this thread. It is the Transatlantique.
-
Noted.
Nice watch but I was looking at the more simple dress watches. Whichever they do cost a bit, I went asking around here and having a feel :) I'll aim for another Rolex and PP and see how that goes
-
Bro Hobbit, those on the chopping board, put at the Sale section, so some of us can buy, since you take good care of the watches. Do you???

siodee,
I will try and post them on the sales forum. However some of the watches are used and do show. Some are unused (no wrist time), hence the culling. The next batch will the military watches and I am not sure if there are any military collectors on MWF.

I think there are...dont worry, if yr sale like mine, hopefully not, then just bump once a while ;D

Hobbit, if you're selling some of your collection, would really like to see them on the sales section. You're letting go your Omegas?

Thanks for sharing.

Anyway thanks for the forum and a place to vent some steam.

Yes sir I did. It was a case of love did not go well. Just like the B&R. love the watch but ownership experience ruined it (well B&R service ruined it). Such is life.

Yes, life goes on whether one is feeling "up" or "down".
Love your military pieces, hobbit.

Nice collect indeed. Anyone have Rolex submariner 16610 vintages collection as well?
I am actually planning to let go my pre-owned Rolex submariner 16610. :)
-
As I am coming to the end of my watch collecting, I decided to post my entire collection here.

Nite MX10-201 (NSN 6645-99-133-5227). The same watch issued to the UK Special Forces.

Nice and simple, been searching high and low from the bay / net for a cheap tritium watch, but mostly price north of US200 :(
was hoping to get below US100 or some where around there... love your watch collection BTW !
It was like revealing your most precious possession
-
Master Hobbit.. impressive! *salute*
-
Dear Sifu Hobbit,
Browse this thread before but decided to do in detail. Spend the whole night(or rather morning). Real "awesome collection". Thanks for sharing and learn a lot from this thread (from other forummer) as well. A real "SIFU" indeed.
Cheers!!!!!!!!!!
-
Thank you all. I will update this soon (once the shift is completed). Recent culling exercise has reduced and changed the collection.
-
This is my collection as it stands today. Pieces that you do not see have either been sold, traded, being sold or going to be sold. The entire military collection will be sold (some already). As for the Casio G-Shocks, they are being sold slowly to a local collector and I might be keeping a few (yet undecided).
Will there be changes to the collection? I cannot say no as I know that I am still looking at the elusive 5513/14060/14060M. When will this happen? Who knows. Friends locally have been 'most helpful' in showing me some 5513/14060/14060M. However it is safe to say that there will not be any major change to the collection now and in the future unless I take the drastic route of change brands. I have to say that I am done. Even when I got the call for the PAM00372, I went, looked and left (without the watch).
The collection (apologies for the poor quality of the photographs):
The Seiko boys.

The Tudor boys.

Longines.

and finally the Panerai boys.
It has indeed been a great adventure and these are the pieces with the best stories.
Thank you for your time.

Ivan, you left out a piece.
Speedy!
;D

Where is tutima ???
-
Ivan, you left out a piece.
Speedy!
;D
ck,
Ah the speedy.... my love affair gone wrong. As much as I like the moon watch, the models I truly like are the Snoopy version, the white dial 1969 LE and the 1957 replica (non date). I guess you can't have everything....
-
Where is tutima ???
The Tutima is sadly up for sale or trade as the case may be. As much as I would like to keep the Tutima (and the rest of the watches) I can't keep them all. I would like to reduce the collection to a more manageable level and I have even considered letting the Longines LD up as well. At the moment it is still in the collection. There was a time (very recent) that I even considered reducing to a bare minimum, and I mean less then 10 pieces. Yes, that means letting the go of some (if not all) of the Italian boys and even the Omegas. The trade was for the AP 40th Anniversary model.
In recent days, weeks even, I have not worn any of the watches in the collection above having the Marathon JSAR on the wrist. Before that it was the MKII Stingray 50 but that is in the workshop as the watch dropped when I was wearing it (someone knocked into me) and the crown and winding stem is now jammed together (replacement parts on order from MKII - great customer service). So, I am not really missing the watches. Unfair for the watch as they are not being used. That is the main reason for the culling exercise. More to come perhaps....
Like I said in the last GTG in Malaysia, I am already out of the game.
-
Ahhh...the Snoopy. My fav of all the LE Moonwatch.
I am wondering, how "resistant" is the caseback when worn daily.
Any idea what they use to print or apply?
Dont think i remember seeing your Tutima, mind to post some pics?
-
Ivan, do put me first on your list if you decided to let go LLD ;)

Yes sir, the lemon and orange are limited edition pieces (50 each colour) for Sinn German distributor Juwelier Roberto.

Nice hands and I really like the black date-wheel. Superb watch. I am one of those guys who are really keen on the well contrasted Sinn design but have restrained myself from buying too many Sinns. Wear in good health!! ;) ;) ;)

Hi Hobbit,
I have a 03-92 but have not use the rubber strap for long. Need to find a replacement in KL. thx in advance.
Nice B&R 03-92. Have the exact same one. But my rubber strap disintegrate near the lugs causing them to break due to non-wear for approx 3 months. Looking for the rubber strap replacements now.
If you PM me, I can tell you where you can get some original ones in KL.

Ivan, I've seen on page 10 of your PAMs, all nine of them. Being a PAM novice :-[, could you kindly list for me the model numbers? Or if you have actually posted a specific thread on your PAM collection, I'd be much obliged if you could point me towards it.
Thanks.
