A. Lange & Söhne event in SG (KL boys travel to SG)
« on: March 04, 2013, 08:15:54 PM »
Last min invite by kiamat and didnt have to take leave so off we go to SG. Since a few members from SG is also able to join.
Not too good with official report so let the pics do the talking  :P

VERY warm and gracious welcome and service by the Lange team my hats off to them for a job well done.  ;D

Off to a good start  ;D

Coats were given, thought would have our name on it but sadly not the case  :'(

Start with some history of the brand

Now on to a few watchmakers who were flown in for this event only to show us how a Lange watch is made.

He does the assembly of the movements

Polishing

Now onto some hands on stuff we get to participate in.
First off we would need to polish a movement part.
Using different grade of sand paper and using figure of "8" direction to polish.
We manage to polish BUT not take out the scratches.

SIFU !

Now we move on to assembly.
Basically taking a screw out of the balance wheel and putting it back together.
Sounds easy but needs a steady hand.
I was surprised i could achieve it quite easily  :P
But concentrating using a loupe made me kinda dizzy.

PURE concentration wei  :o

See the screw? Nah too small la wei  :P

Had a break in between and waiting for Shark to come so we had some afternoon tea.
Ended up bump into Davidtth in an AD !

Finally had more time to look at the GS much closer and its back on its bracelet now.

This time we went back and had a nice chat with this young watchmaker.
VERY friendly person and he showed us part by part of a Lange-1 movement
Also the Datagraph.

One thing i found contradicting.
The speaker said a Lange movt is assembled twice, even on the first time the move is already finished and polished.
BUT the watchmaker said the 1st assembly the movement is not finished or polished yet, only when its the 2nd assembly the parts are finished and polished.

At this point each plate, bridge or part he took out, he tells us, this part is not visible through the case back, BUT its still fully hand polished to the highest standard.
We were all amazed, each time i was thinking, ok this might not be polished since its so hidden but damn it was !
RESPECT !
Now you know where your money goes to.
A Lange watch from start to finish? Takes about 7-12 months on average.

His job is to polish, but he reminds me of a Hells Angel biker and was a serious dude, we did not chat with him much  ;D

She does the engraving, dare not disturb her as she was concentrating hard on the microscope.
When you order a new Lange you can have your initials engraved at no extra cost.

At this point Shark finishes his guided tour and have hands on

At last i will leave you with this tonight.
I am sleepy now posting so many  ;D

Great report Peter.
Thanks for sharing.

I must say you guys look really good in the lab coat.
Anyone seriously considering a career change to a watch maker after this interesting experience?

Some poison work instantaneously...
Others slowly but surely.....
I think its more of the later.
