Great job for putting perspective back into the diversity of diving watch map. The all time popular Submariner & Seamaster had become so overwhelming that diver watch automatically relates to the two. But the truth is, diver watch can be subtle and classy at the same time too.

Your educational effort is greatly appreciated.

I see. I still think that the internal bezel + that extra large crystal give that bigger illusion.
Still breath generous amount of elegance.  ;)

The original from the 60s...

Dial...

Photo: Achim

The watch...

Photo: shamelessly borrowed from the Internet

Another version...

Photo: Rich H

And yes, there was a date version as well. Although the design is not the same as the current reissue date version. This version was suppose to be Longines attempt at becoming a supplier to the RAN (Royal Australian Navy) but lost to Droz 2 diver.

FYI....

It is still unconfirmed if the LLD no date is still in production or has been discontinued. It is no longer reflected in the Longines Website. Anyway, for those looking for one, may want to try and check under the following model number:

New Model reference: L3.674.4.56.3

The original reissue has the following reference: L3.672.4.56.2

The change in the reference was due to a change in the supplier for a part of the case used for the LLD.

I suspect the change could be the internal rotating bezel as the later LLD (no date) internal rotating bezel index markings is more aligned to the dial markers as compared to the earlier models.

Additionally, the current date models of the LLD has the extra 30 bar (300 meter) on the dial (below the Automatic). I suspect this is to align the date model to the RAN model.

L3.674.4.56.2
L3.674.4.56.3

I am not sure where you got these numbers. If I remember correctly the last number tells the strap the wwatch is equipped with.  56 means the dial is black. 4 means stainless steel case. L3 tells you this watch is grouped under the hydro / admiral line.

harkensng,

Thanks for the info. However the lld is only available with the 'sail cloth' type strap, yet the last number has changed from 0 to 2 and then 3 over its short life span.

Additionally, from my understanding the jury is still out on the Longines numbering system. For example the number 5X denotes black dial, but the X can be anything between 0 to 9 dependent on the dial design, i.e. date window, chrono, etc.

I suspect the numbering system is not that simple.
