Which Watch has a good performance?
« on: June 13, 2010, 02:05:14 PM »
Nowadays people always pay more attention to the world famous watch brand like Rolex or Casio. But not every can afford it. So Shall we think about the Chinese Watch? As I known, The most famous Chinese Watch Brand is "Seagull Watch". Has anyone heart of it? Someone told me that the quality is perfect as well as other world famous brand, but the price is lower. So I'm thinking whether I buy one or not.
Here is the site sells Seagull Watch, If you are interested in it, you can visit and give me some advices. Thanks!

quality perfectly well?
some AD check their watches b4 they sell it to U.
if u get directly from SeaGull or in china small shops, U pay alot lower than that AD is selling but quality do vary. Chances of lemon also higher.

I think DC has had one Seagull watch before maybe he can chime in with some thoughts.
For sure Seagull is the most famous among the Chinese brand and the most reliable out of the bunch.
$ for $ i will say it again and again for myself nothing beats a Seiko=5.

There are not many shops selling 'budget seagull.Yes, the is one shop at Bangsar but then they selling the more'higher' end model. Take a look at the tourbillion and their price are not at the entry level.

Good and reliable movement and attractive price for a chronograph - if you can fine one now.
I had one with me some time back, but then the reflection on its dial and hands put me off. I sold it off without any losses.

AS the watch brand is a matter of individual choice, I would say that a good watch brand.

dc
I am almost a recovered watchaholic, but last checked shows only 70% recovered. How?

There is no perfect watch!
N seagull is far from being perfect!
How good is good? To me that's depend on

Price vs quality vs resale value

take a look at simple seiko 5
price less than rm200
quality is a tough watch for you to wear for few yrs at least!
If average age of a seiko 5 is 5 yrs
then it give u superb value!

U can easily sell ur seiko 5 at flea Market at rm50 n above!

So it is a good watch to me!

So if you repeat this questions on seagull

price? Yes it is lower than swiss

quality? It is lower than Swiss, the movement is a copy of Swiss n rusiA mostly
the finishing is far from good but better than non finish movement
the reliability/accuracy/.... Just not as gd as swiss due to qualitycontrol!

Resale value? Beside some chrono with st19 movement... The rest, sad to Say i wont buy! Will u?

So just my 1cent...

Quality is a little subjective. But as for perfect, unfortunately i have not seen a perfect quality watch. even high end watches for that matter cannot be perfect. it is quality control and consistency that matters. just my opinion :)

The watch brand is Jorg Gray. The model worn by Obama utilizes a Miyota chronograph movement. Apparently the watch is manufactured in China.
There's a previous post here about the watch.

I agreed. You like it, you buy it. Its a matter of choice... I still have my old Boy London which already 20 years old & still ticking.  :D

I also owned 2 chinese watches & still working since almost 3 years. Its a very cheap watches & I saw some replicas using it... & to my surprise some boutiques brand are using the same movement.  :-X

Now, I'm a little bit fussy when buying a watch (automatic) with complications because most of it using Chinese movement & sell it at higher price maybe because of the brand.... Just my 2 cents... ::)

entry level casio that costly?
Seagull at 100 rm or lower what kinda of quality we talking here.
Seiko5 is better buy. ulu brands like orient also not too expensive. today can find deals buy 1 get 1 free.
read some where some ppl paid 300rm for 2 watches, the other is a chrono.
