A lot can change by the time he's 18 so it really should depend on what you can envision him proudly wearing when he eventually reaches that age. I think your son is so lucky to have a dad as generous as you.

That being said, if he's going to grow up to be a big lad, the sea dweller might be a better fit. If he's a little more expressive the batman would be spot on. Maybe he loves the simplicity of the submariner bezel? Too many factors at this moment.

My 2 shillings worth

If he don't like, i can wear. LOL

It is hard to guess his taste when he reaches 18.

To be save, you may wanna avoid the Hulk.  Black is neutral but green, hmmm if you really go for it, make sure you bring him up to like green.    :Laughing_on_floor:

To each his own..never found the hulk appealing. But I'm sure so many hulk advocates would say otherwise

The result:

116710BLNR - 6
116710 LN - 2
116610 LV - 6
116610 LN - 3

So, its either 116710 BLNR or 116610 LV. Gonna let his mother to choose between these 2.

Why not give him one of your watches? That would be surely much more meaningful than a mere mass produced commodity item like a new Rolex?

Yeah, I also think it would make more sense to give him one of your timepieces, rather than a 16-year old NOS Rolex. Personally, I'd prefer to have received a watch that had spent a lot of time with my father, rather than an "old" watch that has no history.

Also, a lot can happen in 16 years. Maybe in the future, people don't wear mechanical wristwatches anymore.

Mechanical timepieces will forever be worn by people....

During the quartz revolution, many people said that it was the end of mechanical timepieces. But look at the world now, or nearer in this forum, most if not all the watches posted here are mechanical watches.
Seiko fan.....

Think silverstan has in mind a Rolex so let's give him that support :)

So many 'maybes' and 'what ifs' to even debate. Another pandora's box waiting to happen.

My point of view, mechanical is still mechanical, no matter how advance the technology will be. I don't think it will happen in 16 years that no one going to wear mechanical watch anymore.
I have 1 can pass down in my mind, which is my 5054R. But that just not suitable for kid. That's why plan to get 1 and keep for him. By his 18, give him as birthday present, it's still from my collection anyway, but with unworn condition only.  ;D
