What is really a Limited Edition?

I just got an IWC Limited Edition Portuguese this past weekend.  At first I was quite happy that I got a "rare" piece.  But on second thought, 1000 pieces seem to be quite a large number to me (even globally).  So what do you all feel about limited edition?  Is there a magic number associated to be truly considered rare piece?  I guess if x/5 to xx/50 are truly limited.  May be xx/100 too.  But like my AS is xxx/500.  Is it truly limited? 

So I think my IWC is not really limited in the strictest sense.

Not in any way.
To me anything over 10 pieces is not considered LE.
So i say to hell with Omega and their moonwatch LE which is in the thousands.
But i still like the moonwatch though hehe

LE is is LE lor, sa-LE not good enough so hav 2 make something 2 sell better lor

Yeap, nowadays too many le, slight changes on dial, engraving or hand color... Also become le

gd seller brand with great production like omega, oris... 3000 also call le

while some small brand like damasko, 5yrs also can't make 3000 watches!

Le is a strategy in marketing...

Rolex hv no le... So when it produce for special purpose, small add on printing on dial also become rare to it's collector

anyway, to own 1 in a thousand is special... Not easy to bump into same watch in ur life mayb... The world is big!
But bump into it's sibling... Same case same movement same.... The original serial production watch is possible...
Then u will feel at least u r different!

i have read somewhere that anything below 1000 pieces can be considered to be really limited. anything above it cannot be limited at all. but to me anything with a production limit that is stated beforehand is limited rather than production until discontinuation

That's why most Rolexes are hardly limited.  Imagine as a company it produces about 1 million pieces.  Some popular models must be in hundred thousand or a few hundred thousand!  It is just that there are still more people want them.

For me, any number of limited edition is consider a 'Limited Editon". Unless if it is a Special Edition...

personally i think 50 pieces only can consider LE...

LE is when u wear a US$100K watch....walk along jln bintang for half a day and see no one wearing the same watch....
