Was advise to start a new thread, hence the "title".
Copy & paste from the other "Street photography" thread :
"Am contemplating to organise a street shoot in KL sometime in December (as I am not free all weekends since Oct till end Nov). Tentative dates (subject to majority members preference) - 3 or 10 or 17 December 2011 around 7.30am
All Members are welcome whether using compact, film or dSLR.
I have narrow down the Venue to 3 areas :
1) Brickfields - can take the shops area + some religous architecture (Buddhist, Hindu, Christian)
2) Dataran Merdeka - surrounding area from the old Royal Selangor Club to the confluence of Gombak River
3) Petaling Street and its adjacent roads - many lifestyles around with some old pre-war building.
Would like to know MWF members preference before I open a new thread on this.
Cheers,
Chng"
What say you, members of MWF?
-
Great idea. I'm definitely interested.
10th and 17th December should be fine for me.
As for the location I'm leaning more towards Petaling Street.
-
Thanks Danny.
I guess December is still too early for most members here in MWF. Some may have plans for family holidays, hence I proposed the 3 dates.
Still awaiting more feedbacks.
For those "green" in photography, no worries. No "big guns" dSLR, no worries.
As the title suggest, it is about street photography - doesn't matter if you are new or expert in photography, using a film cam or compact (PnS) or lomo or dSLR, all are welcome.
We can share and exchange ideas/tips/advices on taking lifestyle pictures (street photography).
Cheers.
-
If Petaling street, make it street photography and food exploration, sambil makan sambil ambil gambar ;D...December schedule belum keluar, so cant confirm now
-
No problem Bro Siodee. Agreed with you that "sambil ambil gambar, kita enjoy makan" will be Fun.
It's just that I am full all weekends in Oct till 6/11/11 and after that another 2 weeks outstation.
Am only free in December, hence the proposal.
Anyway will keep this thread open till end Nov before more MWF members revert on the date and venue.
Cheers.
-
than we set a theme for the shooting...
the best KL street food!!! :Laughing_on_floor: :Laughing_on_floor: :Laughing_on_floor:
chu cheong fun, sei ngan chye salty duck, gun gei wantan mee, gum lin gei hokkien mee..........
-
Sounds like an interesting theme.
But if it has a theme, is it still "casual" street shooting?
But i guess anything goes also haha.
-
Theme should be something like : Street Photography - Petaling Street Food
A sample tour will be like :
1) Restoran Yok Woo Hin - established in 1928 for VVIP in its early years, now serves dim sum, fried beef noodle, fried bee hoon with "phai guat" Cantonese style,
2) A drink at the famous "Air Mata Kuching" stall - the boss have been selling this drink > 10 years now, and lives in a PJ bungalow.
3) Next the sugar cane drink seller (if you do not want the air mata kuching)
4) The "Nam Heong" restaurant which sells chicken rice - established since 1938 famous for their chicken rice (very tasty) and they close around 3 or 4 p.m.(if I am not mistaken)
5) There is a Muachi stall too (different from Penang Ma Chi)
6) Shin Kee Beef Noodles Specialist, a small stall, is settled slight opposite of Central Market.
7) Was told that Kim Lian Kee Restaurant is located slight opposite of Hong Leong Bank, exactly at the main junction of Petaling Street, along the Hang Lekir road. It is famous with its Hokkien Mee/"Dai Luk Min". Besides, there served around 280++ different kinda Chinese dishes. Tong Sui is available there with only RM1.50 per bowl. (dunno got increase price or not)
Note : These is just a sample of some of the shops found around Petaling Street. There are more shops and stalls not mentioned in the above.
Cannot continue anymore, feeling hungry already. Gotta go for yum cha.
Last Cheers for the last day of Octoberfest month.
Chng.

Watchnewby (Chang)
You got all covered where food/s are concerned in the chinatown..
In this case, if u people decided to go around chinatown 'shooting' pictures...then I must bring along my compact camera and join you people....lah
dc
-
David,
You are most welcome to join in the Petaling street shooting cum makan2.
Compact cam is a non-issue, having fun taking pictures + enjoy the Malaysian delicacy is the main menu apart from getting to know the other MWF members who has similar hobbies.

Street Photography Gtg In KL - December 2011
I was trying to find out the meaning of GTG on an online dictionary and among the 40 plus
answers are 1) get the girl 2)girl to girl and the best 3) good time girl. lol
-
Watchtime,
Gtg in MWF context refers to "Get Together gathering".
-
not "going to go". this means almost starting to make a move...hehe
-
It's been a long time since I last set foot in MWF (about 1 1/2 weeks)
Anyway, it is about 1 month ago I put up this suggestion for a street shoot at Petaling Street.
So, peeps, 10 or 17 Dec?

Wah, this activity looks interesting... but I missed. :(
Siodee,
The 1st shot looks like using "miniature" filter?
The 2 with artist & potraits looks nice too, esp the PMs shot. Might looks good if u convert it to black n white.
-
Wah, Bro Siodee, so fast post the pic.s already.
Mine should be out by end of the week, as last weekend was a hectic one. (Sat -day MWF photoshoot, night dinner and X-mas function, Sun - day YMCA Table tennis Open, night X-mas function, Mon - day family time jalan2, night - table tennis practice)
Anyway, nice meeting fellow MWF members and we had a Fun time taking photos around Petaling Street and the two streets parallel to it as well as Central Market.
Thanks for joining in the walkabout Danny, Scott and Siodee; and Thanks to David for taking us around "makaning" as he is very familiar with the "makan" shops around the area.
Have a good week ahead.

Wow Danny your pics came out super sharp!
What gear were you using that day?

If you look at the flickr (top right), it tells what gear used ;)
-
Thanks Danny ;)

I ran all my images through the "unsharp mask" filter for additional sharpening. This is usually the final step in the post process workflow.
You may have been shooting with the lens wide open hence the slightly soft dreamy look which looks great IMHO.
-
Wow Danny your pics came out super sharp!
What gear were you using that day?
The top seven images in my first post were taken with the Canon EOS 60D with 50mm f1.4 lens and the last image in the first post and the images in the 2nd post were taken using the Ricoh GXR with A12 M Mount fitted with Voigtlander 40mm f1.4 lens. I believe the sharpness is all due to the post processing.
Like Scott said, you can check out the EXIF info for these images on my Flickr site.
-
Nice series b&w series, Danny. Love the contrast and tone.
As for Scott's pictures, I like the first picture with the old lady (I remember she shouted "No photo! No photo!"). I think the second and third picture was over "pushed" and shown a wee exposed on the dark side. Also like the "dreamy" interior temple shot.
-
Thanks Chang.. actually i personally prefer higher contrast and that 2 wasn't really over pushed by the post process.. maybe it's due to the film development i was over develop it... i can't do much on it as in post processing...that's the film challenge :D
Also, i notice mine not as sharp...it can be the scanner/scanner software.... also, i notice my film a big curve (after discuss with few friends) lead to the un-sharp image but all in all, like the result on the Lucky-B&W100 film push over to 400 ;) will try another roll maybe this weekend ;D
-
Wow, Danny's shots are really sharp & nice bokeh.
Scotts is good at capturing those "action" moments...
Swee, all very swee. Must join next time.
-
Yup, agreed, very nice bokeh, 50mm sure make a lot different. I look like fat ass in the pict :Blue: remind me on diet ;D
Scott's photo is another type of art, I like those temple shot, mono with sun ray
when is next round???

when is next round???
Soon I hope. This time Alvin has gotta join us.

Aiyo! Next round already ar? Have not got the time to post my pic.s yet. Will try to do it during the X-mas weekend.
Anyway, suggestion for the next round - Brickfields area or Masjid Jamek area?

The next question would be the date. As Chinese New Year is just around the corner (only 1 month away), most weekends will be spent on cleaning/clearing house or shopping for CNY. I think not the right time in January 2012. Maybe after CNY, in Feb?

Hi watchnewby,
I believe you linked the thumbnail images instead of the larger size images. You need to copy and paste the BB code for the individual image into your post.
You may find some useful instructions here: http://www.flickr.com/help/sharing/
Looking forward to seeing your pics.

Thanks, Danny, for the information. Just found out about it only late last night.
Will put in the correct link and add more pic.s by this weekend when I have more time.
