Seiko Presage Fuyugeshiki - Winter Scene
« on: March 16, 2020, 11:48:55 AM »
Hi Guys,

Sharing my thoughts on the watch after a year of owning it. Video review here (spent a ridiculous amount on time on it ):

https://youtu.be/QEtIibexPlg

Brand
Seiko

Model Number
SSA385J1

Official Name
Fuyugeshiki

Movement Information/review
4R57
29 jewels, 21600bph, date subdial and power reserve, hacking and hand winding, 41hrs power reserve

Case review
Beautifully finished. Nice large signed crown which is extremely easy to operate.

Dial Dial Dial
This watch is all about the dial. The texture is absolutely beautiful. Some people have named it the baby baby snowflake (with the baby snowflake being the more expensive SARX055). However, I personally think that it looks more like ice than snow. The way it plays with the light is mesmerizing. In addition to that, the logo, indices and hands are finished really nicely and under macro it is fantastic at this price range.

Crystal Review
Hardlex. Disappointing as it really should have Sapphire. However, after a year of relatively heavy use, it is almost scratch free which is strange. My SNKL23 has lots of scratches. I'm guessing that they have different classes of hardlex as well. The box dome is gorgeous though, creating nice distortions of the dial.

Bracelet review
Passable. Comfortable to wear and does look quite striking. Non-solid endlinks is a letdown.

Complications
Power reserve indicator and date subdial. Love the power reserve indicator but the date subdial is almost useless as it is way too small to read. However, it is aesthetically pleasing.

Closing Thoughts

In terms of dial designs, I think the Seiko can't be beat at this price range. IMO the Fuyugeshiki has amongst the best dials of all watches at this price range. 50m of water resistance also makes it a great everyday versatile watch. I'd definitely recommend getting one if you can (getting harder to find).

Certainly like the snowflake-like dial. I do think that the case is little too thick and its size is little too big for those who have a small wrist (I have a small wrist). On a side note, maybe you can share your wrist shot with the watch photos here for our reference?

Yeah it really is on the thick and large side. The one without the power reserve indicator is quite a lot thinner (about 2mm). Wish it was like 38-39mm as well.
