BNIB watches not allowed in Sales Corner
« on: September 08, 2010, 08:40:15 AM »
hey guys,

while i'm checking this with one of the mods, i wld like to open this topic up for discussion. i'm curious as to why members are not allowed to sell bnib watches in SC? yes no doubt some may make $$ from selling bnib watches because they get their watches cheaper from their connections. but, does the forum not make provision for sellers who may have post purchase dissonance? bought a new watch on impulse or simply a gift that is not their cuppa tea and then decided they want to sell it?

i definitely respect the rules but i find this weird why it's not allowed?

cheers

james

Can't really think of the reasons but I'm sure there is. I'm curious as well. Maybe the mods can explain for the benefit of everyone who has the same thought.

I'm not sure if there are any sponsors for the forum. If there is then I can understand some of the rules.

Why are links to commercial sites not allowed? If a member found a good deal, why can't he openly share it? Mention the price, discount, etc? I recall seeing a post by Danny on a watch case and a lot of members asked him to pm the details. Would have been easier if it was openly shared.

Perhaps there should be a section where such posts are allowed?

Hello James,

Thanks for the valuable feedback.

First of all, all post in SC must be in Malaysia Ringgit because this is a Malaysia forum. You can PM the potential buyer in any currency later but it must be MYR in the post.

The reason we do not allow BNIB simply because we do not want any member to sell their brand new product/item in SC. MWF is not a commercialise forum and we do not take any sponsorship from anyone. We do not intend to turn MWF to be a commercial forum (at least now or in the near future). If we do so, there will be even a lot more restriction, trust me.

All in all, we firmly banned BNIB item to be sold in SC section to avoid someone/anyone who might take advantage on this matter (so far, we have not encounter one yet ;) ).

We totally understand what you mean by your BNIB (in your case) as we knew that your Tudor was really less (or a bit more) then a week-old :) therefore, you choose to put BNIB which I can totally understand. How about like new? Or provide some history about your item? Like "Just bought a week ago" and i'm sure the potential buyer understood. Or, some photo will help. Of course, in your case, we all have seen your nice photos at Watch Gallery section already ;)

Your understanding is very much appreciated.

 ,
Scott

Scott raised alot of valid points above.

If we allow new items to be sold then alot of members will disguise themselves and sell to no end. We do not intend to become like every other LY forum.

All suggestions and comments are welcome and these points can be made in our annual dinner next year.
Maybe we should have the all forum dinner every 6months sorta like a general meeting of ideas? :)

Hi James,
The forum does not forbid members from selling their pre-owned watches. In your case, the Tudor watch is definitely pre-owned regardless of whether you've worn it or not, so you are welcomed to put it in the Classifieds Section as long as you categorize it correctly.

BNIB and LNIB are terms normally employed by grey dealers to promote their wares and these are the exact activities which we wish to discourage on MWF. It is our hope that all members can work together to maintain the forum free of commercial elements.

Thank you for your understanding.

seriously I am cluesless ..what is BNIB...please explain to me someone... ;D

nonetheless, i strongly support the mod for not wanting to turn this forum to commercial one...i wish not that in the end of the day , we being bomb by thousands of advert, that could be very annoying...There is sales forum allowed so please respect the rules.

This forum should be a platform to share each other interest and experience..once it turn to commercial value, i am sure there be otehr way you guys can promote this..

Otherwise, if you wish to allow the forum being commercialized, there is also potential some company paying the mod to advert only his brand..now that wont be fun for most of us right...so best not to allow it at all

my 2cent for this great forum
