The Guilia were used by PDRM then the Berlinettas in late 60's/70s..
I think the Berlinetta's were sleeker..
However my outright favourite was the GTV and the Spider although they were rust buckets... you had to Tuff Kote it or the doors would literally fall off..
I drove the Sprint Veloce 1.7 Cloverleaf & 146Ti for quite a number of years in the 80/early 90's. Couldn't afford the Spider then...
However as age caught up, decided not to spend 2 weekends a month at the Alfa specialist garage, tuning/re-jetting the twin Webbers each time after a hard red-lining run or for the injection models, re-setting the tuning by onboard computers, sending in the soft alloy rims which got dented so easily when hitting our KL pot-holed roads, changing timing belts at 10,000k intervals..using expensive Selenia oils..
You just needed to treat Alfas with TLC with pre-scheduled maintenance or they'd break down on you unexpectedly...no doubt their engine growls were superb...esp the boxers or even if you had the later injection versions; Squadra re-chipped and installed the Novitec exhausts...
Current ride for last 4 yrs is a German.. more powerful than a 156, excellent handling in the wet with ESP ,EBC electronic gizmos/torque diff, visits workshop only twice a year for the 15,000km service intervals, not a single mechanical/electronic failure for last 4 yrs......lord of the rings...maybe too dependable, predictable hence boring...but at least doesn't take up increasingly precious time on your weekends at workshops anymore..
