Another year have passed and I have managed to get myself invited again to the JLC Event held annually in conjuction with Cortina Watches at Kota Kinabalu.

Venue of choice this time around is La Vintage Bar and Grill at Wisma Kinsabina.
The place is totally new and have not had a grand opening yet.

Some vintage decor.

Nicely done desserts with the JLC Logo.

Healthy crowd.

Registration counter.
Handing out door gifts and Time Werke JLC Magazine.

Entertainment for the night.

After a brief speech by Cortina General Manager Mr.Jason Tham and JLC Asia Pacific MD Mr.Alexis Delaporte.
A video was shown on JLC manufacturing facility and JLC values.

Models joined in wearing the latest novelties.

My wife spotted something she liked in this cabinet.

It's the 2013 Reverso Dual Face in gold.

One side in Sunburst Guilloche Arabic.

The other side in Pink mother of pearl and 2 lines of diamonds on the case.
Very very beautiful.
Priced at rm72,000 retail.
There is also a stainless steel one with the same setup but different dial colour of Blue mother of pearl.
That one retails for rm36,000

Some Tourbillions and Ultra Thins.

The Tribute to Deepsea Alarm.
There was a time I was smitten by this watch.
That was like a year or two ago but never did see one in the metal.
Until now.
Nice watch. Priced at rm42,000
Unfortunately, my crosshair is already on something else.

Nothing much here except the Reverso Dual Face at the bottom left which is not in the picture.
Tried that out but doesn't sing.
Even my wife says it does not look good on me.
Last years novelty the Rendez Vous collection for the ladies is there too.

I am always attracted to the Reverso Squadra.
Maybe one day.

There are 2 novelties here.

The 1st one is the Deepsea Chronograph in Cermet (ceramic in JLC terms)
At 44mm... it does not wear huge at all... I am thoroughly surprised by that.
The retail price escapes me at the moment.

This one is the one I really like.
Dubbed the "game changer" and " a paradigm shift" in various watch publications and blogs.
It's the Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar shown in Gold and White gold.
Very impressive watch. Beautifully made.
Why a game changer? Because it actually comes in stainless steel as well!
The gold model goes for rm94,000
The white gold one is rm104,000
The stainless steel is the boutique only model and the retail price is around rm60,000!!
That's a Perpetual Calendar!!
I was busy trying it on and did not manage to take a picture, but it feels really really good on the wrist.
Between the Gold and the White Gold, the gold one is nicer as the off white dial provides the watch with a little more character.

Went home happy and worried at the same time.
Why? Because when I woke up this morning, my wife told me that she dreamt about the Gold Reverso Duetto.
Oh boy... I am in some deep trouble.

Oh yeah... the door gift.
It's a power bank.

hi hanz,
how many years has JLC has been having this event in KK?
AFAUK, is JLC widely accepted there yet by the WIS there?
Personal taste and preferences evolve over years, hopefully not 1 full circle otherwise it means we haven't learnt a single thing.

This is the 3rd year running.
Judging from the watches the attendees wear at this event, I would say JLC is alive and kicking in KK.  ;D
Some couples were wearing a pair of Reverso... a watch that can be identified with one look.
Some were wearing more high end pieces like Tourbillions and so on.
How I wish I can take a closer look.

Based on my own observations, attendees to this year's event as mostly wearing JLC.
Last year, I noticed all kinds of watches, not this year... I would say 70% were wearing JLCs... I am in the 30%... lol
I think these events do create awareness and push up sales.
Rich ppl have no qualms dropping a 50-100k on watches.
What matters is they look good in these events and fit in.
Wearing a JLC timepiece while chatting with the Asia Pacific MD does look the part.
I was wearing something else when talking to the MD, and it is kinda awkward for both of us actually. hahaha

I think it's a huge mistake.
As Mr.Sham pays cash for his purchases, he might have liked the 44mm Deep sea Chronograph cermet to deal on the spot...  ;D

Very nice event coverage, thank you very much for sharing.

So this event is for invited guests only? How do they create the shortlist? from previous customers?

Yes Bezelnut.
The event is by invitation only.
I would guess they contact their regular clients for RSVP.

Great report.

To me if i were to have one JLC only would definitely have to be a Reverso.

Have to be a discontinued one though as the newer 976 doesnt fit me well.
