beautiful!
Rolex did it again! Marginal increase in size and using Ceramic, it sets the new standards and increase the demand for not only sub but also deepsea and GMT.

Google Ceramic and we shall learn to appreciate the versatility and strength of the material.

Congrats to you, wear it in good health!

Maybe in future, someday somewhere, they will make watches w balancing ions, ie reduce the body acidity w alkalinity!!

I'm a bit lost. Which one is older?

The 1680 or

the 14060 (what I can see of the pic) but there's no metal circle on the hour index.  Hence I'm not sure whether it is a 14060.

Regards
Tyler

Cheers guys.

The 1680 is older than the 14060. The white gold on the hour marker were introduced during the mid 80s. So I guess this 1680 is an early one. The 14060 was born on 1989.

Cheers

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. -John Lennon

I believe Tyler's question is he can't see the white gold surround on your 14060M COSC.
I think is due to your black and white picture.

Oh i see. Sorry I misunderstood Tyler's question.  :-X
Yeah I think it's the black and white contrast. I agree its quite hard to see the markings from the pic.

No need to apologize. You are right.

I set the camera with an aperature to focus on the 1680 and thus the white gold surrounds on the 14060 is hard to see.

So to answer the question as u have for me, the 1680 is indeed the much older watch.

So the younger brother is a 14060M I presume because a COSC 14060 doesn't exist.

Anyway back to the point. Good to see someone appreciate the vintage stuff.

Ever thinking of switching the 1680 to Nato? It looks great  ;D

Tyler

Godzillaz: again u are right. However a 5512 is cosc not?

Nato straps are abound and yes i have some. Will post up some shortly.

The 1680 is sweet cos historically its the first sub with a cyclops. And.....to reiterate, do u know how rolex came abt with cyclops date?

Not all 5512 are COSC. Early 5512 were not.

As for the cyclops, I believe Rolex first introduced it in he 50s. How they came about it, I don't know. I do know that the cyclops were an option in early GMT Masters.

Well. That's why I said I am abit lost initially becasue if it's 5512 then the 1680 is the younger ones here.  :D

Thanks MrHobbit. . . It's a four liner so it can only mean.....ah well, perhaps my question was too general.  Thanks for the historical reiteration that the cyclops was made as an option for the GMT.

Nonetheless, It's about the sharing and I'm sure I can learn from this local forum.

I love the old vintage dial especially the matte dial with non metal marker. 1680, 1655, 5512 and 5513 are simply gorgeoues, you have a nice collection there. It is getting harder to find now, especially fully original dial untouched. I will love to own one 1655, just love the superdome crystal glass.

Hi fellow watch enthusiasts.  Sorry havent been in the forum lately due to work.

I like the Sub for it's simple, clean and utilitarian purposes.  It's basically designed as a tool watch.

There are other brands of vintage watches which I like but like most, budget constraints would mean exploring other great watch brands would need some more time and investments in the future.

Great to see the love for other Rolex vintages here and have seen quite a few good ones on the forum too.

Wish you all well and have a great weekend.
