Malaysia Inward Shipping experience
« on: April 14, 2009, 08:37:47 AM »
Hi guys and gals,

I have never shipped any package across the border before. But I am wondering are the customs reliable? If say the package declared valued is US$100, will it be confiscated?

I have heard from my friend in Kuching, that even baby clothes worth US$200 was lost at the customs.... what can one do to ensure smooth delivery of watches ?

 ;)

Watchwerkz,
Just to share my personal experience. Last year I ordered a Seiko JDM model from Japan. Shipped via EMS, and arrived within 5 days (give or take one day). The price approx 800+USD, and it cleared customs without any problem.
I suppose things should work out fine if the items are shipped via a reliable courier service.

Yes. You will need a reliable courier service. No tax for watches in Malaysia, so, i think it shouldn't stuck in custom unless you ship something extra together with your watch...

oh ok..thanks...

I suppose I will either use Fedex or EMS,though my heart says Fedex is probably a safer bet?

I have the same concern too, what if the customs officers decide to keep the watch for themselves? What I don't like is the risk of it being 'lost in transition'

I guess this happens everywhere in every country.
Not sure with the economy right now, will it mean that the chances of "lost in transist" packages will go up.

Update on my experience in shipping to Malaysia/Indonesia:

Have not tried shipping to Malaysia still. But had an opportunity in shipping a USD 800 (declared value) watch twice to Balikpapan (somewhere very "ulu" in East Kalimantan, Borneo)

and it was a breeze..takes a while..but was not a problem at all. in fact the watch was sitting in the post office for a week because the buyer didnt have time to pick up the watch when he wasnt at home. he was glad to find that the watch remained "unscathed"

so i am not sure if it's two-times lucky or what, but everything was smooth.

Oh by the way, I used EMS-Speedpost, and insured with ParcelPro. PP advises to list the item as "timing instrument" instead of "watch" so that may help??

My purchase from Germany by using FedEx was a good experience.
Item reached Sepang on the 3rd day, cleared by custom and reached me on the same day!  8)

I would agree with Yan..to fill form as 'timing devices' or 'timing gauges' or just 'gauges' ..gauges indicators...etc.

I am almost a recovered watchaholic, but last checked shows only 70% recovered. How?

i'm also an avid ebayer and also watch accessories collector

for as long as the value is below USD$2000, i'm ok declaring as wrist watch.

but once it passes that, i've always used "timing gauge", "time instrument" and etc.
so far, fedex has never failed me.
