Besview, the COSC 14060M is the only version one can buy new today. It is stocked by by most retailer. Rolex raises its price ever so frequently, I am sure it is more expensive than its predecessor a few years ago.

It is hard to predict if the COSC 14060M will be more collectible. People who buy the ND sub (over the 16610) are those who are into Rolex "heritage" or history. They normally prefer an uncluttered dial reminiscent to the venerable 5513.
Dunno if Rolex has made a mistake in putting out a old image. Like you said, there has been rumors and prediction that the 14060M will be discontinued or available for sale until stock runs out.
