Bidong Island
« on: July 30, 2011, 09:23:04 AM »
I participated in a coral reef survey organized by a NGO called Reefcheck last weekend at Bidong Island. The island was home to the Vietnamese refugees back in the late 70’s and the 80’s. It became a deserted island after the refugees left and it was off limit to the public for a good 8 years or so...that somehow allows the corals to re-grow and was probably the reason why its coral reefs are in such a pristine condition with abundant marine life compared to the other popular resort islands on the east coast. There are rumors that it will be developed...if it does, it will be bad news for the surrounding reefs. Posted some of the underwater photos I took during the trip to share the beauty of Bidong Island.

Huge table corals are everywhere

Thanks for the kind words.

ckng515, Bidong is located between Redang and mainland.

Zitan, there seems to be quite a number of jellyfish around this time.

Besview, you dive? I learn a few tips from pro, happy to share.

Errr....They dump it into the Sea to build artificial reef, how they do it..."Just Dump"  :Laughing_on_floor:
