The Apple Watch Sport Edition Review
« on: December 14, 2015, 03:30:49 PM »
You guys must be thinking, a smartwatch on MWF?! But why not? It's more accurate than your run of the mill digital watch, it switches time zones automatically, it also has a world timer function, it has chronograph functions, and most importantly, it tells the time.

I just got my gold and midnight blue Apple watch yesterday and I'm still trying to set it up to my liking. My review will be purely based on the watch as a watch and not the software although I must say the software is one of the best I've come across in a smartwatch.

The watch comes in 4 different colours for the aluminium Sport edition - silver, space grey and the new gold and rose gold. I got the gold because it just looks one step ahead in terms of aesthetics and when paired with the midnight blue band, it looks super awesome.

The watch comes with a shorter band for smaller wrists and the straps are easily interchangeable although other Apple straps are very expensive. 3rd party ones are much cheaper although I cannot comment on the quality as I've not gotten any.

The watch is made of 7000 series aluminium, a type of proprietary aluminium that Apple constructed and claims to be stronger than usual aluminium but just as light. The watch can be programmed to be worn on the left or right wrist. The digital crown is located just above the shortcut button. The digital crown is well machined and cut, and the shortcut button feels solid, as with all of Apple's other products. The other side houses the speakers and mic (yes you can actually make phone calls with this watch ala dick tracy). The back of the watch houses a composite back with the heart rate sensors. There isn't any Apple logo on this watch except for a tiny one at the back.

The build quality is fantastic and the band is actually quite comfortable to wear for long hours. Battery life is quite okay and I've worn this watch for about 8 hours now and it is still at 72%. But expect to charge it every night. Charging it is easy as the included charger attaches to the composite back via magnets easily and the watch then doubles as a nightstand clock when it is laid on its side (crown up).

All in all, I quite like the watch for its quality but will it replace any of my mechanicals? Nope. This watch will be obsolete the moment version 2 is out in 2016 but my mechanicals are never obsolete. Otherwise, the Apple watch is comfortable, has good build quality (the stainless steel version is even better but it's not worth the asking price) and it tells the time. I apologise for the subpar photos but I hope some of them captured the details on the digital crown and I made sure the photos show the correct hue of the gold colour. It is subtle and not crass and 'uncle' looking  ::)

My Apple Watch says hi!

Very good review. I bought the watch when it was officially released in Switzerland on 26 June. I personally quite like the idea of a Smartwatch and the Apple Watch really delivers (much better than my Suunto watch).

Notwithstanding, the novelty doesn't last. I have only worn the watch for less than 10 times (mostly during the first week of purchase) and it has been sitting in the watch box most of the time during the past five months. I only took it out occasionally when I have friends coming over who are interested to play around with the watch. But, this is just me, i know one of my colleague, a German guy who wears his Stainless steel apple watch 90pct of the time!

enjoy your new toy!

Hello,
Would you happen to know where I can change the strap of the Apple Sport to a leather?
Not too sure where I can buy just the rounded steel lugs that holds the leather strap.

Cheers

To be honest , im not a fan. If its really a sport watch youre looking for, i would rather loon into Industry leaders like Garmin, suunto. Theyre specialised and have poured tonnes of funds into research and development. My 2 cents.

It all depends on the users' preference and taste at the end of the day. Buy what you like and wear what you like. Cheers.
