As one of the newly appointed moderators of this German timepieces sub-forum, I should play my part in promoting watches of this genre.
As such these are wrist shots taken much earlier of my current few German watches to start with..

From what I know, when Poljot ceased operations, Alexander Shorokoff started Poljot International based in Germany. Besides this and the brand named after him, he also has another sister brand called Basilika.

But I read earlier that the original Poljot was bought/revived by someone else... not sure how the naming rights will turn out.

From my understanding, Poljot International started life as a distribution arm of Poljot, to sell Poljot watches internationally, and also in Germany. In the year 2000 to 2003 (there abouts), rumours of the fall of Poljot came about and Poljot International became a company producing Poljot brand watches with German case and Russian Poljot movement. This slowly change and more and more Poljot International watches are being fitted with more and more German parts. The brand Poljot International is owned by Alexander Shorokoff.

I suspect the introduction of the brand Basilika is to move the watches away from the Poljot brand name as Poljot did not shut down but was taken over by a Russian businessman. However that Russian businessman has yet to decide what to do with the brand. I understand it is still producing watches but at a very small production level as funding is an issue. So, at the moment, we will just have to wait and see what happens next.

Thanks for sharing. I also feel Basilika is to hedge the risk of an ugly brand name tussle... or even his lack of control over the strategy and quality of the downsized Poljot. If only he had managed to buy the Poljot brand and avoided this problem.

Superb Lange up there and Junghans.

Dear Sir TJWN

Thanks for clearing the air.

This thread is about German Watch brand so I think German managed Swiss produced watch can qualify.

I-Phone produced in China managed by US consider US brand, Ball watch managed in US produced in Swiss consider US watch?

The old Bulova watch produced in Swiss managed in US that's consider US watch.

Well nowadays a lot of companies do not produce themselves they just market, manage etc.

Anyway if anyone felt that this Davosa is not German watch Brand please let me know I shall remove my post.  :)

But whatever it is this is a good reliable and reasonably price watch. Fine craftsmanship.

This piece with sapphire crystal, ceramic and ETA 2824 movement is a steal in terms of its price.

I think we should put more emphasis on German style design than where is the headquarter of the watch company. The thread is intend on German watch which I think should be more toward design of the watch outer look and inner movement.

I'm sorry but some watch here doesn't suit the above criteria. They are more like copies of Rolex sport watch. Case probably German made but dial, movement and bracelet are all Swiss even the design are Swiss.

Is a German watch just because of the trading company have an address in Germany?

Is Hainan Chicken rice a Singaporean dish?

All look a bit messy to be me.

We are here wanna learn and explore German watch but I think we need a more clearly define criteria before we all get confuse of what truly consider a German watch.

I apologize advance if my post upset and anyone.

Best
Tyler

But what exactly is "German style design"? And in addition, are you referring to the dials, hands, date display or movements? Or strap?

Add: IMHO, we need not be too dogmatic about what's German and what's not German. As long as there are some reasonably significant German elements / items in the watch I guess that should be OK. Let's be liberals...... With supply chains going regional and global it may be impossible to set any realistic benchmark. What if the German company making the watch with 100% German parts and German design (whatever that means) used Kurds and Turkish immigrants? The possibility is endless. Nazi Germany used to issue "Aryan Certificates" to prove one's Germanic ethnic roots. Of course that was discontinued after WWII. No need for MWF to revive it.

both PP and Lange are reliable watches, true to their reputations, but Lange has better finishing than PP. you won't go wrong with either but ultimately it's what attracts you most when you put the different models on your wrist.

Big enthusiast of A. Lange & Sohne. Here's the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase in yellow gold on my wrist. Photo was taken 2 weeks ago. Enjoy!

I used to work in Germany back in 2006 for a couple of years and to commemorate my time there, obviously I had to purchase a German watch. Not having sufficient funds for a Lange, I decided to purchase a Stowa Flieger ohne (without) Logo.

Stowa was celebrating their 80th anniversary back in 2007 and I took the opportunity to purchase a Flieger Original 80th Anniversary Edition which was limited to 80 pieces, each individually numbered.

Fast forward 10 years and the watch is still with me. I recently purchase an olive green NATO strap to replace the original brown leather strap and I must say that it has revitalized the watch's looks. I'm wearing it much more often now and it goes really well with jeans or casual wear.

This watch is definitely a keeper for me, as I love the legibility and sheer purity of the dial without any logo. Lume is also amazingly bright and since it's powered by a simple ETA 2824, servicing shouldn't be a problem for me in Malaysia. I also appreciate the fact that Stowa was one of the original suppliers of B-Uhrens to the German air force so it does have quite a lot of heritage going for the brand.

Thanks for reading!

Not exactly a wristshot but wanted to share this beauty I had the joy of trying on at a boutique.

Grail watch anyone?
