If you all watch P. Ramlee's movies past the comedy, jokes, fun and laugh, you'll find that there were a lot of subtle social commentaries/criticisms behind most of his dialogues and scenes, mostly against the elites/aristocrats/royalties. Strip them of the comedic sketch, and you'll be amazed of how advanced his thoughts were.
This would be more evident in his more serious films, such as Antara Dua Darjat, Ibu Mertuaku, Penarik Beca, etc.
That's another versatility of of P. Ramlee - his comedy are hillarious to the hilt, and yet when he played the serious characters, it's tugging at the heart dearly.
As for Bukit Kepong, since my first viewing almost 30 years ago up til now, I never fail to shed tears at the end of the movie when the station was on fire and the sad background music was playing. It's a scandal that they never show it on TV anymore on the eve of Merdeka Day.
