Melbourne Watch Company: Hawthorn
« on: April 01, 2014, 12:14:46 PM »
Hey guys, a micro brand Melbourne Watch Company launched a kickstarter project for a new watch brand: Hawthorn

in steel bracelet

solid caseback

Their previous debut model, the Flinders project was well received and I am curious as to what the hype was about.

Watch specs:
- 42mm 316L fully brushed stainless steel case (12mm thick, 48mm lug to lug)
- Flat anti-reflective sapphire crystal top and display case back
- Miyota 8205 automatic movement with day/date indicator at 3 o'clock
- Multi-layered dial with applied markers and a textured "carbon fibre" style centre
- C3 super-luminova on markers and hands
- Unique "M" counterbalance on the sweep seconds hand
- 100m water resistance

As I am a newbie, I would love to hear your opinion on this watch. Feels like quite worth for a sapphire crystal watch with lume. My only dislike is that the rotor is unsigned and kinda ugly, so might have to use the solid caseback. What do you guys think? Should I get one as my first mechanical watch?

If I am not mistaken, I don't think we are allowed to post the prices. You should google it, its on kickstarter and their company website. I personally feel it is worth it for a mechanical watch although it is a micro brand.

From the kickstarter site:

**UPDATE - We're now fully funded and have achieved both stretch goals!! Thank you for your support!**

Unless you have another site for it. Nice looking watch on the leather.

I think you can still Pre-order (purchase) it from their website at the same price (compared to kickstarter).

Thanks I hadn't noticed that. With a new job in the offing, in a rough location, it may be a good option. At the price I won't to be too upset to lose it as a 'facilitation fee'. If I get to keep it that's even better. ;)

yes, they are fully funded and both stretch goals are hit but that doesn't mean you can't pre-order anymore. They still have many available units for you to pledge on, you can still buy as long as they have stock. The funding goal is only to produce the first 300 units and stretch goals are to give the solid caseback and additional straps.

Im actually really pleased to see an Aussie watch company.  Their first model, the Flinders, looks really nice, classic without being derivative, modern without being silly, and is well priced.
