BR01-92 Compass RoseGold & Carbon
« on: September 15, 2014, 07:48:43 PM »
Hello Gentlemen,
Here is a little review of the new addition to my collection.
Collection now fully devoted to the BR01 and its variations "Materials".

Make a quick flashback story to situate the genesis of this sextet ...

2009: First BR01. It is a SS chronograph and at the time I selected a white dial, convinced of its versatility and ease to accept various bracelets.

In parallel, the "strap-madness" reached me and few pieces arrive: leather, alligator, stingray, canvas, accompanied OEM buckles (because it's well known, I am a big slacker who does not have two minutes to swap the buckle ... Mr. Green).

2010: Carbon fiber called me. It's a 92 from the first series, which joins the 94 WD.

2012: It is the turn of the ceramic. The "glossy" shell of the 92 and its unique style lands on my wrist. The "01 in a tuxedo" as I call it in my review, years ago...

2013: I'm lucky to get a beautiful titanium chrono. It will be a "Pro" case, with its very specific edges and a gray dial to match perfectly with the captivating color of the case.

2014 : I miss PVD since the start of the 97 Commando and 96 Orange ... The second series of Flight Instruments has been out for a few months, I throw my heart on a 92 Heading Indicator : the instrument by excellence, and my first 01 with a disc-based movement.

There is one empty space in the "F.I box". I ogle on a RG for many years, but easier said than done ... Nearby rates 10k, it makes the task more difficult.
However, after several months of negotiations with Rowan, I finally won the RoseGold Grail. It will be a Compass, certainly one of the finest achievements in this 46mm material.

First and foremost, what catches the eye instantly on this model is the 18k pink gold bezel...
"Guillochage" engraving is simply amazing. The logo perfectly finds its place in the middle of this piece, recalling the famous compass which this model is inspired.

The edges are polished to give extra softness and contrast:

In the lower part, the bezel is satin for a perfect balance with matt black screws …

The rest of the case is covered with black PVD steel, reinforcing even more the contrast with the bezel and the balance with the dial.

The crown is black also confused with the box. A gold crown would be unwelcome imho

A black alligator strap is mounted on this model, ended by a solid pink gold buckle.
9.1 grams just for it!

Let's talk about comfort ... This 01 weighs 160 grams, one of the heavier 92. This is reasonable and like all 01-92, its contained thickness makes it very comfortable, if you have the good wrist size of course!

Reading the time is easy. No small second unlike her sister, the HI.
A vertical line at noon serves as a reference. The first disk (outside) gives hours. The inner disc gives the minutes.
Obviously these discs rotate clockwise. The rest is intuitive, just follow the reference from the top down (11:18 on the photo above).

Compass is the only BR which adopts a splitted sapphire. Another feature, the bottom is smoked, exposing the bottom of the discs but not too much.

On the caseback, it's consistent with the "Aviation" spirit. This nameplate remains the hallmark of 01/03. It gives the watch informations: serial number, name, materials used, whether it's limited or not, and the famous "Do not unscrew" that Gudzz love so much!

Let's finish with a traditional wristshot, willfully with a casual outfit, to break the "bling" touch.

Needless to say how I love this watch, which is definitely mesmerizing, original and incredibly sexy. It conveniently close my BR01 collection and epitomizes the expertise of Bell & Ross.
Noble and high-tech materials are integral part of the spirit of the BR01.

Thank you for reading!
