Sorry to keep you guys waiting. here comes the brief review of the A. Lange & Sohne Langematik Perpetual
Technical specificationsSize : 38.5mm
Thickness : 10.2mm ( which I think is a real feat with perpetual calender complications.
Case : Platinum
Strap : Hand-sewn Crocodile skin
Functions : Perpetual Calendar. Of which is able to take into accounts the 29th of Feb in the leap year, and no adjustment in
date is needed until 1st Mar 2100. (how I wish to be alive by then to perform the feat of adjusting the 1 day by
myself)
Power reserve : 46 hours (moderate, considering the complications involved)
Water resistant : 30 m (Standard for dress watch, not impressive, but for God’s sake nobody will wear this watch to dive)
Calibre : L922.1 Sax-0-Mat with 21 carat gold and platinum rotor
The movement has 43 jewels & beats at 21,600 vph
"Sax" means Saxonia series,
"0" refers to the patented “0-reset” mechanism.
"Mat" means automatic winding
It is a bi-directional winding mechanism (adding complexity to achieve thin mechanism)
The gold rotor has an intricate crafting of word s "A. Lange & Sohne" as well as "Sax-0-Mat"
Unique featuresi) Patented large double window date display located at the top of the dial
ii) Patented "Zero Reset" seconds hand. Of which the seconds hand will jump to 0 everytime the crown is pulled for adjustment of
time, making accurate setting of time to the second.
iii) Rhodium colored solid silver dial with Rhodium plated Gold Roman Numeral Hour Markers, with super luminova materials.
The "Bling Bling" hour markers added rich textures to the dial especially when you view from the side
iv) Close examination of the dial would reveal the intricate and richness in design as it comes in “ layers” the primary layer contains
the Applied Roman Hour markers with slight recessed centre dial that holds the hour and minute hands. The next layer contains
the 3 sub dials for month, day and seconds hand, while the fourth layer for mini subdial for the leap year and moonphase
indicators. It looked balance & neat with despite such complicated displays.
v) Side case with sandwiched mat surface by two high gloss surface, adding good visual texture to the ultra- fine finishing.
vi) The watch comes with a solid winder, runs on battery that could be kept winding inside a safe. Could be adjusted with 9 winding
speed.
Significance of the Langematik Perpetual model i) 1st Perpetual Calender by Lange back in 2001
ii) A. Lange & Söhne claims that this is the first time in history that an automatic wristwatch with a perpetual calendar and
on "outsize"date that permits the different calendar displays and the moon phase display to be individually corrected with
separate recessed buttons, or advanced together with the main push button.
iii) I was surprised to find out that Langematik Perpetual offers unsurpassed convenience : no matter where the calendar
mechanism happens to be, the hour and minute hands can be advanced or retreated without jeopardizing the calendar
mechanism. This means that there’s no "red zone," as there is on certain other perpetual calendar watches, during which
resetting the hands is taboo. "Red zones" typically span a several-hour-long interval, usually from 10pm to 2 am. (Despite this, as
best practice I think I will still refrain from doing so)
Developmentsi) The main push-button at 10 0’clock was changed to recessed button from 2007 onwards by Lange, of which quite a few of Lange
lovers protested that it lost the “signature look” of the Lange range. I personally find that the original button comes handy when
you need to adjust for a few days, and looks iconic with the watch.
ii) First launch with a price of USD54,400, latest price is a whopping USD91,800 (MSRP for Malaysia is MYR294,000 - Platinum case
with platinum deployant buckle)
Latest model only equipped with pin buckle. This platinum deployant buckle, would cost MYR 25,000 new if bought separately
