u sure? i'm pretty i cant take it now

i did that > 15 yrs ago.... b4 the expedition, i jog 1 hour 30 mins up and down hill
then work out muscle and at stairs for another 30 mins
for 3 mths..... rain or sunny day.....

for the trip, i carry 15-18kg through out
- clothes
- gear
- tent
- food
- water
- utensil

7 days from cameron highland to Hulu Kinta Ipoh.... i cant remember the distance.... about 50++ km straight distance from point to point overall if i remember correctly....

worst experience is day 3 -
rain started right after lunch around 2pm .... so no way to cook.... basically no water no hot food, wet, cold, dark...
we missed the branch/check point to camp site as planned.... so walk till 12am++ till few members mentally down!
i cant remembered how many times i fell..... i can only remember
- even i hold the rattan thorn also no feel after a second or 2
- the brandy i brought - have no effect before gone pass my throat....
- i depend solely on glucose i brought along....
- my frens - some crying, some shouting, some scolded the guide, some blaming us to invite them, some fever...
- i hurt my toe... till infected the next day.... i cut with my knife to let go the yellow nana on day 7 after the pachak refused to suck it for me....

Sound like hero now...
I actually feeling pain for few months after that when I climb stairs
Damage is done on day 6.... Going down hill from gunung korbu (second highest in peninsular just 4 m lower than tahan) 20++m to 8++m... So it's 1200m down in half day...
Knee feel shake right after that....

Yeah... downhill is where the damage is worst...
Uphill is tiring, most probably sore hips and legs... but downhill... the pressure on the muscle joint and ligament...
For mount kinabalu... I normally run down... slow or fast, it's gonna hurt anyway... mind as well get it over with... in the least possible time...

No need special training.
Just a few rounds around the "taman" or neighbour park will do.

always wanted to climb that mountain, no idea how to get there and no kaki as well
No idea? Just take a flight to Kota Kinabalu (if you are from elsewhere). Then goto Kinabalu Park where all the registration process is done. Next day hike up the gunung till half way point at Laban Rata. Then next morning (2-2.30am), hike up some more to 4,095mabove sea level (ASL).

IMO, going down hill is the most taxing one. Going uphill is only half the battle as the other half is going down hill. Uphill, your thigh muscle will feel tight because of the climb. Down hill, your knee and ankle is the two most affected areas. I tried running down on my first climb. Hurt my legs and need treatment in KK. On my second climb, I just walk down, no problem on my feet.

Chris, go update the mount kinabalu climb thread... if you can tackle Gunung Tahan, Mount Kinabalu is like a walk in the park for you.

True, Mount K is a ball in the park compared to Tahan, Korbu and the rest of G7 in the peninsular.
That is because Mt K requires waliking (like walk up and down the stairs only if using Timpohon-Summit-Timpohon route). Mount Tahan is a more "technical" climb. If you did Tahan-Korbu then it is known as trans Titiwangsa route. You get to maybe conquer 3 or 4 of the G7 peak at one go, but it is physically and mentally taxing. You will need to be super fit for this trek. But climbing Mt K requires one to be physically good, not super fit.(But if super fit, can join in the Mt K Run- up and down the peak in a few hours)
