PANERAI - References and what it comes with
« on: May 28, 2020, 10:19:13 PM »
hey guys!

It's been a while since I posted - been a lurker most of the time. haha

I've recently bought a pre-owned PAM 90 J-series 2007 from a reputable watch dealer in Subang - but realized they gave the wrong Manual in the set. I was sure to check everything else - the COSC card, the Warranty Card, the Stickers - all checked out, but not the manual booklet. They were kind enough to offer a refund, but I decided to keep the watch. It seems the previous owner sold the full set to them but gave the wrong manuals as he sold other Panerai's elsewhere too and may have gotten the manuals mixed up.

But I also realized that the Manual seems to be the Contemporary version (I received the GMT version, but actually need the Power Reserve) like this:

while the Warranty Booklet given was the older version like this:

I just want to check with you Panerai sifu's out there, is the Warranty Booklet accurate? And is there an older version of the Manual Booklet for PAM90 from 2007 or earlier models to match with the older Warranty Booklet?

Ps: the pictures above are not my actual watch/booklets

Thanks!

Hi Dennis,

Thanks for shedding more light on this! Though I am concerned since I received the other version...

But then when I previously had my PAM 24 that was Automatic as well (E-Series 2002) - I also received the older Warranty Booklet and Manual Booklet as below:

And I found off the web some pictures of the older types of Manual Booklet for Power Reserve Models - instead of the Contemporary version.

I am so confused! Not sure now if I received even the correct Warranty Booklet (FYI AD stamp is from Roma, Italy)

most important is the movement serial number at COSC certificate are tally with the warranty card/booklet. The manual booklet are secondary. Maybe the previous owner may pass the wrong manual to the shop.

depend on what you like bro... luminor? radiomir? submersible? luminor due?
then manual wind? automatic? date or without date?

for beginner i will say those 8 days power reserve series like pam510... else the pam1312 / 1351 / 1321 with the date function...all this model is equip with their in house movement..

for me i like those discon model (with a lot of fake out there) likes 000, 005, 111 and 112 with ETA movement.

312 has 2 versions I believe - the latest (current) model 1312 comes with blue seconds hand. These come in the 1950's case.

Personally I'm like Dennis - I love the older models - (Luminor 44mm case aka "Bettarini cases") - but that is personal preference.

If you're looking for the newer models, depending on your budget, I would recommend you do not go for the "Pop" Case back, but opt for those with Screw-down casebacks. I like the PAM 795 - comes the older Luminor 44mm case, 8-days manual wind with Power Reserve indicator. But another option would be the PAM510 8 days manual wind - if you like a cleaner looking dial.

Happy hunting!
