Yangon June11
« on: June 13, 2011, 10:45:48 AM »
this session is surpprisingly quiet after school holiday.... let me post some quick photo here about the city.... of GOLD

day 1
5pm from malaysia with airasia.... sorry, i'm not shooting the stewardess... never done so and wont do it in future as well....
2 hour 45 mins.... - 1 1/2 hour slow (gmt +6.5 at Yangon), so arrived around 7pm.

thnx for our fren there, get us through a faster lane

the airport is quite new, with very modern outlook.... look small....
god, no roaming..... NO SERVICE. our fren they said no way u can get international roaming there....  :Blue:

i notice the city is very clean and infra is not bad.... wide road, not so jam..... on the way to Hotel

i quite like the design of the hotel entrance design.... the 4 faces buddha is on top

more photo taken there

some 1 praying tiger here in the hotel...

after putting down our luggage we proceed to a nearby restaurant for dinner here

too shy to take photo of the dishes.... since 1st time meeting the officer...
fish, pork, chicken..... singaporean owned restaurant, singapore chef.... typical chinese cooking... nothiing to shout as well

but the appetizer is good.... seaweed marinated with garlic and chili... fish sauce???

but.... no wifi. lucky the officer who hosted the dinner found i looking for internet, so he use his android phone as wifi router....
at least i can use whatspp to sms my wife.... that i'm safe!

then we head back to hotel for rest. the hotel is nice n clean, love the very asian design.... looks relaxing.... very thai (owner must be thai)
but poor thing is no free internet in the room. my floor the paid wifi is not available.....  :Blue:

so i hv to hang around the lobby lounge for drinks 5-11pm for the next few days, to get a complimentary wifi.

i seldom drink beer, otherwise this will be a good choice...

day 2
we were invited to have breakfast at our fren new house... along the way, i found

yeap, no public phone booth but this. you pay them to make a phone call....
i was told to get a line here is expensive, very expensive..... just recently lower to rm2k++ (last time more than rm10k++)
let see Hua Wei can improve this since there r there now...

our fren house jus completed.... he has not move in actually....

this is heavenly good.... curry mee..... sweet!

the local noodle, sprinkle the raw chopped cabbage, chopped raw long bean, fried to crunchy noodle, chili paste, mint leave, pour the pork curry soap n lastly squeze the lemon juice on top.... yummy

the desserts.... wow the mango is so sweet.... and tasty

this is someting local like to eat during the meal.... weird taste but accetable to me! some baked beans n vege into oil with herbs.....

after that we drop some 1 to the gem market

hundreds of shops and stalls selling the jades, precious stone (ruby, sapphire, topaz.... ), gold, oil painting, handy craft, 'tan xiang' wood craft, etc
here u can find a usd1 dollar jade rings to usd5000 rings to million dollar jades at all kind of form

i found this

but sadly, no time to ask around and find out the watches in detail....

hope i can visit to this again very soon....

after series business, meetings, visiting some officers.... lunch time. GOLDEN DUCK restaurant near the river port, was told Yangon ppl love duck!

not bad, the kangkong here is so crunchy. steam seabass again.... (same dish as day1 dinner)

i found alot of ppl, especially female applied some yellowish powder on their face... after i ask around,

its tree trunk... the outer skin! its cooling and good for the skin woh.... no pimples!!!

dinner at WHITE RICE Restaurant

got wifi.... finally some place with free wifi..... good food also!!! also walking distance from hotel... many restaurant surrounding the same lake opposite the hotel

many young young couple pak to here....

DAY 3
going round to see some places, we went to see the fishing port.... heard thousand tonnes of freshwater river fish trading here....
i was stunned....  :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

so many kind of fish here.... and all are BIG BIG  one... patin, lei yu, bak sou gong.....

then we were attracted by the freshwater lobster, dai tou ha

so we bought some....

and some 1 saw we bought that, they offer us this tiger prawn....

from the same river? not from he sea ??? but they try to slaughter us....
so we didnt buy this, but if i travel my own i'm sure i will go round n search another guy who can sell me cheaper!!!
bcoz its huge!!!

just udang gala is not enough, even though its big, so we went to buy a big fish also...

3kg ++ lei yu? or wan yu?  ??? ??? ??? dunno what fish is this, but look fresh and cheap, so we just grab it...

after more visits....

we head to restaurant that cook us the day 1 dinner, they can cook for us our udang gala n fish.... :Dancing_banana: :Dancing_banana: :Dancing_banana:

hong siu fish tail.... surpprisingly not much of bones.....

qing steam fish head.... this is really really good!!! the skin is absolutely perfect!

dai tou ha steam with garlic..... much better than the pond farm one in malaysia... n u can taste the freshness
if u like prawn head....

i also like the long crunchy bean sprout here.... fried with salted fish!

after that some leisure time, our fren bring us to this temple on a river island

was told we can find plenty of patin fish around.... but the temple owner said the fish gone for breeding these few days.... so cant see any
we must be fated to be with the buddha, heavy rain force us stay....

sunset.... time to bring my damasko to see some gold....

heavy downpour again.... i guess buddha love damasko.... dun want to let it go

dinner.... was hosted by the officer in this peking duck restaurant

it is authentic peking duck from BEIJING famous restaurant, quan ju de
this branch is run by its relative who settel here in Yangon!!!

DAY 4

wake up at 5am.... follow my boss and the officer to play golf....  :Blue: :Blue: :Blue: :Blue: :Blue: :Blue: :Blue: :Blue: :Blue:
so sleepy..... worst is the golf course is half complete... no other entertainment beside golfing and the coffee house.
no massage, no games.... nothing? so i sit for 5 hours ++ waiting them to play 18 holes in the coffee house..... TNS &&(&*%&$^^$%
finally see some malaysian there.... those who spending our country oil n gas resources playing there....

then we rush back for check out and hv our late lunch at

tallest building in town?

food are not good

the local favorite pork noodle is too sweet, added too much sugar... but pork mo than noodles.....

times to go back.... thanks mr driver

(the car is super expensive in Myanmar, this 10 yrs old van is around RM120k, any new japanese/korea made more than rm600k, those tycoon favorite there, toyota land cruiser is selling at rm 1mil ++ )

and here you pay cash to buy things.... even car and house.... no loan

good bye YANGON

i gonna miss the mango, pineapple and the fresh water fishes...

more photo during Sep trip

more food

the appetizer

great organic fruit rice wine..... great taste, sweet....

and if u guys got chance to go Yangon.... makesure u visit the fresh water fishing port
the fresh water river here is really amazing.... the so many fish and all big big one
so this trip we revisited the port to buy fish again....

look at the fish.... traders selling fish everywhere here....

just compare the size of the fish to the man....

or u compare these 'patin' with my pam

Besides that, to meet a minister, i travel up north... to Nay Py Taw
its a new City, a administration City, just like Putrajaya, where all the federal government office held.
I still wonder why they choose to put develop this new city so far away from Yangon

travel by road to this city, a toll road constructed by a Chinese contractor.... took us 5 hours....
the highway is not as good as PLUS here, full concrete surface! not much landscape, not much traffic....
only 1 R&R along the way (200miles from Yangon)

Nay Py Taw
a whole new city, all with concrete road..... 3-5 lane each way!
buildings all far far apart.... so its like ghost town during non peak hours....
only during the Jade Expo, 3 times a yr it is crowded. GEM is big business here, many many hotel just built for this expo

we stay at this

resort style hotel...

what impressed me not the garden like landscape

but the huge CICAK

sorry, i should hv shoot it earlier to capture the normal cicak beside it....
a normal cicak length is only the tail length of this giant cicak... i found 2 giant cicak here...
there r tales bout this cicak, it bite some1 and cure its AIDS.... so som1 is paying huge money to get this...
but i scared... and ran away from

with little time, we visited the golden pagoda once again.... in day time this round!

the biggest diamond on top weight at 76 carat

thnx for viewing.... a wrist shot for last
