Title: looking for a good watch repair shop
Post by: gapper on December 07, 2009, 05:51:07 PM
yo guys, long time no in  ;D

i'm presently looking for a good watch repair shop (who does good job on dial retouch, bracelet/case polishing, or.. glass fitting for swiss watch like omega, rolex)

have come across the following shop (will mask the shopname.. dun worry):
1. mxtik service (Summit USJ)
2. TxC (Amcorp mall)
3. Swxss Repair (Subang Parade)

i know some of you guys pretty close with no. 1, maybe can shed some lights on his service and charges. no. 3 will be my last option, cox i've been here before... not customer orientated and they are selling Lorex homage.

any recommendation other than these?  :Praying:

Hi Gapper

Of all the 3 shops u listed... 2 are gone case. Been to all 3 .

No.1 , quite lanc... im 25 this year... but an avid watch admirer .. maybe he thinks tht i dont have money to buy. Wear seiko or casio. Not his type of thing he want to repair. So customer service... talk from far... i ask 1 question , answer 1 question

No.3 , this watch repair shop advertise alot .. claim to be 'proffesional' . dont know how pro is he but give me some impression tht they are not pro... go into the shop.. u can see any watchmaking proper place to repair ur watch etc. I cant comment much about this shop cause i have never sent anything to them before.. more like a commercialised watch repair shop

No.2 , This is the best of all .. i spoken to the watchmaker many times... very proffesional and know what he is doing. Price wise is consider reasonable for the type or service & advice given.Sent a ladies rolex for service before , changed a glass before , changed battery & did ultrasonic wash . Wont publish the exact charges given here. Pm me if want to know .

hi johnjoux,

hmm... u r the 3rd person telling me the same thing for no 1. but heard he was with omega before doing his own business... naturally.. should be carried good knowledge on 'oh-my-god' watches.
look likes no 2 will be the best out of 3 then. :)

Re No.1 i have been inside 2 times before. Non of the times the owner even say hello. Just look at me when i come in and continue watch his vcd.

The shop at Amcorp mall i have tried them once, to change a batt on my G-Shock Frogman as alot of shop dont dare to touch it.
Took them almost 1hr to change!
Said wanna test for leaks and seals if its still good. The apprentice did it and after change the batt there was no display. But luckily the boss fixed it and it was ok.

Pardon my ignorant. What makes the Frogman hard to replace its batt ?

I am puzzled by that as well.
Most shops refuse to change because they say they dont sell it and therefore wont touch it.
And alot of shops say the size of the batt is diff and they dont stock it.

If i not wrong they use rechargable battery since most frogman are solar powered*

So it is not an ordinary battery. Thanks

Hmm.. tat leads to me to start a new topic on alternate power for watch.

no.3.... alot of branch right?

i still curse them....
advertise everyday! claim to use all genuine parts shop right?
but hire ppl with no watch knowledge to sit at counter....
ask you pay for quotation!
they just sub it to others to do...

just to share my bad experience...
they took my watch from bangsar village branch...
3 weeks later after i scolded them twice only they quoted me....
they said balance spring, balance and barrel spring to change.... rm550 1
i said ok... since this old watch has some sentimental value!

then waited for 3 months.... i called and scolded them for taking too long time...
watch back but power reserve only last 12 hours....
i sent it back again....
one and the half month again waited no news... i scolded them over the phone...
then wait for another few weeks.....
got my watch back... but they refuse to extend the warranty.... the 6 months warranty still start from 1st time i took the watch..
&**^%%$

right after the warranty over the barrel spring broke after slight force of winding!
i callled them... they refused  to replace because of warranty expired!

i sent it to a low profile watchmaker whom introduce by a watch fren...
he quoted me for replacing the genuine omega barrel spring for my genuine omega....
he told the previous shop used modified used old american watch barrel spring... thats why its easy to break and unstable!

i shoot photo of the modified and used part and email and call to the shop who cheated me !
but they deny everything !

so becareful !
the positive is i get to know my a new watchmaker who become my watch fren now!

so, would it be better to get manual winding or self winding watches rather than having hassle when comes to changing battery. But again we need to get our mechanical watches serviced. Normally i send them to AD that i usually buy from them where i find it more secure, what do you all think?

yenfoolun, sorry to hear your horrorable experience. Saw some of their brances in Bangsar Village and Great Eastern Mall, if am not mistaken. Their shop always empty

Time for us to look for the honest and professional watchmaker. Do share with us your watchmaker if possible.

Fred, not doubt sending back to AD will save a lot of hassle and on top of that, they do offer warranty after the service. However, some serive center here might not be so competent. They will send the watch back to Swisszerland if the damage is complicated, thus will prolong the time and higher cost (do correct me if am wrong)  :-\

Its like sending your car lets say honda to a official service center (which is more expensive) or you can send to a independent service center (is will be cheaper for sure)..

I am curious how those independent reapairer able to get the spare part for certain of watches like Lolex or omega as those part are usually only avalable at official service center?

Hi Gapper,

I just got back my Sub from RSC and complete overhaul cost around 850MYR, got some part changed too (i think few gears and crown)...

Is your RM2K included the bracelet?

I find the Rolex service is the cheapest so far... I once sent back a JLC and it cost me MYR1.5K++ and the time will not accurate...   :Scolding:

Myr850 it's complete service and some parts changed.. The polish is FOC I asked them not to do it for my Sub since it doesn't have much scratches and not ding.. Don't want to thinner the case but frequent polish... Further more, should leave some history behind :D

Rolex is consider less maintainance cost, but don't underestimate other brand.. Not to mention AP, PP VC etc...
I heard AP ROOS normal service cost 4K myr ... Really sweating!!!

They are located at 1st floor of Amcorp Mall, open 7 days a week.

Yes, Seiko, ETA, Rolex etc. As for vintage Seiko, the only problem is spare parts because Seiko has stopped supporting the vintage calibers.

Hi Takashi,
Sorry to hear about the lengthy battery change.
Like Chris said it was a mechanical watch with Unitas handwind caliber. I had the opportunity to deal directly with the boss, and he was very professional and forthcoming with the whole process. I would not hesitate to send another one of my watch to him again.

I actually spoke to the boss also when having my batt changed. But he let his apprentice do it.
When it was done the watch didnt have any display, so the boss personally checked it and fixed it, something about a pin not connecting.

I do love their selection of straps though. some are quite reasonably priced.

You can submit your watch for their inspection and quotation. However I understand that there's a minimum handling charge of RM60 in case you do not wish to proceed with the service after receiving the quotation. The handling charge is to compensate for the labour costs incurred to inspect your watch.

The boss told me he quite reluctant to service vintage watches as parts are hard to come by. Unless its big brands like Seiko and such.

How i feel is, unless the watch is over rm500 or has great sentimental value, not really worth to service if the fee is over rm150 to do so.

My personal opinion only.

When you buy watches from the seller, first you must buy the seller. Same thing goes to the repair. If a person tends to be paranoid, he / she will never achieve far. Learn to trust your source.

There is no fake lemania 5100 part...
Seldom fake part in watch industry actually...
Because it won't fit.

The after Market part for rolex watch crystal, hands, dial and some seiko popular model is common...

like sifu above said,
a gd watchmaker will won't cheat!
A no gd 1 will cheat...

Just like u go to a workshop to repair ur car, they simply say got problem n ask u change this n that!
N repair watch n watch parts is more expensive than car!

Be prepared to restore vintage with rare movement might cost you a bomb. Good luck man

I already plan to drop it to Bienne to restore the watch. But i dunno how is the procedure? Do i need to drop it at Swatch Group service center or drop at the Omega butik at starhill ( i know one of the staff there)

So the procedure is how?

Sent in the watch > wait for quote > say yes or no in order to proceed the next step > wait the watch to be repair & return > pay & get back the watch

Or is it another way round???? Do i need to pay for deposit or somekind of early payment?

This will go straight to Swiss if you send back to Swatch Group.

It will take longer time i guess. Yes, once they receive it, they will quote you a price and if you agreed, they will start fixing it.

If you don't, then i think they will still charge you for the shipping cost.

All in all, i think it will going to take a while to get it fix if you send back to Swatch Group. Looking at the watch condition, they might have several things change unless you specifically told them not to.

Alternatively, you can send to a trusted watchmatket in town. I guess you can PM Chris to find out more. He has a reliable watchmaker if you decided not to send back to Swatch.

CHeers!

If you want to send it back to Swiss for original restoration and a piece of mind, it might be cost a bomb.
http://www.omegawatches.com/customer-service/watch-repair/repair-prices
As per the listing, calibre 1045 is falls into category 4A which estimated cost of CHF820 excluding other incidental and shipping charges.
Like Scott said, maybe you should pass to a local trusted watchmaker to have a look for alternative.
Good luck mate.

Well to me you gotta pay to play.
Sending it back to Swiss will come back almost new and fresh, but at the end i'm sure it will cost you as much as the price of the watch.

:Scolding:

scott.

I actually sent my Rolex Submariner to RSC recently... the total time they took to service my watch was 3 months and the price charged was close to RM3K...

I asked what was changed and why so expensive... they kept saying the parts that are needed to be changed needed to be ordered from Switz... but till the day I collected the watch, they never explained what the parts were.

RSC has adjusted their service prices, normal service now cost MYR1.8K...

I think the service receipt should have mentioned what's has been done to your watch, no?

The service costs more in Bienne than wat swatch group charges according to the chart .I have a speedy 35th with OSC now and full service for my caliber 1861 is rm 1300.In Bienne I think it was a few hundred more if I rmbr correctly. To add salt to the wound, they said it was compulsory to change the hands which are in perfect condition and on top of that the balance wheel has broken coil springs and that has to be changed at a whopping rm1500.Damage,rm3035 :Blue:

Anyone knows how much a balance wheel set cost?

scott,
How come yr service at RSC so cheap?

If i were u... I would prefer to send the whole watch to binne to service when u ask for it.

At least those uncles and aunties at Bienne will know what are they doing and expect long waiting time yo. But is the watch perform well before u send to the service center?

Eh, the hands if i remember u can opt not to change, i dunno how the system work in swatch group service center.

Based on experience, when you send the watch to Swatch Service Centre, they will have a look at the watch and tell you if they can do it, locally. If they cannot do it, they will ask you if you want to send it back to Bienne. They do have a fixed price for the service and shipping is included in the quote. You will have to decide if it is worth it to send the watch. You can tell them what parts you want them to replace and what parts you do not want them to replace, but this have an impact on the service warranty. Be prepared to wait as it can take time to get the watch serviced. The last time my brother sent his Omega from the 40s it took Bienne 6 months to turn the watch around.

Other option is to go international. End of the day it comes down to the value of the watch and what it means to you.

As for RSC, I have not had much problems with them. They usually quote (my experience anyway, both in Malaysia and elsewhere) upfront what requires to be changed and the estimate cost of replacement. Along the way, if there are other parts that needs to be changed, they will call you to inform you of the cost. This is where the practice differs from RSC to RSC. Some RSC have what is called a fixed package pricing. They will quote upfront the cost of repair and a fixed service package. For parts that they have to change along the way, falls under this fixed package. Usually this price is about the cost of replacing the movement as the replacement cost for the other parts is already quoted, e.g. stem tube, winding stem, gaskets etc and the only 'surprise' left is the movement. This service package price is not very much, safe to say that it is about RMxxx (below a grand). Also you can tell them what you want to replace and what not to do with the watch, e.g. do not replace the dial of your red submariner or polish your vintage submariner reference 5512.

The RSC will also tell you if they can provide you with a service warranty, full or otherwise. For example I know that RSC Malaysia cannot provide full service warranty of the SeaDweller reference 1665 as the parts for the watch is very difficult to get. But this does not impact things like water resistance as they can change the gaskets etc, unless your case is damaged. It usually covers things like the bezel insert, dial or hands, more so if you insist to keep them original (tritium hour markers dial and hands).

There are other differences as well like the actual issuance of the service warranty certificate and if they give you the watch back in a Rolex service box or not.

Hobbit,

Well explained

In my case, its a simple matter of replacing the balance wheel and regular service.Other than the BW,all else fine. But having said that,I did see young looking technicians at OSC,so what's the experience level?.Will be taking the watch back from OSC and let watches of switzerland do it for much less.

Hi everyone,
I use to wear my 50 years old Titus automatic regularly. Very reliable never need any service until one day
the crown dropped off. It still run so i wore it without crown for a few years. Everytime i pass by a watch shop i
will ask if they can repair it usually answer no or can try. Dare not send to watchmaker bcos of cost.
Anyway i found a old shop in Semenyeh ( the half watchshop and half goldsmith type of shop). The watchsmith
older than my watch replaced the crown and lube. service it for less than Rm100. The watch is still ok but retired.
Just want to tell my story and aim for Junior member rank. ha ha!!

Most of the technicians (RSC or swatch group included) in Malaysia are mostly fill by young ppl unlike in US where there those "sifu" still working. I am sure there are not pro as their "senior technicians". That why i rather (in my opinion) let my watch be handled by very experience ppl like Omega Bienne (you can tell swatch group malaysia u want it to be serviced there) even though u gotta wait for quite sometime.

Well you can let "watches of Switzerland" to do the job but you gotta remember that:

-Do they have the know how to repair your watch PROPERLY without any after service problem
-Do they have acess to genuine parts
-Last of all, do you TRUST the person who will service your watch.

Try pm chrisyen, he know some few ppl who are well verse in watch repair. :)

KL is a small city, not many watchmaker.... most of them know each other...
some cari makan, some not even repairing the watch themselves, some really like watches, some will slaughter you....

swatch malaysia do hv senior watchmaker.... but when u send a complicated watch, it likely will send back to swiss
but if service a lemania 5100, eta 2824-2, 2801, 2892-a2, 2893... 6497 & 6498, all modern rolex, most seiko movement except modern grand seiko, citizen, valjoux 7750..... local watchmaker should be able to handle

polish case also got a few local specialist

refinish dial, we hv a specialist famous in asia

mineral crystal maker... the specialist is getting old... no replacement likely if he stop

relume dial... hmmm.... never find a good 1.... even i knew my regular can do well but he reluctant to do...
too time consuming.... n he never charge too high...
so better send oversea....

so depend on what watch u want to repair...

Hi,
Another watch shop story.  This time it happened today. I was at a watch repair shop in a shopping
mall ( mentioned by some of you before) and a young girl ( early 20s) walked in alone took out
2 watches to show to the boss. 1 rolex cellini solid gold with gold buckle and another solid gold omega
with gold buckle. Both watch look old design but mint cond. size about 34mm. The boss was very excited
abut the cellini even weigh it on his electronic weighing machine. The girl claimed they belonged
to her dad and the boss called him on his HP (he remarked to his worker he sounded too young).
Anyway he offered 2k for the rolex and rejected the omega. The girl accepted. I feel the Rolec
probably worth more than 10K. Can I get into trouble if I had offered to buy the omega from the girl?

Moral of the story. Watch repair shop probably make more money buying and selling watches
than repairing them. thats why they are cold to regular type of customers.

watchtime,
The girl has been had .Easily worth more than 8k-12k for an A serial Danaos model even tho the resale value sux for the cellini range..solid gold somemore. The girl probly needed the funds and the offer amt is pittance!!! >:(

I won't be surprised if the watch was stolen.... so the girl could care less, as long as she got ca$h for it... the watch shop owner should have been more careful; no papers, a "dad" who sounds young... or am I paranoid?

The shop probably cannot resist such a good deal but they did request copy of girl and 'dad' IC.
Old watch without receipt can accept lah.

I've just recently sent my Speedmaster reduced to Swatch Group for servicing. It costs me MYR1530 without any hidden costs. My problem was the watch running slow. They did a remarkably good job. What they did was replacing the sub-dial hands (compulsory), replaced the hesalite crystal(although they aren't any scratches on it), replaced the crown and both pushers(also still in perfect condition), the gasket BUT they replaced my whole movement because the claimed that my previous movement has suffered due to lack of servicing but I have to agree that this was the first time this watch had been serviced since 1998. After that, they told me that I have to service the watch on every 5 years interval. But nevertheless, I had received very good services from them. Recommended!!

I have some adverse feedback on shop #2. I visited them recently on a relatively minor problem. The owner was actually quite friendly and forthcoming with his suggestions, which is refreshing. However, when I got them to look into the minor problem that my watch had, they made it worse! In the end, they managed to fix the problem (somewhat) but I was charged quite a hefty fee for it. But the worse thing was that I discovered the AR coating on my watch was scratched when I got home.  >:(

Considering they are supposed to be a professional watch repair outfit, I am surprised my experience turned out this way. I was actually hoping that I could make them my regular go-to watchmaker.

Best bet is to send your watch back to the agent. Their technician have been trained. Just like every new car model launched, there will be training provided on the know-how, do and don't.

I was told when i send in my GP for service and claim the hands, that oversea principle are not sending some of the watch parts here, due to some of the parts was not replaced and sold to outside repair shops instead, and the mentioned parts was charged to the watch owners.
The problem is, when you send to Third party repair shop, you never know what kind of parts they replaced, looking at how difficult the original parts may come by or if the local agent will just sell the parts like off-the counter! Like how we buy our car spare-parts ! I certainly don't think so..  Obviously they will tell you its Original replacement parts until you find out later.
I once send my Sinn to Germany for claims and service, they return back with my faulty replaced parts. I don't think local shop will do that.

recently went to the no2 at the amcorp mall
wanted a change of hands for my watch
so got them to measure my hands, and fix a new set of hands in

unfortunately they measured the wrong hand length for me
hands are measured from the middle of the hole to the tip, eg. 9mm
they measured from tip to tip, told me 10mm
this resulted in the hands i ordered being too long

ordered hands damage rm 60
their "professional" service rm 80

paid for it, and then left

thoughout the whole thing, they just gave many excuses
how everything that they do is so hard and everything requires a lot of skill
instead of just getting on with it

anyways, wouldn't recommend

Bro, the only way to find out is to show them your watch and the problem. They will ask you to bring in the watch for their inspection even if you contact them over the phone. Not sure if they have access to Hamilton parts but if they do, they should be able to fix it. Don't hold your breath though, my experience with them haven't been great.

Bro, can give me the details and address for the watchmakers?  I got one IWC, battery leaking.

yenfoolun, sorry to hear your horrorable experience.

They will send the watch back to Swisszerland if the damage is complicated, thus will prolong the time and higher cost (do correct me if am wrong)  :-\

i now just go to 2 watchmaker i knew...
so pm me if u guys need to repair your watch...
because 2 of them from different part....
so i can solve most swatch group n richemont group  watches problems.....

Another noob question since its related to the usage ,.... but then does it mean that when we are not wearing our watch, we let it stop? .... do you we suppose to give it a shake shake so that the movement keep moving? I am asking this because i saw shops selling those auto winding mechanism to keep our automatic machines. Wouldn't that similar to daily user?

Following your guide, .... i need to send my Oris for long overdue service. Called them and was told full overhaul that include polishing is about RM580 (and i saw somebody posted that sending their Rolex for service for less than RM300) .... isn't that a rip-off from Oris?? Furthermore they say will have to check my crown to see whether the water proofing still intact and will cost another RM180 if need to change. .... Then i enquired about the hands, one set is RM100...... All in about RM860.  :Startled:

My guess is that generally cheaper items require more expensive replacement cost and vice versa.
Take for eg. a Proton car, the spare parts is much more expensive as compare with a Mercedes car.

I think the minimum charge for a Rolex service at the Rolex Service Centre is at least RM2,000...

Is the quote for your Oris service from the authorised service centre or third party watchmaker?

Rolex service for RM 300? must have been a very long time ago..

An Omega Co-Axial service costs between RM 1,000- RM 1,600 depending on whether its a simple 3 hand watch or a chrono.
Even TAG service is close to RM 1,000

Rolex service for just rm300?. Sad to say you been had..

Just an evaluation alone and not proceed to service after quoting takes rm200 plus.....

I was at the RSC recently.. minimum charges for servicing a Datejust is RM1950, includes free polish. If you only want to polish the Datejust, it's RM484. Servicing fees for SS sport watches (GMT IIc, Explorer 2, etc..) starts at RM2000 plus, and if polishing only, it's RM604. The servicing charges seem to work out out to around 10% of the current prices of the watches. But since the routine servicing is done once every few years, the charges should be acceptable. Not a cheap hobby, ya?  :o :o :o

300 is just for verify for your rolex if its authenticate, which they just see see and issue a cert/paper for you and throw in some freebie for you  ;D

Wow, servicing is really a bomb for mechanical pieces .... :o

Anyway, the quote for my Oris was from Oris Malaysia and come with a one year warranty after service. Judging from the response .... i'll be sending it soon because my watch seems to lose some time :P

I've been to the TxC shop in Amcorp Mall a few times although mostly just to browse about. But did ask them to change straps for a few of my watches once. The see-thau-poh (I think) was very friendly and fair.
I chose 1 strap which was close to RM200 and she took the watch in to change it after getting my consent to cut the strap to fit the lugs. But later came out to say not advisable to change the strap as the strap might not last long after being cut. Anonimo watch got different lugs.
Thot that was a very nice gesture. The fee for changing strap / punching holes was also ok at RM10 per watch.
Of course, this is just a simple service. Havent had any experience with the more complicated services.

I too visited that TxC shop in Amcorp Mall. Though they claim they're able to service all the high end Swiss watches and have quite a few pictures on the website, the fine print is worrisome plus I've yet to hear their work reputation.

Also, she said for a quote, they need one week (??) to inspect the watch and give a quotation. Why one week?

1 week ?

Mayb
1. After u go they send to real expert to check n quote ( this happen to the one in summit and the
One opened many counter in big shopping mall!
Meaning they r not watchmaker but shop owner
2. They doesn't feel comfortable let u see on the spot Opening UR watch...
3. They r real busy in delivering old orders...

But they did have a nice glass partition between the "customer" area and work area presumably so you can watch the watchmaker in action.

Yah thot that was nice. Gives some added visual confidence. I did see a couple of "apprentices" working inside. Maybe the boss was busy elsewhere. I remember reading about them on their website. Thot the experience of the boss was quite impressive.
Well, I suppose we'll learn from the word-of-mouth and continue to share our collective "customer experiences".

Rule of thumb on maintaning the watch is the more exp the watch the higher the service cost. That why i try if possible reduce quantity of the watch and focus on more quality (less is more)

If your watch is the one with alot of complication i would say teh $ in the bank are meant for full service when time comes  ;D

How true.. I was saying earlier about the cost of servicing a humble Rolex 16233 TT Datejust at the RSC recently. Total cost of service, including replacement of the dial and hands (which are spotted and slightly oxidised), sapphire crystal (some minor chippings at the edges), the caseback (showed some signs of corrosion - which if not replaced, RSC will not do a water-proofing test on the watch, and hence not warranted against water-proofing), and replacing the main oscillating weight (that showed signs of wear and tear, and hence might not keep accurate time under COSC stds, and no warranty for that) comes to about RM4,800.. :Startled:

The sweetener is that after the service, the watch carries a 2 year warranty, and the I got 2 stacks of "collectible" Rolex Angpow packets  ;D. This watch is probably a Tier-3, or at best low-end Tier-2 item. Imagine how much it would cost to do the same services for a PP, AP, JLC or a Lange!

3 of my JLCs have been serviced before by MJLC at Le Sentier Switzerland.

i) Reserve deMarche
ii)Reverso Grande GMT with PR/day-night/GMT/GMT diffrential/big date
iii) Master Control Master Moon with moonphase & annual calendar

The highest cost of service amongst the 3 to-date is abt RM 3,000.00

How long does the service took for your watches when it goes all the way to Switzerland. My vintage omega took around 3 month plus when it was sent to Omega Bienne for total overhaul

The local RSC's charges are probably a bit higher that those overseas. Bare servicing cost is RM1950, the cost of the new dial and hands (come together in a set) is RM1616, sapphire crystal is RM464, etc, etc.. The costs of service and original parts are like a major service and repair costs for a car.. only that for watches, it's done once in a few years!

need to repair my watch, went to a Swiss watch repair shop in 1montkiara, so unprofessional, seems like wanna cut my head with their price , quoted me before they know what is the movement, and force me to service as well. don't do part replacement only.

worst then a normal low profile watch shop.

will try check amcorp mall if free...

:Scolding:

scott.

Wow, that's a good price for RSC service, including parts.  I enquired at Swatch Group, KL for Omega service, and they quoted minimal RM1,470 for basic service without changing any parts.

Yah.. one of their "apprentices" managed to scratch the crystal on my watch when I sent it in for repair. Only found out when I got home.

On another occasion, when I was there, the "apprentice" was explaining to the customer how he managed to make the watch stop working altogether when the customer sent it the watch only to have it regulated. Needless to say, the customer was flabbergasted.  :o

Long list of terms and conditions when you send your watch in. Be careful what you are signing up for.  8)

Hmmm, sorry to hear of you experiences. I also dont have much confidence in the apprentices. Dont know what's their background and experiences.

Was there last weekend to ask for polishing charges. Lady boss said must leave the watch there to check for quotation. They cant give a range on the spot. Thought it's cumbersome - I just want a rough quote or range first. But nvm...  :Blue:

You guys think the price is reasonable? Newbie here. So need some good advise from you taikos.

Hi guys,

I found another repair shop from Lowyat forum:
WSG located in Berjaya Times Square 6th flr

Has anybody tried their service before? His price is yet to be known. Need to take my watch there.
Hate to experince all this delayed and sub-standard service I read in this forum.

Worst come to worst, I might just go for the watchmaker in Summit. I saw him repair watches when I paid him a visit.
Just that you guys don't recommend him. ...  :o

never sent your watch to number 3 shop. i used to sent my ulysse nardin watch. they charge me a boom price just for a small repair. service took months. after the repair, i realized the crown is not the original one just like before i sent to them. They do not admit that it was changed during the repair. after few times argue, they still dont want to change my crown back to original one. i suspect the mechanic took it. damn regret. never sent to this shop again. Send 2 Zodiacs for service and battery change.

Not sure if it's the same Summit repair shop as mentioned earlier.
The name given was Mxtik Service ... but the one I send to is Focus Time.

Which watch repairer tells you they don't know how to service your watch... very rarely. If you take to bigger shop, most likely they will send in to authorize distributor on your behalf. They don't want to take responsibility, in case its not done properly they can still refer back rather than giving excuses..

There is one shop 2 floors above the car park but is normally closed. Another is just above the car park, a corner lot and not very impressive looking. This was recommended to me by a good friend who had retired from the watch industry. The owner is an elderly gentlemen with decades of experience in watch repairs. He doesn't do much due to age but has the networking. I just sent a 50+ years Titus (Swiss not HK) and servicing is rm 150 excluding parts. A Rolex is rm600 (excl parts). The son called to inform replacement parts cost extra rm100 as some gears are worn out. Quite happy they can still get parts for a 50 year old watch.

I sent away my tag chrono caf1010 watch for a new battery fitting in July 2013 through Beverbrooks Jewellers the cost was £83,early in January 2014 the casting around the stop watch on the frame came away causing the hands to jam.I took the watch back the Beverbrooks who sent it back to Tag for it repairing because I feel that the problem has occurred from Tag replacing the Battery.Tag has replied say it not their fault and they can repair it at a cost of £400. Beverbrooks also say it nothing to do with them,Any Idea on the way forward .
