Enkidu, welcome to the GS anti-mag club  :Jumping:
I find the angular case appealing. Given its thickness, how does it wear? The comfort level of my SBGX089 is very good, but that is because it is much thinner. Bring it to the next GTG.

Yes, I am sure the quartz GS's wear comfortably. As you say, the SBGR079 is rather thick and it's a heavy watch. Unlike my 40mm Inge, it does not hug around your wrist. But if you size the bracelet properly, it should be good for daily wear. In my case, I removed one large link and 2 smaller links....

Enkidu is the expert on all things Seiko/GS even from wayback 1960s.
There are a few other hidden Seiko/GS masters here in MWF
I am familiar only with the newer Prospex/Ananta/GS from 1990s..

Plse do not call me master...my hair will stand up..
Altho u have not met me, you can ask David, as we both go back a long way from photography days..

Personal taste and preferences evolve over years, hopefully not 1 full circle otherwise it means we haven't learnt a single thing.

Please share with us - the crown screw lock / non screw lock.

Tell us your experience on daily wind-up / power reserve etc...

Thanks
dc

Another excuse to post a wrist shot. Now its in the dark - as a flieger, you got to know the time in a darkened plane!

The lume on the IWC Vintage pilot hand wind is outstanding. The above picture was taken several minutes after walking in the bright sun and in a darkened room. I'd rate the lume on the watch right up there with the Seiko Monster lume (which is pretty fantastic to start with).

As for your questions:
1) Please share with us - the crown screw lock / non screw lock.
There is no screw lock on the crown. Its a pilot's watch (Flieger) not a diver. You can wind the watch without unscrewing anything much like Omega Speedmaster professional.

2) Tell us your experience on daily wind-up / power reserve etc...
Not much to say. I haven't allowed it to wind down... It's still a daily wearer. Couldn't be happier with it. Very accurate as far as I can tell during the past week, less than a few seconds fast per day compared to PC time.

A hefty masculine and tool like watch from that perspective, thanks for the pics.
Perhaps, you may also consider Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 15000 gauss with a fully anti magnetic movement instead of soft iron cage design, to complement your growing anti-mag collection.

STT1987 - Thanks for sharing.

At least its not like the Rolex 6694 (Hand wind) where you need to un screw / lock the crown for a daily wind up.

Your IWC looks great on wrist.

Cheers

I am almost a recovered watchaholic, but last checked shows only 70% recovered. How?

Peter,
We nearly made it a pair, didn't we ? Too many nice watches too little money..
I had to choose the SBGW047 between the 2 but its always once you get one, you miss getting the other...
BTW both the SBGR081/SBGW047 have the same beautiful side polished/centre brushed hour/minute hands...just lovely when the light falls on it..
To be accurate all GS sparkle in the light..
