Supprisingly not many ppl post some gd food in Mwf...
Let me start with this old KL food...
Toong Kwoon Chye dry noodle, jln Bkt bintang
(http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o210/yenfoolun/eff95e65.jpg)
this coffee shop is the most original around this area...
The noodle still the same taste...
The Teh C is still same old taste... Smooth n sweet
-
I didn;t know there is a good dry noodle in BB. Where exactly is it? Any landmark?
-
wah.. looks very small portion, I think i need 2 plates to fill up my stomach! :P
-
Next to federal hotel..., opposite the old cinema... Close to jln pudu...
Yeap... Double noodle is jus enough!
-
Oh that 1. I used to eat then when I was in my teens :)
-
Talking about food in KL, how many of you went to the basement in Lot 10? Most of the famous food stores in Klang Valley are supposed to be there. I was there few weeks ago and there are a lot of choices but the place is like mad house and too crowded.
-
I miss the fried kuey tiao at tengkat tong shin, parallel to jalan alor, opposite the corner hotel. I think now it has been converted into a 7-11 or korean restaurant :( Not sure where the guy moved to or if he retired (which I heard). Hands-down the best fried kuey tiao I had in Malaysia :(
-
Well.. fried keoy teow must be from Penang! haha... normally when alking about it, ppl will refer to Penang keoy teow. Guess... averagely, Penang keoy teow is much better than other parts in Malaysia.
-
I go to OUG for my fried kuey teow fix...I forgot the coffee shop name but it's the one opposite the wet market, same row as Caring Pharmacy...it's the one directly opposite the coffee shop (there are like 10 coffee shops in OUG) where the famous pork noodle is.
-
Oh... tat pork noodle shop... i like the pork noodle there but wait like forever :)

I guess I'm the strange one out, lol. I've been to the lorong selamat and sisters frid kuey tiaw, and aside from the large prawns, I didn't particularly enjoy it, though I did set my standards high, seeing that it was Penang. The fried kuey tiaw I ate at tengkat tung shin was definitely better than those two. Again, since I'm the lone ranger in this comment, I guess I'm the strange one, ahhaha. In the end, choices are great :D
-
Kinson
You are not alone.
That Pg , Lrg Selamat - Sister char keow teow is ever popular to extreme that she (one wearing goggle) will scold customer/s when ever she feel like it.
Once my friends and I waited for for than 45 mins for our chow. The golden rule is that you must secure a table first to order your ckt.
I believe she is well known all over...

The Seremban beef noddle is just divine!
for the best, it's in the second floor of Seremban market.
It's a test on a person's resilience - you gotta past through the vege seller, the fish monger, and the butcher.......then you will arrive at this second floor food court, just follow your nostril, it never goes wrong. I think there's only one beef noddle stall there. cant remember now, it's been 3 years since I was there......I always make it a point to go there when I visit my grandma. ;)
you cannot get this type of beef noddle anywhere else in Malaysia, Singapore or the world. it is a uniquely Seremban cuisine. and I love it!
It's perfect, seremban is only a couple hours from KL, drive down there to have lunch, then buy some seremban char siew pau and egg tarts for desert! hehe

OMG Kinson! I'm so with you on this one. Hands down da BEST CKT in Malaysia! I used to eat there every morning many years ago until I started working in PJ. Then one day pass by saw it was gone!
The CKT in Penang is good too but don't even come close to tengkat tong shin.

Oh, you must mean the corner shop at the end then, that one also very nice, but the pork noodles at the kuay tiaw store next to the mamak is more "sinful". My mom and me always order an extra bowl of just liver. The soup is awesome, hahah :D I used to live at the street in front of you when you come out of the parking for 15 years, haha. Grew up eating there.

Woot! First time I've had a kaki for this, ahahha. I actually have a photo of his kuay tiaw somewhere, dunno where I put it already. I noticed the guy moved out first, and the replacement kuay tiao stall said he retired (dunno true or not), then now it's gone.. *sniff. The fried pork lard he used to put in was probably the magic ingredient, lol. But I this the fire was hot enough. feeling sad now, hahaha.
I think my current replacement kuay tiaw is the corner coffee shop at damansara kim or at OnS Seapark. It's not as good, but the best I can find at the moment.

If you are saying this YTF place is at around usj 14 - along a single storey row of shop lot, just behind petronas??
Then it is very near to my place of residence. Used to have it for dinner.....
Note; margaret YTF - usj do not serve fried sui kow..
dc
-
hi dc,
it shifted looooong time ago ;D
It is now the shop row along the traffic light to USJ Honda Showroom.
No fried siu kau, but a lot of new things eg: pork nuckle in black vinegar, yellow wine chick, tau kan, no flour yee peng.. drool
hey this make me hungry liao ;D ;D

Ok, let's see if I can still remember the places!
This being klang, I have to mention bah kut teh! :)
Bah Kut Teh- No claypot bullshit.....I actually prefer the ones in bowl. the best one is near the KTM station, under the bridge. they start selling at 6 in the morning!
Banana Leaf rice - again, its near the KTM station, this kopitiam is a local legend, its tiny, and they only sell banana leaf rice (run by an old indian uncle), but then the people that owns the kopitiam and subsequently sells drinks are chinese! even the old "chinese sign board" on top of the entrance is chinese.
Mi Hun Ger- Taman Berkeley, opposite the old cinema, next to a chinese temple if i'm not mistaken (long queue during lunch)
Hailam chicken rice- This is my absolute favourite!!!! If I'm back home, I will be there daily ;D! the rice is aromatic, the chicken tender, and the chili sauce....to die for!!!But the portion is small, and the price is the highest in klang (my dad hates it ha)! but this family that runs this place doesn't have the arrogance normally associated with famous stores. ok, location. Its in Taman Eng Ann, its a corner kopitiam (dirty nonetheless) and opposite a primary school. Next door is a stationary store I think.....not been there for 3 years :'(
Claypot chicken rice - cooked over coal, not gas! Taman Eng Ann, I think the name of the place is Restaurant 99.
Best coffee- Cheong Fatt kopitiam. You can get the traditional eggs and toast with coffee ....mmm. they also have some stores that do good char kuey teoy, curry noddles, and yoong tau fu.
and tons more I can't remember......but I will ask my mom for more! ;D

Oh, add in my favorite pork ball noodle in Cheras. Not sure the exactly name of street, but it's on your right when you head towards the MRR2 from Kg. Pandan roundabout. The restaurant name is Sang Kee (if I remember properly). Opposite the fruit stall. The soup is unique and the fried pork skin (I think that's what it is) is yummy! Mornings only I think. :Jumping:

Yeah, you'll pass by maluri. If you keep going, you'll pass a school on your left, then an esso petrol kiosk on your left, keep going. You'll see a prominent fruit "stall" on your left, quite big, lots of fruits, got seating for durians (which are nice too), and it's directly opposite this fruit stall. You can actually sit there eating durians and see the coffee shop (it's a corner lot). The fruit stall is facing a big block of shoplots.
I found a site that has picutures: http://foodbin.blogspot.com/2009/09/restoran-sang-kee-pork-balls-noodle.html
There is a sekinchan fishhead somewhere in there also, different shop, very nice. The sauce is nice and tangy, slightly expensive.

Broleo,
Subang pork noodle s15 still open?
I thought close shop already...
The 40minute-wait one? I went there recently for the first time, since folks kept telling me about it. Strange, I studied at INTI for 3-years and never heard about it, lol. Didn't feel like anything too fantastic to me, but maybe I'll give it another try since I'm in the area quite often now.
-
yup thats the one

chris,
I was there about a month ago and its still there.

Not bcoz the taste of the food but bcoz
1. My grandpa came from dapu, this noodle

2. The lao chu bun is made of rice with hand, u taste the rice when u chew it, the texture is hard n sticky instead of the more smooth n q like the factory made
3. Seller still use the teo chew fish sauce fried mince pork flavor the noodle instead of sweet dark soy sauce n ,oyster sauce my grandpa home town taste

5. Today if the shop close, i dun think i can find handmake rice lou she fun...
things different from the hometown is it serve with char siew n wantan... Original one serve only noodle or some can order extra pork/beef ball... Those hand crush with steel stick crunchy meat ball

White pomfret beehun soup today
(http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o210/yenfoolun/772cda00.jpg)
this restaurant in maluri...
My favourite in tmn muda
compare with the famous segambut seafood noodle
the tmn muda strike a very balance flavour... Soup enhance with little sourness n milk...
Segambut type of cooking spoil the seafood fresh taste
this one very very teo chew style, clear soup but guaranttee fresh seafood...

Looks, good. Which part of Maluri is this? I used to go to that corner shop diagonally off Hotel Maluri. Day time sells this noodle, night time sells steamboat. If not I go to Ah Kong/Gong in Pudu. I'm open to trying new ones, hehe. It's about RM12-15 with the added fish?

Yeah, he has a bit of a temper, hehe. But one of the rare places that I put up with the snobbishness. I normally boycott lansi places after one visit unless the food is good enough to justify the arrogance. Like what I call the "lan si chicken rice" in section 17 PJ. Lan si but taste normal, lol. Blacklisted :p

The last I went was about 2 years ago and heard their LOTR is not so good as before.
However, their German Roast duck is a sensation but only available on certain days!!!
I had never tasted such good ones elsewhere.
-
@Pisces: Nice. I'll give it a test drive next month :D

I think you better call them first for the availability of the roast duck before you go.

Guys, I think I found the fried kuey tiaw from Tengkat Tung Shin. Not sure if it's just as good, though. The fried kuey tiaw in the picture looks a little wet and not enough "fire", but hopefully I'm wrong. I'll try and go this week.

Hope it's as good as before :Praying:
-
I had the "hokkien char" at Taman Paramount, so called the famous one in PJ last week, but to my disappointment, the Hokkien noddle taste horrible, the standard has dropped  I went there with high expectation, but disappointment also high...
So, this shop is out of my list :HammerHead:

where in PJ is this one? The best one Hokkien Noodle IMHO is at Ah Wa near Jalan 222 (next to Shell). The OnS Hokkien Noodle changed guy already.
-
At Taman Paramount, just opposite of the Caltex gas station, I will try yr suggested place, is it the best in PJ??

Yeah, that's O&S, the guy moved already, so it's not the same guy anymore.
You should try Ah Wa near the Shell. It's 5 mins drive from there.
I found a link: http://christinelifeslikethis.blogspot.com/2010/01/ahwa-hokkien-mee-off-jalan-222-pj.html
Good luck :)
-
Sorry to say this but i swore to myself never going to Ah Wa ever again. :-\
The entire coffee shop is really overpriced IMO.
Story goes like this, one weekend i was there with Chris.
Maybe prices have gone up but i feel the prices of even the stall there is expensive for PJ standards.
1- Simple fruit rojak small size, RM6 or was it RM7?
2- Grilled stingray Chris went and asked the price for a bloody small piece rm25 where other places max charge rm15-rm18.
Now comes the worst, i ordered 1pax portion for hokkien mee and canton "yin yong".
Canton fried came less than 5mins which was weird since other tables food still not arrive and we came latest.
Never mind but it looks to be just flat noodle and no bee hon inside. Which means they gave me wrong order, i send it back.
Fella came back saying yes that is yin yong, i said where is the bee hon trying to dig for it....KNS there was like ONE spoon max of bee hon inside only and that fella dare to insist that is ying yong !!!
Chris figured they have "leftovers" from a previous batch and gave that to us. Food wasnt hot also, KNS Chris said just leave it.
The portion even a kid cant get full!
Then comes the hokkien mee after a long time, when it came, guess what, its 2 person portion instead of the 1pax i ordered, we left it cause we hungry.
Only good thing that came out of this was the hokkien mee was good but the so called yin yong was pedestrian.
I CANNOT stand service and to me dishonesty of the stall like this.
Sorry i can still get good hokkien mee elsewhere. Aint going back to Ah Wa anymore unless i dont have to pay for it.
Sorry to go on like this....Chris knows how pissed i was then :P
-
@takashi78:
*Comforts. I know how you'd feel. I'm especially particular about customer service, and I'd do the same if I were treated like that too. Touch wood I haven't been treated like that, so hopefully it stays that way, hehe. I admit they're quite expensive nowadays, which is why I go there less nowadays. I like the taufoo bakar (though nothing special), hehe.
In the end, the best way to protest bad food/customer service is with our wallets, and we should do just that :)
-
hmm..let me try that over this week, and see how is the services. Did you guys wear nice or like ah Beng when you dine there???
-
It's a normal coffee shop, so you can just go in your bata slippers if you want. Let me know if advance if you want company, I live around the corner, lol.
-
Its a coffee shop, i aint wearing my Armani and Hermes shoes and cashmere tshirt there LOL.
The one i cant stand is them giving us the "leftovers" and INSIST that its what we ordered but it only had 5% bee hon instead of at least half half like it should be.
-

-
yea.. screw those bad attitude hawkers :)
-
yea.. screw those bad attitude hawkers :)
Agreed. I recently had a bad experience at the SS14 fried chicken rice. The owner of the stall itself was nice, but the uncle selling the drinks wasn't happy that I didn't order a drink and asked him to wipe the table for me (the previous person's plate etc was still there). It's not like I didn't buy anything also, but he wasn't happy, then later I could see him complaining to another staff, and when I asked him what was wrong, he pointed to the table he was standing next to and said "this table not clean meh?" and a lot of other nonesense in a very confrontational way. The thing is that the table he was at was occupied when I was looking for a table to sit at, lol. After that he walked away and continued glaring at me, ahhaa. Malaysia FTW.
-
If you dont like the place, just walk away, then the waiter or owner will come forward, then express yr dissatisfaction to them, let them know. I did that for sometime, and best part, sometime they dont bother at all, especially the mamak, after makan, ask the Boss to kira, they dont response, then we walk away :Laughing_on_floor:

Empurau is the most expensive fresh water fish so far....
this fish living in the sarawak big river, because of their food is a type of fruit that growth along the river....
hence, the this empurau have a unique taste
but now due to a Local manage to rare this..... so the price from his farm catch selling around RM1k++ /kg in restaurant
the wild catch still fetching crazy price.... > RM2k / kg
i admired my ex colleague who work at the Bakun dam..... they use to hunt for this and bring this back to peninsular some times.....

Well, you'll be surprised if you check out the wanton noodle in Ming Tien coffee shop behind the Public bank in Bandar Sunway. There's this Balinese couple that serves this dish with lard. Thumbs up all the way and the price is VERY reasonable as well. The only drawback to the dish is that it comes without the mushroom but the decent helping of Chinese roast pork should make up for the deficiency !
-
I go to OUG for my fried kuey teow fix...I forgot the coffee shop name but it's the one opposite the wet market, same row as Caring Pharmacy...it's the one directly opposite the coffee shop (there are like 10 coffee shops in OUG) where the famous pork noodle is.
How about checking out some of the fried koay teow in PJ huh ? There's this one in PJ SS2 hawker center (there are umpteenth stalls there) at the far end from the famous ABC on your left. Check out this guy with a wrist band on his right hand as he fries the koay teow. You won't be disappointed with the taste and the DECENT size prawns he throws in together with other embellishments. I mean if you notice the difference in the size of his right forearm and his left forearm then you will conclude that his business is brisk as his right hand is always busy stirring the koay teow ! :Laughing_on_floor:

My banana leaf fix @ Nirvana, Bangsar
Some outlets use artificial banana leaf .Tho the quality of the food remains the same ,somehow psychologically it does not taste quite the same.Nirvana always packed to the rafters

Really? I've yet to come across this, does that mean it is recyclable?
I can imagine that it would be no different from eating on a plate. The leaf emits a certain fragrant that makes it special.
Doesn't quite makes sense as a banana plant would need to be cut down anyway after its short lifespan. Not to say that it's any more sustainable.

It's amazing how you guys/gals have the patience to take a picture first. I usually only remember after it is gone....

Sidestreaker: Really nice food there.

Nowadays, always when the food come, those youngsters will whip out their smartphones and say " Wait! Wait!, take pictures first.." Aiya, i'll say. >:(

Holiday coming, so food hunting time again!!
Recommended by a foodie friend, Han Lim Seafood restaurant in Taman Midah Cheras selling fresh, delicious and reasonably priced seafood.
The concept of Han Lim is like wet market x restaurant, you pick the seafood (big big prawns, live crabs, sea fishes, clams, sotong etc from the stalls (which cut of the fish you want also can choose) and tell them how you like it to be cooked.
Already been there twice since I knew about the place 3 weeks ago, highly recommended.  But for sure can't compete with those in KK like in Chris's photos.
Don't think is Halal though.

Just tried Han Lim seafood recently. Food was good but the chili sauce was extremely disappointing. Could have provided some "sang har chili sauce". Instead what they had was....sigh forgettable. Maybe kg koh would have done a better job.

I'm an Indian foodie so will recommend two good places for banana leaf rice to die for
1) Curry Leaves - Authentic Indian cuisine with a wide range of dishes. They have two branches. One in Jln. Rasah in Seremban and the other in Uptown. Their kitchen is very clean.
2) Aunty Manju's - New restaurant in TTDI next to Starbucks. The proprietors are foodies themselves so you can expect fresh delicious food out of the kitchen

guys can try on having the thai food at BBQ thai which located at OKR.. the food there is really nice
-
try newly opened Songkla authentic thai food at Bandar Puteri Puchong (beside Old Town Cafe)..
they are the 1st branch of the famous Songkla Thai restaurant at Rawang... (pork free)
Another really good thai food is same row as Hong Leong Bank Bdr Puteri Puchong (right beside Old
School cafe) .. i think the shop name is Pranakon (if i remember correctly... non halal)
-
I like the nasi lemak at sea park, it is not spicy and the price is very cheap. Rm5 can get egg and chicken with nasi lemak. You all should try. It is near to Maybank beside...
-
Yes the Nasi Lemak next to Maybank is good.
I also like the vegetarian stall at the corner. They have an array of veggie foods which are great and they make a nasty laksa noodle too . They open from 7 am to around 3 pm.
Try it.!
-
Best Vegetarian food would be the new Thai Vegetarian restaurant in Section 17 next to Decanter.
Try the green curry. It is authentic and it almost taste's like it is non vegetarian. Really good.
-
Talking about food in KL, how many of you went to the basement in Lot 10? Most of the famous food stores in Klang Valley are supposed to be there. I was there few weeks ago and there are a lot of choices but the place is like mad house and too crowded.
I am going there probably this Wednesday or Thursday to enjoy the food.
-
I know nothing about the city but I saw some really nice looking food in a Tv special featuring Old Dubai

Hi There,
saw this thread and thought of replying.
I love the chun kee tai bou min at jalan pasar, my all time favourite dried hakka noodles, and for beef noodles, my favourite stall is at taman kenanga in KL, nearby the kenanga wholesale city.
