Watch Magazines
« on: August 05, 2010, 03:13:57 PM »
Hi there! I would like to invest in some good timepieces and was wondering where can I read up more to find out more on watches. Can anybody give me some recommendations on any watch magazines that I should get hold of? My friends been telling me to get hold of WOW magazine.

wOW is noting but giant advert mag. If u read traditional Chinese text, go for HK, Taiwanese or Japanese Mags. For detailed information and description IMHO

You might as well spend more time in forums like this than buying through WOW.

Try Watchtime magazine or visit their online site. They have all the old articles which you can download. Other magazines you can look at includes WOW and Revolution. Other options is to visit watch forums like this one. Try blogs as well.

Agree and thats the reality of it- when advertising $$$ pay the bulk of the thick, glossy mag, u can't expect the editors/writers 2 b too critical or 2 cover those brands that don't advertise.
I hv learnt more thru forums like MWF and other overseas forum where like-minded WIS and sifus congregate.

To me forums are the best place to get info and HONEST opinion on watches.
Magazines i would say 80% is driven by ad money.

Pete, are you sure? hahaha... my DSSD is the BEST  ::)

i am one of those who bought a lot of magazine (English and Chinese even Japanese watch mag too) but in my opinion, like other too, the mag sometimes are too bias and they will "give face" to the brand and tell most of the good stuff only...

except one that i'm happy to read is the Spiral Watch Mag, it's a HK mag and hard to get in Msia.. usually i have my friend to buy it for me from HK coz she travel HK very frequent... i like about this Mag because it do a lot of comparison on watches head to head and a lot of test on the watches too, not so bias as compare to those Taiwan/US/UK based mag ;)

If you can read Jap, i will encourage you to get Jap's watch mag too... the Jap one are so professional and they very detail describe the watches..for example, they will compare the 116610 and 16610 in detail with a lot photo too... that's why even i can't read jap i still enjoy "reading" it :D Also, the jap mag sometimes do report on the used pieces market too...

Try the book store at KLCC (the one start with K) ;) a lot watch mag and books at the "art/hobbies collection" section ;)

Hope this help

I miss one point...

U was looking for magazine to tell u what watch to invest?

I think better forget bout investment!
But buy watch to wear better!

For investment, mayb u should look at analysis on auction...
Mayb try to get 'watch critics' in bilanguage
that may help

do agree with u on jap mags but sadly i couldn't understand a single word :HammerHead:
as a cheap jing,i always end up getting free mags in watch shop, but i think revolution is more like an ads than a mags :Scolding:
