Just to share some photo of my short trip to Nanning
« on: August 28, 2011, 08:50:20 PM »
Day 1

Reach there quite late…. By the time my fren brought me to restaurant, most dishes cant b ordered!
I actually still recovering from a food poisoning the day before, but I jus cant resist with these

I like the scallop king a lot… sweet, the glass noodle adsorbed the sweet juice from scallop also very yummy!

Also love this big clamp + winter melon soup

Day 2

Business day, quick lunch in frens company owned restaurant, its good but jus too shy to take photo.

While back to hotel rest, tried the big mooncake in the hotel….. char siew 5 nuts

Dinner, fren bought us to a vegetarian shop despite some1 hinted he want pork! Lol…

Yam ball…. Spicy, but love the chewy texture

This is great, very presentable as well

So as this

Day 3 – leisure day

Yum cha yak bao
I love guang zhou dim sum sifu, all dim sum freshly made, no need to serve with sweet n chili sauce

My favorite, har gao

Visiting my fren jus purchased condo

Next, up hill makan angin

Lunch time – riverside fresh water fish restaurant

Guess what juice they serve? Its sweet corn….  Preparing to lower my blood pressure!

This small fish is extinct in peninsular Malaysia I guess…. I caught this once when I’m small. The stomach is yellow, it has a thin layer of orange fat in the stomach that’s bring a unique flavor to  this fish. Small but great, steamed in plum sauce bit wasted to me….

Wild caught catfish…. Crunchy meat! Yummy

Maybe after vege dinner the night b4, my boss cant resist this knuckle cook with the sour shan jar, the sourness of the san jar fruit sauce really make this oily knucle so light…. Great combination, remind me of the double plum knuckle in hongkong home cook I ate last time…

Chili tree leave…. In soup! Now only I know it taste so good

The great looking of this pumpkin with 3 wonders… actually taste good!

This is simple yet good. I will recommend this to my mum. The jit gua steam with fried garlic…

Whats this? Guess….. my second taste of pucuk keladi
1st time in Kelantan, cook in salted fish curry
This one fermented naturally before pan fry…. Sour…. I dun like!

After the super heavy lunch, while others back to hotel n rest, I walked 2 hours around the hotel

Dinner, fren bought us to this yunnanese run restaurant which famous for the wild mushroom

Great ID, great atmosphere….

Cold small plates… all very strong taste…  very good appetizer though

We were served free for this Yunnan moon cake…. Weird taste but not bad!

Love these small fish… ate 3! No bone… the meat is so sweet, jus little too oily, otherwise perfect!

This kao yok, the belly meat cook in bowl with yam is famous Cantonese dish, as good as my mum made!

Grilled duck and char siew, another Cantonese dishes. Very well cooked

Mok yee fried in vinegar… hmm…

The restaurant most famous dish, the soup serve 2 times actually

1st time serve before meal….

Then add the famous ‘goat stomach’  + several types of mushroom in it and serve again….

But do u guys know what make this herb soup so great…. Look at the soup again…. Did u notice anything in it?

Look at this again

Cant see

Hehe…. GUB GUAI

+

Tortoise

For those who use to eat Chinese food, these are normal ingredient if I’m not wrong, most Cantonese chef will add the lizard in their forever boiling stock!

Day 4 Good bye

the city in green

Nice pics of food and the surrounding, Chrisyen. Thanks for sharing.

Until the very last few pictures, made me felt cheesy (like David said "then I lost my appetite...not for everyone to stomach, I think") and sick. I guess I am not be made by sterner stuff.

Chrisyen: I really solute you for being able to seeing it (ie. the cicak) and then putting the soup in the mouth and swallowing it thereafter. I hope there was no chewing, if you say so, i will feel very uneasy  :P

I had a similar experience once.

Until my friend unveil the main ingredient. BAT !!!

Nothing wrong with eating those things as they are cooked and not poisonous. If they are alive then a bit too 'extreme'.
