Ah, no. That's an aperture for the oscillating weight. This is a quartz watch that, after 35 mins of inactivity, will go into a "sleep" mode. Once the oscillating weight moves (i.e. watch detects movement), it sends a signal to the microprocessor to adjust the hands to the correct time (via shortest distance, to save on energy used).
