Vintage Seiko 7009A
« on: August 29, 2010, 04:39:28 PM »
I found this Seiko vintage belong to my grandfather with a serial no 092870 with 7009 movement. I'm not sure whether it's production date is Sept 1980 or 1990. Somemore i found out that the Day can't be adjusted. Anyone can help me.

If I not mistaken, the production is 1970 since the movement 7009 is a 70s movement.

Hi there...

I have a 7009 too... my serial no says it could be 1975, 1985 or 1995... when it was replaced the the 7s26.

To adjust the day, press in the crown.

Here's a pic of my 7009...

kltime, I will use jagjag's serial number as an example. The first 2 numbers are 0 and 9. 0 would indicate the year. 9 is September (1-9 is Jan-Sept while O-N-D is Oct-Nov-Dec). Then the following numbers 2870 would indicate it is the 2870th piece produced for September. The problem with this numbering is that it is too vague without knowing the production lifespan of a particular movement. It that movement has been in production spanning decades then you've got a problem. Thus 0 could mean 1970 or 1980 or 1990. It definitely can't be 2000 as the 7s26 replaced the 7009 sometime in 1995 or 1996. I am not sure if the movement was introduced before or after 1970... hence his 7009 might not have been made in 1970. So the best bet would be 1980 or 1990.

Hope this helps...

Thanks duniajam...

I found this site that has info on the 6xxx and 7xxx movements. Not sure how accurate it is... but it's seems the 7009 was introduced in 1980...

bro thalis,

I think yours is 1985... maybe since its already used a mineral glass. Most 70s watch used an acliric.

Yeah... you could be right... also the design of my 7009 is rather classic 80s... ha ha. I also have a Titoni Spacestar from the early 80s like that but not as slim. No pics of that now as it's going thru an overhaul...

Hiya jagjag

Thanks for your compliment. That pic was taken before I went over the thing with brasso, metasol and a towel. Now it looks so much better. Unfortunately, my white towel is now black!  :Laughing_on_floor:

Hope you got your day set.

Hiya jagjag (jaguar? Jack Jack from The Incredibles? )

What do you mean the bezel is stuck? Do you mean the crown is stuck when you push it in?
