« on: July 05, 2022, 08:07:37 PM »
As per the title, is Chrono24 an ok platform to purchase from? Please let me know your experiences with this platform. Am about to pull the trigger on a watch.

Never purchased from there but i think if you follow the adage of "buying the seller", it should be fine. Do factor in taxes and duties when you make your purchase decision.

Bought my rolex off there. Can be trustable if you strictly go for Japanese shops (Not private) as they tend to under describe the condition. (Or over describe even the smallest scratches, for a better perspective)

Custom takes 5% on selling price too. Took about a week to reach me if i dont remember wrongly.

was this recently or few years ago before the prices went silly?

Dec 2021, midway when the prices went parabolic. Saw a good deal there where MY prices were even higher, and jumped the gun.

The watch is now back to my original investment now though

I purchased a couple of my Seikos from Japanese dealers on C24. No issues thus far.

I feel like prices from Chrono24 are a way too high. Selection is good, but better wait for the piece you want to appear in your local community. Let's not get started on limited pieces there.

Just to update my purchase went super smooth thru chrono24. Bought from a Japanese dealer. Watch looks to be in excellent condition literally BNIB. Now checking its performance.

I bought a quartz Grand Seiko and a Omega Speedmaster Racing via Chrono 24, both in this year (2022) from Japanese dealer. Both transactions went thru smoothly and watches received in good condition without any issue.

Delivery normally takes around 1-2 weeks included dealer preparation, postage and custom clearance. For both purchases, I were charged 5% duty fees (of the total declared value) during custom clearance.

Believe me, you might be able to get some good deals from Chrono 24 if you are carefully looking for it. The Chrono 24 apps also allow us to browse watches that we are interested and we can save it as favourite for monitoring purpose.

My advice is going for Japanese dealer, as they are more trustworthy and weak Japanese Yen currency certainly leads to some greater offer price.

Good luck in your watch hunting!

I fully agree. This is my third purchase from Japanese dealers (non private ) and have not had any issues so far. They are a amazing to deal with. Watches always come as per advertised or better.

I just realised that my link isn’t working. Trying again. Also anyone know how to get the picture to show on the forum instead of a link? I can do it on my computer but can’t seem to do it from the Flickr mobile app.

The prices are marked up to cover the high commissions charged by the platform. I never bought any watches there when I can get them locally.

Brought 3 watches,
1 GS SBGR311 and 2 Omegas at Chrono24.
so far quite good and happy with experience.

abit tedious is when send over to Malaysia,
i need to proceed to poslaju in PJ, show the counter the invoice and payment proof.
then pay the import tax in cash before i can collect my parcel.
i thought it suppose to be send over right to my doorstep.

Hmm I think this is a function of the courier option that the seller uses. Some use services like DHL, Fedex, which would do the entire process end to end as well as pay the necessary taxes upfront on our behalf. We just need to schedule delivery of the goods and settle the final bill with their representative upon receipt of goods.

I've also had instances (not just with wrist watches) where I had to actually go to the customs office to get my stuff and pay the tax/duty whatnot. These were usually delivered via standard post (USPS, EMS etc.), took a long while, and were considerably delayed because when the customs receives the item, they take their own sweet time getting back to us to inform about it. Tedious, sure, but not without its merits - those instances I could actually chat with the officer on the spot and try to talk my way into a discount. DIY n save a few bucks, or automate and save the time and hassle.

My purchase with Chrono24 is fine.
New watch with good price tag.
Be sure using trusted checkout service provided by Chrono24 so that you can get refund if there is a dispute. Delivery via Fedex / DHL with tracking no., both provide custom clearance service with small charges, custom will charge 5% SST on your watch.

Are the duties taxed just on the prices of the watch or total package including delivery charges? And are you charged additional service fees by the courier services?
