The watch had a difficult birth, coming in hot at the heels of the successful Legend Diver. After its first unveiling at Basel 2010, the watch received many negative comments. In fact some opinions on the watch were very strong, even with some suggesting they write in to Longines. The watch it based on the original Longines WWW, which itself is prone to controversy. The original is also known as the 'Greenlander' but questions have been raised if it did go to Greenland as part of the equipment of the British team to Greenland.
Anyway, after the first comments came in, Longines 'pulled' the watch from its website, but put it up again much later. Comments against the watch include the addition of the date complication, the 'small' sub-second dial, the small crown, the short hands and the list goes on. Additionally for the asking price, one could get the original (but not anymore). Many were against the use of the 'broad arrow' on the dial.
There was also the rumour that Longines used photographs of the original in its promotional brochure without giving credit to the owner of the watch or that the photographs were 'borrowed' from the owner.
It is currently rumoured that the production of the watch has slowed down to a trickle, but that remains a rumour.
