EURO 2012
« on: May 22, 2012, 08:40:07 AM »
The European Cup will start in 2 weeks time.

Lets share our expectation of your favourite team(s) here.

I think this time Spain will win again. But strong showing by the German team does not rule them out as the leading contender.

Puyol and David Villa are injured for Spain but they still have a really strong team.

I have been supporting England all my life, though I am not expecting much from them. No Rooney for the first 2 games.
Wonder if Roy Hodgson would field Andy Carroll up front ?

only 3 players played in the champs league final. Cahill, Cole, Lampard. i doubt it would have any effect on the England team

I am hoping to see Balotelli play well for Italia for his own sake.

Ya, me too. The 2 teams I supported donkey years ago were Italy & England. Two different league, one playing defensive football (mostly) and one has the (most, IMO) exciting football league in the EPL.
But this time around, Italy will be represented by a young team. I don't expect much from them, maybe in another 3-5 years from now.
England - always the "mishits" team in any tournament. They may boast to have the most exciting league in the world, but to make the English players to gel like a team is like puttiung a square peg in a round hole. Hope Roy Hodgson would solve this puzzling thing called the English football team. I think Rooney and Andy Carroll will be fielded up front, Rooney playing deeper in front of the midfielders and Carroll as the main Center Forward.

Fat chance!(Even though I support England)
Di Matteo used the right tactical play against Barcelona and B Munich. Furthermore Chelsea is not represented by the majority of the English players (unlike ManU).

With Balotelli in the Italian team, I hope he does not act like a "volcano" like when he plays for ManC.

Euro 2012 - 2 more Days!!

Some teams already checked into Poland and Ukraine.
England team? Many English players on crock list, dunno they can last till the next round or not? Also, a centerback for the last half decade was overlooked for another player who had just played for England a mere 2 minutes only.

Interesting formation by the Spaniards...no real striker for almost an hour..using Cesc as a false no 9.... ...supported by 5 midfielders!!..but then...to his credit..he did score...

Later, when they changed things and include a proper winger (NAvas) and proper striker (Torres), they looked more threatening but Torres missed them....

it will be interesting to see if Del Bosque sticked to the all midfielder type of attack or start using a proper striker in the next match....

It has been an interesting 4 Days of Euro Cup actions!

1) The Dutch was humbled by the Danes.
2) The World Champion, was held to a Draw by scandal-hit Italy.
With the 5-man midfielders, Spain retains the possession majority of the time, but no bite in attack. With wingers and a striker, they looks more menacing but was hampered by Torres' poor finishings.
3) England Drew with France.
A good start for RH and his English boys despite losing out some major players due to injury.

No worries.
Maybe the German will be "upsetted" by the players of a nation on the brink of bankruptcy.
