while many do not agree with this article, I must say the author got so many points correct.
myself only find the blue Pelagos interesting because I am drawn to blue, the watch is big but titanium makes it lighter, the bracelet is the only one without the annoying rivets and comes with that innovative clasp, lume is nice (bezel has lume too) and it has a date. it's a great beater watch indeed.
now if only they made the chronos like they did before, the Tiger (Prince Date) chrono....
While I somewhat agree with this article. I also have to say that there are many merits to this watch. Watches are boring for a reason. And that reason is what makes it stand the test of time. When a dive watch is mentioned, the first watch that usually comes to mind is a Rolex submariner. The most copied (2nd most copied, I think the datejust is the most copied) and the most boring of all sports watches. Black and steel…how boring can that be? It’s so boring that Rolex had to start introducing a touch of colour to the watch to give it some variety. (1680 red, 16610LV, 116610LV, 126610LV).

I’m a boring person, so I’ll stick to boring watches.
Now back to the Black Bay…I don’t think it’s boring.

In fact it’s soooooo different compared to the submariner. It’s got a red triangle, gilt hands and minute markers.
The bracelet does not taper as much as the submariner

And hey…it’s true to its original design of having “rivets”

And the clasp is comfortable too…
I also like the slightly domed crystal. And the play of light when it’s in the sun.

I have a small six and a half inch wrist. So this watch really wears well and slips under the cuff of my shirts.

I wear everything from a 37mm watch to a 44mm watch.

That said, I think that the black bay 58 sits perfectly in the middle. A comfortable, easy to wear and best of all, no date watch. Even if I don’t wear it for a while, I just have to wind it up, set the time and go…I’m leaning towards smaller, time only watches these days. So to each his own. Some may find this watch boring, so be it…everyone is entitled to their own opinions. No wrongs and no rights here. Everyone has a certain preference at a certain point in their watch loving timelines. This is my timeline, my preference at this present moment. You have to find out what is yours through trial and error.
Most importantly, enjoy your journey…make lots of like minded, watch loving friends along the way. And share your journey so that we may all appreciate how similar or how different our paths can be.
