I do hope this year not a one way championship.... I not fan of mclaren but i do hope they can give Red Ball a run for thier money. Same thing applies to ferrari too.

I wondered how Kimi will do this time  ??? Love the way he ate ice cream when in malaysia after race stopped due to rain

Caterham was the first team to officially launch its 2012 contender last week.
Of course, there were critiques on the shape of its "nose" but apparently Mc Laren has avoided a "stepped-nose" design adopted by Caterham.

Yes, agreed with gigi on the "not a one way championship" comment.

Highlighted changes in 2012 F1 :

1) Williams will be using Renault engine for year 2012 - 2013.

2) At the November 2011 meeting of the Formula One Commission in Geneva, several teams were given permission to change their names, namely -
(i) Team Lotus will be known as Caterham F1 Team, reflecting team principal Tony Fernandes' purchase of Caterham Cars.
(ii) Lotus Renault GP will change its name to Lotus F1 Team, having been sponsored by Lotus Cars in 2011.
(iii) Virgin Racing will become Marussia F1 Team, following increased ownership of the team by Russian car manufacturer Marussia Motors.

3) 2007 World Drivers' Champion Kimi Räikkönen will return to the sport with the Lotus F1 Team after a two-year hiatus competing in the World Rally Championship.

Cannot wait for the curtain raiser in Down Under on 18/3/12.
Malaysian leg will be on 25/3/12.

Cheers and have a Good long weekend.

Ya, no Toyota in sight of F1 Racing.
But they took part in other races like rally and the endurance race which, IMO, is tougher than the F1 race but less glamorous. Toyota is making history by becoming the first manufacturer to build a motorsport team entirely around a hybrid powertrain to take part in the FIA World Endurance Championship which features eight races on four continents, including the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours.
Imagine a F1 car running for 24 hours. That is certainly extreme and tough.

Petrov replaces Trulli at Caterham
17 February 2012

Vitaly Petrov has secured a drive with Caterham for the upcoming F1 season, joining Heikki Kovalainen as Jarno Trulli is ousted from the sport. Along with Rubens Barrichello, this leaves two ex race winners on the sidelines in 2012.

At the end of 2011, Petrov was left out of a drive as Renault (now Lotus) replaced both he and Bruno Senna. Recently, the Russian had been waiting on a slow sponsor before making any announcements, although replacing Trulli had become likely.

“This is a very exciting day for me,” he comments. “I would like to thank Tony, Kamarudin Meranun and SM Nasarudin for giving me the chance to join a team that made its F1 debut at the same time as me and has grown from one of the new teams to a serious force for future honours.

"The passion and spirit that Tony (Fernandes, Team Principal and CEO) and the whole team have to keep moving forwards is infectious and I am honoured to be able to join them and play my part in helping the team mount a serious challenge to the teams ahead in 2012 and for many seasons to come.

“I have been training hard all winter and am ready to get back into the cockpit and go to work. From what I have seen already, our new car is another good step forward from 2011 and now I cannot wait to see how it feels when we get to Barcelona. I would also like to take this chance to thank all my fans and partners for their support and their patience.”

Team Principal and CEO Tony Fernandes explains the decision:

Jarno Trulli had competed in Formula 1 since 1997
Jarno Trulli had competed in Formula 1 since 1997

"We have reached agreement with Jarno to bring an end to our partnership with him, but he will always be part of our family. Now we want to integrate Vitaly as quickly as possible into the team and we will do everything we can to welcome him in, give him a car he can use to showcase his skills and keep up the rate of development that has seen us go from an empty factory with just four employees to a fully established Formula 1 team in just over two years."

Petrov scored a maiden F1 podium finish for Renault at last year’s Australian Grand Prix. Had he not secured a race deal, the Vyborg man was also in talks with Pirelli with regards to becoming the company's tyre tester. The Caterham line-up change is the team’s first since entering the sport, excluding the brief replacement of Trulli as Karun Chandhok raced in Germany last year.

I think this could be one of the most exciting pre-season.

The main attraction of the new car design focus mainly on the nose and the position of the exhaust and what do the team make out of it. ???

We are still waiting for HRT and Marusia to launch their car. But from 2011 design I think perhaps HRT dont have to come up with stepped nose design. Like McLaren, their design philosophy of the car for 2011 such that it have quite low front nose and overall chassis. Unless they totally revoked the strategy.Either way, doubt they could make any great headline.

Really cant wait for season to start.

IMHO - Mclaren have the sexiest design of all , whilst Lotus F1 have the nicest color scheme, next to it is Caterham

Anyway, perhaps Malaysia is among the top cash provider for F1 ???

Hardly. F1 rules changes every year. Nothing new.
Wait for the V6 1.6L Turbo engines. Now that is worth watching.

Grosjean quickest on disjointed second day

Romain Grosjean again finished on top after a dramatic day of winter testing at the Circuit de Catalunya. The Lotus driver headed the Friday timesheets from Jean-Éric Vergne and World Champion Sebastian Vettel, as the delayed session was interrupted by no less than eight separate red flag periods.

Echoing the words of Nico Rosberg from yesterday, conditions were ‘too good’ for the teams which were able to enjoy fantastic sunshine for almost all of the day. However, things looked very different early on as heavy fog delayed proceedings and meant the session would not start until half an hour later than it should have; as a result, the afternoon period was extended to half past five to cater for some of the lost time.

It was a bizarre day for stoppages, with Pastor Maldonado bringing out what was the second red flag as he stopped at Turn 6 just minutes after the session began. Six more separate pauses were to follow, excluding the customary lunch break, as Vergne, Vettel, Michael Schumacher and Nico Hülkenberg all stopped on-track. There was also a second interruption for Schumacher as the seven-time time winner went off into the gravel at Turn 5, plus a delay as marshals cleared debris from the second corner. As a result of the postponements, overall lap numbers were lower than usual.

Although Fernando Alonso set the fourth fastest time of the day, the Spaniard performed yet more straight-line aerodynamic testing past the pits. The F2012 could also be seen sliding in corners as – like Alonso yesterday – team-mate Felipe Massa watched from various points around the circuit. It was a low-key affair for Williams, with Bruno Senna taking over from Pastor Maldonado in the afternoon and the duo completing the classification.

Tyre ages and fuel loads remain as confidential as ever, but lap times closed up dramatically in the afternoon, with less than a second covering the top nine as the final hour commenced; the group in question was completed by Lewis Hamilton who, like several drivers on-track today, was enjoying his first track time of the week.

Raising several eyebrows was Lotus, as (like Toro Rosso's Vergne) Grosjean experienced his last day of running before the season-opening Australian Grand Prix. Despite the team’s suspension problem which ended last week’s test after just 20 miles of running, the Franco-Swiss delivered a string of consistent laps during his long afternoon run, setting the overall best time just over ten minutes before the final chequered flag.

Inside the top five was the Caterham of Heikki Kovalainen, who was back on-track after being taken ill with food poisoning and missing out on any running on Thursday. Marussia has not visited Barcelona after failing its final FIA crash test, whereas HRT is present at the track and pushing to debut its 2012 car at some point this weekend.

It was a wasout race in Sepang won by Alonso (Ferrari) followed by S Perez (Sauber--Ferrari) and Hamilton (Mercedes).
4th - 7th = Webber(Red Bull -Renault), "Ice Man" Raikonen(Lotus-Renault), B Senna (Williams-Renault) and P Di Resta (Force India-Mercedes)

Most exciting Bahrain race ever!
Lotus double podium!

Missed chance for Kimi and great that he is back on the podium again.
His comeback is much better than Michael.

To the critics out there....still think he is overrated? I think not.
Look at the amount of backing and having Brawn in Mercedes, took them so long.

It is good to see the Bahrain GP is a go after much bad publicity on what's happening in the country.

Congratulations to Vettel, "Iceman" Kimi and Roman Grosjean for taking the podium. Vettel finally won his first win in 2012 after 4 starts. Kimi was good, and I believe he is not over-rated as he still has that "winning instinct" coupled with a good car and a good back room team. I always believe if the driver is good but given an average car, he can only do so much limited by the car limitation (check out Schumacher in the Mercedes who started at no. 22 but finished 10th overall in Bahrain). If an average driver is given a good car, he also can reach certain level as he is either handicapped by his experience or the know-how to push more of his car (eg. Nico with his Mercedes who won in the M'sian GP but finished 5th in Bahrain). But if a good driver is given a good car, he can do wonders like what Vettel and Kimi has achieved in Bahrain.

Only one person can out drive an ordinary car, and that person is Alonso!
Look at how the Ferrari sucked thise 2 yrs. But yet he still can find some way to deliver a good drive.

Did anyone notice except for the main grandstand the camera didnt show audiences in other parts of the track?

Angry Birds Rocks!!

Hamilton won at Canadian GP to make it 7 different winners in 7 GP races and lead the Drivers standing. In 2nd place is Alonso followed by Vettel, Weber & Rosberg. Iceman Kimi is in 6th position.

Lotus did well in the constructors standing by being 3rd after Red Bull and McLaren-Mercedes.
Ferrari and Mercedes were in 4th and 5th position.

typical maldonado.....rather stupid i think....
and i think when he won a few races back, it doesnt do any good to him, it just boast his ego and he must be thinking that justify all his actions...

in my opinion he dont deserve a spot in F1....and his win is a bleak....
same goes with senna....and karthikeyen....all hopeless....

I dont see Maldonado crashing into many people.

Sorry but i think ALL F1 drivers have BIG egos! If not they would not have be here and most of them were former champions of a lower formula.

Maldonado was GP2 champ and so is Romain.
And i see Romain crashing more LOL !

But at least this turned out to be the best Valencia race of so far and this season is not the usual yawn fest.

Lets have more F1 discussion this thread is not moving fast enough haha

Just my personal view
Romain & Perez is at the same league, genuinely fast but being young they need to control their anxiety......

Maldonado is more reckless....he take everything as racing....He crashed with alonso at final lap in australia, where else he could score good points, he crashed with perez during practice session which really unnecessary as it is only practice...and recent race with hamilton, in my opinion, lewis is holding his line, maldonado is not even on track at a time, so he should really back off and attack later....

but just my opinion :)

ya la...memang banzai style....lucky no one get hurt badly

so what is your view on F1 this year, for me personally...i enjoyed at first, but now having doubt.....it is the tyre issue...

in fact, i have start thinking this could be pirelli conspiracy just to spice up the race, what if they supply different grade of tyre to different team, sort of every race weekend they actually give 10 or 20 % advantage to different team....that explain maldonado and nico's win....and button sudden flop....and their sudden opinion on schumi after schumi heavy criticism, they even think that schumi could win in monaco or something....owh i love this kind of conspiracies.....muahhahaha

back to reality....i hope kimi and romain would win ....soon.....

and who would have thought ...alonso and webber could lead the championship and ferrari would be able to make a come back after disastrous start....

The first 7 races provided 7 different winners then Alonso won the 8th(he won the 2nd too) and subsequently Webber also provides the doubles (6th & 9th) with the latest being Hamilton(7th & 11th).

Extracted from www.formula1.result :
1) Australia 18/03/2012 Jenson Button (McLaren-Mercedes)
2) Malaysia 25/03/2012 Fernando Alonso (Ferrari)
3) China 15/04/2012 Nico Rosberg (Mercedes)
4) Bahrain 22/04/2012 Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull Racing-Renault)
5) Spain 13/05/2012 Pastor Maldonado (Williams-Renault)
6) Monaco 27/05/2012 Mark Webber (Red Bull Racing-Renault)
7) Canada 10/06/2012 Lewis Hamilton (McLaren-Mercedes)
8) Europe 24/06/2012 Fernando Alonso (Ferrari)
9) Great Britain 08/07/2012 Mark Webber (Red Bull Racing-Renault)
10) Germany 22/07/2012 Fernando Alonso (Ferrari)
11) Hungary 29/07/2012 Lewis Hamilton (McLaren-Mercedes)

Next I believe is Belgium GP right? On 2/9. Then Italian GP should be on 9/9 with Singapore on 23/9. I think the break in August is to accomodate the  Olynpics.

b) Kubica? i wonder how is he now....has he fully recovered?
c) Andrian Sutil ??? i seriously doubt this....
d) Garry Paffet ...should be very interetsing

A- Out of F1
B- No way he can drive
C- Out of F1
D- With Mclaren
E- Why not?

Most logical choice would be Jerome D'ambrosio who is the Lotus official reserve driver.

Kimi would have catch up at least to 2nd or maybe better if the team had used the "double DRS" upgrade they had planned.

Sucks for Kamui though.

last time i raced in go kart, i had something similar, i snatch pole in qualifying, but racing time, i make mistake at start...too nervous thinking about possible win....then half lap later... i crashed, end up being last...never manage to catch up due to distance but afterward my lap time is quite good.......hahahhahahah

BIG news.

Hamilton to Mercedes for 3 year deal. Michael is out of the team.
Perez going to Mclaren replacing Hamy.

I wanna see how Hamilton will be a whinning brat when the car is not performing like this year.
Or maybe after 3 years of Michael's input Merc can finally fight for more podium?

Its official, Schumacher retires for the 2nd time from F1.
Really sad that even him and the mega budget of Merc cant give him a winning car.
Not even the dream pairing of Brawn & Schumacher.

Seriously no idea what to make off Romain anymore....he is good...BUT only after he survives the first few corners of the first lap.

FINALLY Kamui makes it to the podium and what better place than in Suzuka.
You hear all the people chanting his name.
But lucky for him, another 2-3 laps and Button for overtake him for sure.

Off course not.
Kimi wont give a rats ass LOL.

He was asked if he spent lot of time in the simulator since he hasnt drove the Korean track before.
He said he doesnt use the simulator most of the time. He just arrives and drives. 3hrs is more than enough to learn a new track.
THATS how good he is. Fanboy here....

But i still maintain, the best all round driver on the grid now is still Alonso.

When Grosjean does not crash in the first lap he can drive a good race.
I was so hoping Vettel's tire would burst like how his engineers is worrying about.
Not a boring race.
Still sad to see crowd attendance outside the main grandstand is soooo little.
Maybe the track is just too far away from any city. Almost 400km from Seoul.

Meanwhile at the stage nearby.

Start from pit and climb all the way back to 3rd!

2012 season is the best i have seen in the past 5yrs.
The best Abu Dhabi race ever.

I seriously LOL when Kimi went on the radio.

1- Race engineer updates him on his race status, Kimi: Leave me alone n shut it.
2- Race engineer during safety car period ask him to keep hear in the tires. Kimi: Yes yes yes what you think i am doing, stop reminding me, shut it.
3- Totally Kimi when on the podium. When asked how you feel after winning the race and 1st since your come back? Kimi: Meh...no feeling.

IF Hamilton can turn the Merc team around which Michael could not do in 3 yrs then it will make me respect him more.

I think if you put any other "good" driver in a Mclaren most will perform not too much off on what Hamilton can do.

As much as i like and support Kimi, Alonso still gets my vote for this years driver of the year and being the BEST all round driver on the grid.
Who else can pilot a turd of a Ferrari car this year to being in the position he is in right now?

Drivers instructed not to swear in interviews

Formula 1 drivers have received a collective telling off from the FIA after both Kimi Räikkönen and Sebastian Vettel swore during live podium interviews in Abu Dhabi. The sporting governing body has now sent out a letter to all teams.

Unlike in the many press calls and television interviews which are carried out over the course of a race weekend, the podium interviews – introduced from the British Grand Prix – are organised directly by the FIA and broadcast on the world feed. This means that all broadcasters, in all countries showing the ceremony, will receive them.

‘It is very much our collective responsibility to make sure drivers are aware such language has no place during media events,’ reads the letter, sent to the teams by Norman Howell, FIA Director of Communications, at the request of FIA President Jean Todt. ‘It shines an unwelcome beam of adverse publicity on their teams and sponsors, the sport and the FIA.

‘I understand that in the 'heat of battle' that adrenaline, elation and disappointment make for a dangerous and heady mix, but F1 drivers are not the only ones being interviewed in such conditions: I think of boxers, rugby and football players who are routinely interviewed live on television after a gruelling sporting effort. They manage to avoid inappropriate language.

Since it happened twice on the same weekend, I thought I'd send a friendly note. We need to remind the drivers they are professionals. If you're a racing driver at that level, you have to realise that part of your job description is to talk to the media, and to do so in a way that is acceptable.’

In the United Kingdom alone, the BBC received 22 calls about the swearing and a subsequent 30 calls for the delay in posting the show on iPlayer, which allows fans to watch the race back online; the editing process was delayed as the expletives were edited out.

“Well, knowing Kimi, I do believe he just said it…but Sebastian as well!” said former driver David Coulthard, BBC F1 pundit who conducted the interviews.

“There was a gentleman who organises everything and I heard his voice in my ear with the talkback. I could hear him going, ‘Oh no, he didn’t just say it!’ and then he went, ‘Oh no, again!’ So that’s why I felt it was appropriate to apologise on his behalf because, of course, there were many people around the world listening to that and the use of profanity is not acceptable in the public podium interviews.”

The result from the US Grand Prix, 1 - Hamilton, 2 - Vettel & 3 - Alonso.

Points standing

1. Vettel - 273
2. Alonso - 260
3. Raikonnen - 206

It is a 2 horse race to the finish at this weekend race at Sao Paulo. If Vettel DNF, Alonso will take the title. The odds favor Vettel.

No chance of him coming back to F1 anytime soon.
His hand has healed quite nicely.

VERY sad news.....to me at least la

Kamui Kobayashi has written a letter to his fans explaining that he will not be able to secure a competitive race seat for the 2013 campaign, leaving the Japanese driver to focus on a 2014 return. After being dropped by Sauber, the 26-year-old managed to raise more than 6 million pounds, but it is not enough to remain in Formula 1.

Kobayashi's full letter reads:

'To All the fans,

Thank you for the big support. I am very appreciative that many of you have donated and (are) trying to make (a) donation.

I must mention this, that since the donations started, it has become quite big news in Japan. And because of your big support, it gave huge influences to some Japanese companies and I started receiving good support from them.

And I was in the position to bring a budget of 8 million Euro at least. If you could imagine the time I had, it was (an) overwhelming reaction and it shows there still is a great potential from Japanese companies.

Unfortunately, the time was still short and I am not able to secure the seat with (a) competitive F1 team for 2013. I have to admit that it is very sad and (I) feel sorry for (the) fans and Japanese companies who supported me. But I am still confident to make it happen in 2014.

I would like to stop the donations for now and while I will save all the money for 2014, I (will) start to look (at) what is the best option for 2013 and also 2014. My main priority is to secure the competitive F1 seat in 2014.

I have no interests to race (in) any other categories.

I will make an announcement as soon as I make a decision for 2013.

So, please wait and (I'm) really looking forward (to) your support for (the) coming year.

All the best,

KAMUI KOBAYASHI'

If Honda & Toyota were still in F1, Kamui would most probably have a racing seat.
