Other choices of Chronographs
« on: June 19, 2020, 06:47:51 PM »
I know I won't be getting a Daytona in this lifetime. Lol. What other good choices out there which are just as good so that I can start saving now.

Omega is in my list but which model do you like?

Other choices of Chronographs

Go off the beaten track. Get something less common. Watches are about how they make you feel when you wear them. Daytona, Omega speedmaster professional, Zenith El Primero etc...all famous and great watches...something a collection would compromise of...but...what about this?

And on a different strap

This is a Seagull 1963 from Tianjin China. A reissue of the watch worn by pilots of the red army back in the day. This is a 38mm case. Hand wound and 18mm lugs. Goes with a NATO, vintage leather, thick leather and anything else in between...not too expensive and really not a very common watch. Comfy and to my six and a half inch wrists, a perfect size...

Interesting. From where did you buy the watch?

Well, Philip Dufour went for Lange's Datograph, so you may want to consider that watch

Joking aside, the Hamilton Intra-Matic looks nice. And there's the tri-colour Zenith Chronomasters with their El Primero movement, which is somewhat of an icon

Yes, there are not so many reliable and durable chronograph movements in market nowadays.

Other than the above, the last one I can think of is Lemania Chronograph movement: calibre 5100.

Found some brands using this movement but very few Lemania watches... Understood they are more of manufacturer of movements?

Omega - a moonwatch because of the history. I personally prefer the sapphire sandwich, sporty look

Zenith - get a used El Primero at a good discount off RRP. Another watch with plenty of history, sporty look

JLC Master Chronograph  - another watch to get pre-owned at a good discount, dressy look

Rolex - get the 116523 or 116503 two tone models. Less money and you get some gold instead of just steel and ceramic

I think Omega's Speedmaster and Zenith's El Primero are great options for a chrono. If you are not particular with used watches, some tricolore can be had for pretty decent prices. Else, the speedy is staple and the many variants make great choices to choose from.

Breitling Navitimer 01 and Tudor Black Bay Chrono S&G are also appealing watches and good choices.

Stick to the moonwatch..

Hesalite https://www.omegawatches.com/watch-omega-speedmaster-moonwatch-professional-chronograph-42-mm-31130423001005

Sapphire https://www.omegawatches.com/watch-omega-speedmaster-moonwatch-professional-chronograph-42-mm-31130423001006

The problem with Omega is they milk the moon watch thing too much with all the different models and many "sides of the moon" models and limited editions.. all at highly inflated prices.

But sometimes, this is good. With many variants, you can choose different materials/ colours of dial, hands, straps, gold, stainless steel,...etc.
