Event report: Peter Speake-Marin private dinner
« on: December 15, 2011, 04:28:31 PM »
On the 8th of December 2011 Khronos which is the dealer for Speake-Marin watches in Malaysia invited collectors and their customers to a private dinner held at Gonbei San in Starhill Gallery.

This event is also to officially launch PSM's latest creation The Piccadilly Spirit Pioneer which is a limited edition of 68 pieces world wide.
News are that the piece in Khronos is one of the last ones available and the rest are already sold :o

Before the dinner me and CK77 went to the boutique to check out a very unique piece from HAUTLENCE, the HL2.0 watch.
Just looking at the time change is mesmerizing :o, such an engineering achievement and the power needed to pull the "chain" at each hour.

Venue for the night.

The setup and display.

What we are all here for tonight.

Comparing to my enamel dial version. Although the Spirit Pioneer looks smaller because of the dial design the case is actually of the same size.

Close-up

Comparing caseback

Look to one side and seeing the prep for dinner

The master himself explaining what goes into the making of my very own watch.

Talks about how to regulate the watch as well when i told him about my wearing habits and accuracy observation

This is when another MWF member Bruce dropped by and voila there is another PSM owner on the forum :Dancing_banana:

Comparing his to mine. His has a engraved white gold dial i believe and has a 42mm case

During dinner a friendly neighbor was wearing a Romain Jerome gold case chrono

Frank Low who is the MD of Khronos gives the opening speech

Everyone is all ears

Menu for the night

Now is Peter's turn to welcome the guest and speaks about his philosophy in watch making and his approach to his style of watchmaking

With that we end with a pic with the man himself, to those who want to ask what watch was Peter wearing? I say lookout for BASEL 2012!

Its occasions like this that i like independent brands.
I KNOW who made my watch (either in its entirety or partly), i get to speak to the person and understand what was their thought process and inspiration for doing what he did.
I feel a more direct connection to my watch and to the brand.
From the conversation you see that he is passionate about his work and his art, everything he does to the movement and design is to make it stronger and last longer.

When i voiced out how the strap didnt fit my wrist no matter how i tried and even after months of breaking in the leather, Peter even graciously told me to go back to the dealer, have my wrist measured and a custom strap would be made for me and was his personal gift to me.
Now THATS customer service!

Now time to save up for one of his in-house designed hand wind pieces. :Laughing_on_floor:
