Rite of Passage
« on: June 12, 2015, 07:47:48 AM »
I am a newbie on this wonderful journey of watch collection.  I have accumulated a very small and humble collection consisting of dress, dive, racing and beater watches.

Recently, I was told that a collection is “incomplete” without a vintage watch in it.  Having a vintage watch is like a Rite of Passage for all watch collectors. I was even given a peek into the world of vintage watches, and since that moment I developed a thing for vintage watches.

And who else better to share and seek advice from other that all the Sifu in MWF. I am wondering, do you all agree with this “Rite of Passage” thing? Please share story of how you discover and fall-in-love with vintage watches.

I personally don't agree with this Rite of Passage idea.

A watch collection is something unique to each watch collector.

However, on vintage watches, I am rather interested in Seiko Auto Chronos and certain daydates.. when I saw some of the members posting theirs here.

collecting watches is individual syiok sendiri hobby
just like collecting any other thing

you are collecting wide range of watches
some people just concentrating in
single purpose, ie dive
1 brand
single color dial
1 model but all generation
etc

i have seen people with all version of omega speedmaster
pre moon, mk1, mk2....... mk5, modern speedmaster professional and all limited edition...

so really depends on what you want, what you like... not others

Not sure on a rite of passage watch. Vintage watches have their charm.... But my preference is to have accurate time. If the vintage watch hasn't been well taken care of, with servicing, older wathches needing lubrication and all, it's rather hard to purchase the right vintage watch.
