I'm curious to whether people really pay for watch purchases by installment ?

I'm not sure about others, but I like the idea since it is Zero Interest and you don't need to chunk out a large sum of cash.

But the trick is make sure you pay on time every installment.

Ya, but you don't feel the pain of paying cash and your monthly cash flow shrinks every time you take up another installment plan

I prefer my monthly cash flow to shrink a little rather than shrink a chunk once off.

I like "killing me softly" than a "head shot"

of course I'm not asking people to take 10 installment plans at one time, choose based on your own financial liquidity

Personally, I prefer the one-go "head-shot" principle when it comes to luxury items especially watches. That way, you have to decide first if you really like it before jumping.

My opinion is installment plan will make us more discipline where we only make our next purchase after we complete the current installment. If we choose 12 months installment thats mean we only purchase new watch once a year. Still not to bad.

Yeah, if it is "zero interest" (like what the merchants are offering for camera, tv, moblie phone, etc.), then I will consider. But I get the funny feeling it is already included into the price.

Be careful when taking this easy installment plan. Although monthly commitment is low(e.g. RM1k/month), your credit report(e.g. CCRIS) will escalate to the full amount of purchase(e.g. RM12k).

This will effect your credit score and may prevent you to get new housing or car loans...

I like the zero percent installment plan. I can get the watch, use, but pay monthly. The balance money can be put in fixed deposit and still earn interest :)

Agreed, you can always maximize your payment by arrange your FD as below.
i.e bought a watch with 12 months installment
each months have to pay RM 2k.
you will earn more by
put 2k in 12 months tenure
put 2k in 9 months (after expired) + 2 months tenure
put 2k in 9 months (after expired) + 1 months tenure
put 2k in 9 months
put 2k in 6 months (after expired) + 2 months tenure
put 2k in 6 months (after expired) + 1 months tenure
put 2k in 6 months
put 2k in 3 months (after expired) + 2 months tenure
put 2k in 3 months (after expired) + 1 months tenure
put 2k in 3 months
put 2k in 2 months
put 2k in 1 months
