This web site is terrible.

First I went into watches and now it looks like I am going into shoes. My wife does not like this web site at all :Blue:

Saw those, at first i thought thats an interesting shade.

But then again, i wonder....how long lasting can those "painted" leather be?
After much buffing and brushing...how much color will come out?

Dear all shoes sifu and master,

I'm totally new in the shoes world of man, all I know is only those common brand like Clarks, Rockport and etc.

I'm curious why nobody mentioned those designer brand like Gucci and Ferragamo? no good?

For easy understanding, as opposed to watches what shoes brand should I look into when choosing a good pair of shoes?

1) Patek or Lange = ?
2) JLC or AP = ?
3) Rolex = ?
4) Omega = ?
5) Tag = ?
6) Seiko = ?

I suppose those Hush Puppies fall into the category of Seiko?

Here's a quick guide .

1) Patek or Lange = John Lobb , Vass , Edward Green
2) JLC or AP = Crockett & Jones Handgrade
3) Rolex = Church
4) Omega = Cheaney
5) Tag = Not sure , probably 70% of the italian shoes
6) Seiko = maybe Zara?

Hush Puppies , Obermain etc seems like a mass produced OEM from China . They all look the same.

But then, where do you put other smaller bespoke makers?

Anyway we are too brainwashed by Americans and their craze for statistics. For me it's always a price to quality ratio.

Nothing spectacular but just picked up something bright for this years late summer.

I find these American made shoes are quite substantial and holds up well to the amount walking that I do. Trust me, when I say I walk, I do mean I walk a lot! On a bright summer day, I can walk for 12-15 hours fueled with caffeine and chicken over rice.

Nothing fancy, but so far holding up pretty well. Looks great with khakis, jeans and a linen jacket.

Sorry for the crappy phone photos.

Also picked up a box of colored laces to spruce up de old clogs.

AE is just further down on the same street towards union sq in SF.

On the opposite end, there's Cable Car Clothiers and also The Hound Clothiers. American trad haberdashers. Worth a visit.

On my last visit, saw a group of Japanese buying a few pair each in Aldens.

yeah ridgeway, the black and red stitching looks enticing too... figured that a rubber lined sole would last me till late autumn.

No more sneakers for me except canvas, Vans or Converse. they just do not last and me getting old.

Those Vass are beautiful. But how would it hold up with the usual mileage I clock up? I always wanted to get a pair of these Euro shoes. But somehow they looks too exquisite and dainty. Scared that it may not hold out as well as their counterparts across the pond.

what's ur take?

I am going towards the same direction as Terrence.

u don't need to wait till resole. the vibram or continental rubber layer is placed onto the leather sole.

All this shoe talk and Terrence AE wingtip that "are quite substantial and holds up well to the amount walking that I do. Trust me, when I say I walk, I do mean I walk a lot! On a bright summer day, I can walk for 12-15 hours fueled with caffeine and chicken over rice" have finally piqued my interests.
I have zero knowledge currently on high end shoes but will slowly learn.

1st question of the day is regarding the "last"
Say if company A have a 5-65 last, will company B have the same last as well?
Terrenceterrence "seriously, i think buying a watch for it's secondhand value is like getting married and thinking about divorce at the back of your mind."
